Anycubic Photon Printer Owners 造訪社團 » Prusa

I see the Photon is a bit cheaper right now at $450 on Amazon. I don't actually own one yet and thought I would ask around here.

Do I jump on this deal? Do I wait for it to come down more? Do I buy from Amazon or a different vendor?

Do you like your Photon?
Is there a different DLP printer I should consider instead?

I currently own a Prusa I3 clone and I have built a d-bot printer. I have been 3d printing for 4 years now. But I have never done the resin based type yet.

Thanks for the add. I'm a 3D designer and have been selling on Shapeways for the past 3, 3 1/2, years. I'm sure a lot of you know about the mess that's been going on there for a while now. So now I'm looking into purchasing a printer to make and sell some of my more popular models myself to avoid SWs' hassles. I'm looking at either the Photon, the upcoming Prusa SL1 (the Prusa kit is basically the most I can spend on a printer and I'd get the cleaning station no matter which way I go), or maybe the "Bean" printer. I'm not sure which, though, or if I should even get into it in the first place.

I'm a college student and don't have too too much time except on the weekends. From my understanding, a DLP/SLA printer would require quite a bit more time and work than just a regular FDM printer would. I'm also unsure about how well a desktop DLP printer would lend itself to small scale, but relatively frequent, production of multiple models at once. I know that no matter what, these printers wouldn't be able to really match the quality of Shapeways' MJM printers but if Shapeways goes any further downhill after Jan 1, this might be my best option.

Also, a question about the Photon and resins. What is the highest resolution layer height that the Photon can reasonably print at? Shapeways offers detail plastics with a layer height of 16 and 25 microns. Can the Photon match the smaller height with reasonable accuracy? Also, I know that the resins tend to be somewhat toxic with a strong odor. Are there any high detail resins out there that are either non-toxic or won't emit such strong odors and vapors such that I wouldn't need a ventilation system? Space is somewhat tight for me so the less room and peripherals needed, the better.

Thanks.

Been a long time user of fdm.. Really wanted to get into SLS but thinking I'd like to try SLA.. What kinda difference in the print times Compared to a regular prusa running at 40mms.. Doea the resin go yellow and brittle if left in the sun? How would you rate the strength to PLA?

Need your suggestion...
Well so I got the anycubic photon three days ago from anycubic ebay store. I could not wait until to try it.... watched tons of videos praising it. But what is the reality? First print failed from unknown reason and z-axis motor stoped working.... contacted support and i have to say the reply fast. I was asked to try to update the firmware. That did not help... then I was asked to disassemble the thing and remove stepper motor to measure it according to the provided video. Motor showed up to be ok but z-axis is still dead. Well, after that i have packed everything back into to the box intending to ship it back and requested seller either to provide replacement machine or refund this one. They contacted me again, sending some another file and asked me to run it. And said that if this won’t help, they will send replacement mainboard to me. I am bored of this... i paid for a 3d printer I needed to use immediately, and instead of this I am faced to various challenges in order to fix a new out-of-the-box thing.... what would you do folks?

....browsed this photon group fb page a bit more yesterday evening, what i see, most of inputs are due to various problems from people actually having them. Really most of them..... is here anyone who has been using photon for longer period and can say he is happy and had no issues? Somehow i am losing my belief.... Because i am not a freak into 3d printing, I do not want to solve various issues and dedicate my time, go deep into, reading blogs about problems, fixing the printer if it is faulty...looking for solutions...I have other things to do..... Simply I need painless output, load a model and print it... is it worth to continue with photon? Or should I wait for 4x more expensive prusa sl1 until becomes available? Is anyone who can confirm he has been using photon for longer time and is happy with results with minimim problems? I just need to confirm going this way may be ok or is it a wrong way? Maybe these people having painless life with photon won’t drop a line here and only problems are reported... i would be happy for your opinions!

So I am looking into getting the resin game, and trying to decide between the photon, or spending a lot more for a more reputable (non Chinese made) printer (prusa sl1?). I have went through the cheap Chinese 3d printer process with the tevo tarantula and I'm still not where I'd like to be a year later. Is it worth it to save 1000 dollars to buy the photon instead of a reliably built machine that also has ease of use perks like the sl1 does? I am also considering the amount of expensive wasted resin I foresee using a cheaper machine.
Thanks in advance.

As many of you know, prusa has just released their new resin printer. Many of you won't be that bothered about the printer itself, although it has some extra features. It doesn't look good enough to justify that extra price tag.

However the one thing that I am looking forward to is the slic3r pe integration. I already use it for my mk3, so it'll be great if I could also use it with my photon. Prusa already offers features such as variable layer height. I'm excited to see what features they add in the future. My question is, how difficult would it be to add photon support to slic3r prusa edition? There are already several poeple in this community working on things such as the photon file validator. Considering that slic3r is open source, it feels like a good platform to implement photon support into.

Prusa just announced their resin printer.

No matter how you feel about their offering. Them introducing resin slicing into slic3r is gonna be huge for the resin printing world.

Yet another DLP printer to the market.
- print area size of 120 × 68 × 150 mm ( same as photon )
- 2K LCD MASKING
- Variable layer height
- Dual axis peeling
- lots of smart sensors
Looks pretty good! but pricey for such a small build volume.
