Will you be releasing the stls? What kind of plastic did you use for the window ?

Jon Sprinkle

Leo Bejarano I'm not sure if I'll release stls. Didnt really make it easy to assemble. The glass is just red plexiglass.

This is how I clean my dirty IPA: First let it sit in the sun or your UV lamp for several hours, this will create a cured soggy blob of resin, then you shake op the bottle so it is not a blob anymore (this will help running through the filter), next put 2 pieces of ply in you funnel, and pour the mixture in, let it drip for a few minutes until only drops come out, then take the 2 pieces of ply and shape it into a ball, and gently squeeze the remainder of the IPA out, this will leave you with maximum recovery of your IPA :)

I'm just going the same at the moment but using 190 micron paint filters. Seem to get all the bits out. Where did you get the funnel/tray rig from btw? I'd find that immensely useful! :-)

Some advice please
Trying to replace my screen and man it’s fiddly
I watched the anycubic vid a few times and thought I’d have a go

I feel like I’ve got the power attachment into the motherboard
It clicks in and sits flush but my uv test still suggests I’ve not done it right
Any Suggestions?

I'm currently in the same predicament. I replaced the LCD today and getting the same results. I then switched to another LCD from a different manufacturer but no change. I put in for a ticket with Anycubic. Let's see what they come up with.

Robert Mun
2020-03-21 11:07:24

What type of LCD screen? If it is the Mars one, I believe you have to use an adaptor. Plugging the wrong one in can fry the motherboard. In you case it looks like it may not be plugged in properly

Hello!

So brand new to printing with resin spend a lot of time using FDM
I have a photon zero :)

I'm struggling with my elegoo translucent resin. I have a couple issue.

1: the models are slightly yellow when I get them off the printer. I know yellowing is cause by over curing I reduced it down to 7s .04 layer. Do I need to go lower?

2: the models are STUCK to the bed. Like it takes a lot of force to get them off... they are support free models from fat dragon games but I never had this issue with my gray resin and I used the same file...

3: how to cure them to stop yellowing.... I cured using a uv light for 3 min... jot terrible but still yellow....but also came off the bed yellow.

I do have to use acetone to clean models :( mean green did not work well for me so I moved to acetone.

Not really experiencing any issues with my elegoo gray resin at this time...

As long as there is no cured resin on the screen, the next bet would be the LCD has gone bad. They are "consumables" and will need to be replaced depending on how much use and a random chance

Is that video showing the spots are from the LCD itself, rather than some type of cured resin?

Efren Pereira Avendaño

correct, the lcd is completely clean of resin, the gaps are black spots on the lcd

Use a photon validator . You may have missing pixels

Patrick Paul
2020-03-19 12:56:37

It’s unlikely but might be it needs an update. There should be one on the website, I forget where I got mine from but I had a third of the screen not working that it fixed but mine was also just a clean line of dead pixels where your dots are different than what I experienced.

Steve Roberts

Sterling Murphy doesn't apply to this case.

Ryan Moore
2020-03-19 23:13:15

Ryan Moore thank you. I actually contacted support and they will send me a new lcd

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-20 07:28:55

You have dead pixels on your lcd, Needs to be replaced, it can be caused by faulty LCD or if too much pressure is put on LCD.

I replaced the 2k screen on my photon. First time, but it did not seem too difficult in the tutorial. What could go wrong? Well, I guess I did something wrong and I hope you guys can tell me what. When I run the uv test now I don't see just a square, I see the entire screen... I'm pretty sure I connected the screen the right way, there is only 1 place the connector can go really...

Mongo Rogers

Most likely its the cable. try re-seating it a few times.

Jon Vogel
2020-03-18 23:39:38

There’s a few more bits of info needed: where did you get your replacement screen? Was it Anycubic or another brand? What was happening that prompted you to replace your screen?

Kyle Urban
2020-03-18 23:42:48

Jon Vogel elegoo screen, but they are the same specs. Had to replace old screen due to resin leakage.

Jon Vogel
2020-03-19 00:02:13

Did you use the cable adapter that came with the Elegoo screen?

Jon Vogel
2020-03-19 00:04:37

Kyle Urban
2020-03-19 00:28:00

Jon Vogel yes, if only because it makes the whole connecting thing easier :)

Jon Vogel
2020-03-19 00:28:46

Kyle Urban ok, good. Without that adaptor you damage your main board.

