George has convinced me to change my ways. I’m stubborn, but I cannot deny proof when it’s right in front of me.

I placed ONE of these supports. I don’t see any errors yet, I’ll speak to the clean up after it dries.

Supports automatically placed by PRUSA SL1 slicer.

After a lot of research, I noticed the EPAX X1, was down to $380. (with use of a $20 coupon on Amazon prime, free shipping). Compared to $280 for the photon, it seemed like a no-brainier. The thing I couldn't get over on the Photon, was the grub screw. As time goes by, they dig into the mating surface, and it's really hard to get them to do anything but follow the same position that they were in due to that indent.

I build my own FDM machines for production work becuase I can make them cheaper and better then a Prusa, but at this price point, you can't make a LCD machine. Same is true with a basic laser cutter. There a few open source laser engravers out there, but you can't build them better then a k40 for the price. Anyways, I'll stay subscribed to this page, but I just wanted to in a non "PC-vs-MAC" war sort of way give new buyers something to think about.

Unleash the Kitten!! ? Like I said before, printed with Photon, Hollowing in Meshmixer (much much more clean geometry than Chitubox), Supports on Prusa slicer, Slice in Chitubox, Cleaning in Validator (thanks Photonsters!!)

Very old work so its not perfect but printable as you can see from photos

Hello everyone, thanks for letting me in the group. I have many years of FDM printing and currently own 2 Prusa MK3s. I want to get into Resin printing, and the Photon seems ideal. Is it worth paying more for the S model? Also what do you guys use for washing and curing please?

The FAQ here is great! A few things it didn't cover, that if you can point me into the right direction would be great.

A.) Optimal part orientation? (Yes I know prusa slicer does this - and you can use that as part of your work flow - cool) - BUT what is it doing? I know there is more resolution on the z then the XY, so why is it tilting the part better? How does it know what is the best compromise?!?!? And how can I outsmart it?

B.) I'm new to SLA, so what kind of long term testing has there been with resins subject to the outdoor environment? Where can I read about that more?

Thanks!

(PS - I'm not spring chicken, I have 5 FDM machines, and work for Adafruit, so no need to treat me like a total newbie! )

Personal model, Carttonish version of catwoman printed on our Photon with AmeraLabs AMD-3 LED, 50 microns, 6 seconds. Hollowed in meshmixer, supports on Prusa slicer, sliced in chitubox 1.5 with AA on. Validator says that chitubox hollowed model was sh&(&/t same for supports missing a lot of overhangs, so the workflow we used was almost flawless.

Started dojng the weathering while I'm designing some more parts. Will want to redesign the canopy as well.
In meantime I have put in the light system on.

*Edit* Sorry for posting the wrong pre-paint pic. It’s fixed now.

So for anyone contemplating the Photon, this is my fourth print from the Photon.....ever! My first was to ensure I had it set up right, and stopped 5 minute in, and the next two had support (placement) failures. I am experienced with the Prusa Mk3 (amazing printer), but I picked up painting minis in the past month as a hobby, and needed a better printer for the purpose. I watched a bunch of videos on supports from 3DPrintingPro, did the exposure test, and here I am, 4th print.

Now, before anyone cracks on my painting skills, I’m trying to get my coordination back after I suffered a traumatic brain injury and brain bleed. My fine motor skill is shot. ?

All I came here to say is that if you do your homework on this thing before jumping in, it’s truly a breeze. I’ve had a lemon FDM printer before and understand if anyone is going through that with their Photon, but man, mine is a keeper.

Gushing post over!

Tested out the Anycubic Eco resin on a sculpt I did for a client and the result turned out better than I expected at 0.05 layer. I used the photon file validator that I saw recently on 3DPrintFarm's YouTube video and I have to say it's a life saver. I've been using Prusa slicer to build my automatic supports, then run it through that software and finally add light supports in chitubox on every island it shows me unsupported. By the end I still get warnings (ranging from 10 to 30 and between 1 to 5 pixels), which I end up not considering.

I definitely want to reduce failed prints and with the eco resin (which is so much better than the elegoo black I was using) plus the combo of Prusa slicer+chitubox+photon file validator (and loads of hours of patience) I feel I'm on the right track.

Good prints everyone!

I’m just getting the hang of resin printing.... got my Photon yesterday morning. This is my first miniature print. So far I haven’t been happy with any of the slicers for the Photon, so I used Prusa Slicer 2.1.0-beta for this one. Still trying to figure out best orientation and supports to use. Quite a learning curve going from FDM to SLD/DLP.
