my LED screen went out for the first time after about 5 or 6 liters of resin and while trying to replace the screen I broke the glass underneath the LCD screen...

I used a heat gun for several minutes to try and help release the adhesive and it was still stuck in there incredibly well. Anyone have a link to purchase a replacement or is there anything special about the glass? I could probably just get a piece cut to size locally.

My resin tray seems to have developed a leak somewhere. Resin is cooking between the bottom of the tray and the glass. How do I fix this?

Temple of The Unified Build Plates of Photonia.
PSA

The past several weeks, over on the Phrozen groups, a rash of premature LCD failures in the Shuffle machines have been reported.

The LCD failures were Initially downplayed by Phrozen, and some owners, as being due to user failure instead of an inherent design flaw.

Phrozen has finally acknowledged that it is likely a combination of both factors by publishing some tips on how to prevent LCD damage on the Shuffles.

How does this affect the Photon? Both machines share similar designs; a UV light engine through an LCD mask. The main differences being that the Shuffles use a higher wattage UV LED array (Paraled) and unprotected LCD screens versus the Photon with a low wattage single source UV reflector cone and tempered glass protected LCD screens.

In comparison to the Shuffles, the Photons hardly suffer from premature LCD failures. Therefore based on the differences above, one can conclude it is probably due to less heat build up, and less mechanical stress on the Photon LCD screens.

The tips to help prevent LCD damage published by Phrozen can also be applied to help extend the already long lifespans of the Photon LCDs.

They are :

1. Avoid "rapid" curing resin. Abnormally high heat generated by very fast curing resins can cause permanent damage and dead pixels on the LCD.

2. Avoid resins that require very long initial (bottom) layer exposures. Again, high heat exposures will damage the LCD.

3. Keep resin, FEP and build plate clean at all times. Always check if the build plate, resin in vat and FEP film are free from cured resin before printing or leveling. This will help prevent mechanical (pressure) damage to the LCD.

4. Do not clean the FEP film with the vat on the LCD. Pressure from a scraper can cause permanent damage to the LCD. Remove the vat from printer before you clean the FEP film of stuck prints.

Sacrifice moar! Photonia thanks you.

Hey! So I've set my machine up and successfully managed to print the test cube and a few parts files I have designed... All went perfectly well and I was super happy. I then emptied the resin vat back into the container and cleaned the vat and the build plate using kitchen towel and a little ipa.

This seemed to work fine, I polished up the fep with a micro fibre cloth to remove any cloudy ipa marks, but the fep appears to be covered in a quantity of micro scratches such as you would see on an older pair of glasses lenses. They're only visible if you hold the vat up to a light source, it appears clear when viewed normally.

Will this negatively impact printing, and what did I do incorrectly? I can of course replace the fep film but I assume that it's intended to last longer than one clean!

Thanks in advance for the help!

So I've been experimenting....
I've been mixing resins as the print is going, giving a smokey or striped effect.
Starting prints with patterns of mixed resin in the vat.
And finishing prints with brushed-on resin to give a glass like finish (that picture doesn't do it justuce).

Wonderful start to my day! Someone decided to move the Photon in my classroom yesterday.....I guess they didn't realize the green liquid leaking out the sides and bottom was an issue. How screwed am I? I cleaned the outside, but afraid what the inside looks like

Question: What is the best way to avoid cloudiness when processing clear resin prints?

Would like my clear resin prints to resemble glass if possible! Cheers.

Question: Why are people sanding their print plates? I’ve been seeing a lot of failed prints with the blue anodize(?) sanded off. It seems like that’s what might be causing a leveling issue (and therefore bad prints) because it’d take precision to sand the surface perfectly flat to be flush with the film/glass. No?