Kyle Urban
2020-03-19 00:55:28

Mongo Rogers I wish, tried fifteen times, no luck

Jason Chadwell
2020-03-19 10:12:43

Mine gets here tomorrow. Did you ever figure out the issue?

Kyle Urban
2020-03-19 13:44:19

Jason Chadwell no, I think this Chinese shtbox is dead and I can't figure out why. Maybe I ruined the connector by pressing too hard or something :(

Jon Vogel
2020-03-19 19:25:11

Kyle Urban yeah, I don’t have anything for you, bro. When my screen went out, I tried the Elegoo and didn’t know about the adaptor and had to replace my motherboard. After I got the new MB and a Anycubic screen, I was back in business.

Jason Chadwell
2020-03-19 20:58:34

I'll let you know if I make out with the screen. Will be sure to use the adapter as well. Nothing else going on for a couple of weeks may as well try it.

Kyle Urban
2020-03-19 21:31:24

Jon Vogel guess I can always try a new mb, but that's another 90$. Might as well buy a new one :(

Jon Vogel
2020-03-19 21:34:21

Kyle Urban yeah. Don’t know why the mb is so expensive. I went ahead and bought another Photon and the mb. Wife was out of town. She didn’t notice the 2nd Photon. Still hasn’t. Anyway, it’s nice to have a backup unit for sanity checks when debugging a broken one.

Kyle Urban
2020-03-20 05:47:22

Jon Vogel So ~130$ for a new mb and new screen or ~230 for a new Elegoo Mars... Anything cool I could do with the photon if I don't fix it up? Turn it into a cool UV curing chamber maybe?

Jon Vogel
2020-03-20 06:24:45

Kyle Urban sell it to someone for parts?

Jon Vogel
2020-03-20 06:25:20

Kyle Urban I had both the Mars and Photon and I decided that I liked the Photon better. So, YMMV.

Leonardo Escovar Quintero
2020-03-20 12:04:19

That's a scary thing for me, when the time comes I'll have to check a lot of tutorials and make a lot of questions lol. Thanks for sharing your experience so we can learn.

Kyle Urban
2020-03-22 04:05:05

Jon Vogel still not sure what to do here. Was looking at new main boards, but you'll see that I buy one and a week later the uv lights burn out. Photon zero could be a cheap option (only slightly more expensive than the main board... :S), but not sure how bad the resolution actually is in prints. Phrozen sonic mini would definitely be a winner, but impossible to find for sale, let alone for 200€. 260€ was cheapest I could find for a elegoo Mars in the end... Sigh. It's not easy, a printers life.

Jon Vogel
2020-03-22 07:55:41

Kyle Urban your UV went out? Dude. That’s some really bad luck. Probably it’s the controller, since the LEDs are pretty reliable. Wish I were there to help you debug.

Jon Vogel
2020-03-22 07:57:26

If it is the controller, a new MB might fix both your problems.

Jason Chadwell
2020-03-22 11:36:27

My new Elagoo LCD is held up in shipping but I will make sure to let you know how it works for my Photon. That might indicate other problem with your machine or I'll be in the same boat.

Kyle Urban
2020-03-22 14:17:10

Jon Vogel nah, uv is still good, but I'm afraid that if I patch up the mb on the photon now, something else will break down next. I think I know what to do; I'll buy a new photon and keep/use this broken one for spare parts.

Jason Chadwell
2020-03-24 08:14:18

Ok well my Elegoo screen showed up today and I'm up and running again, works great. The only thing I noticed is it would be easy to plug in the MIPI adapter the wrong way round or plug into the MB the wrong way round. Other than that pretty straight forward. Also half the cost of Anycubic replacement:) Sorry you had so much issue on yours, let us know how it progresses. Best of luck

Help identify the problem please, have had this printer since Oct of last year, printed loads with it and this morning I was able to get a few good prints but early this evening, my print failed on the right hand side, left print came out okay apart from right hand side where it seemed to have fused, thereby loosing details.

I then decided to have a closer look and this is what I found. Lines are appearing on the right hand side during exposure test.

Will I need a new UV and where's the best place to get one from the UK please as I cannot do without my printer ? hopefully it's an easy install as well.

Gary Slovinsky
2020-03-19 06:18:18

So I’m curious, whats the likelihood that a screen cable would get detached if printer is not moved?

I mean to me based on the OPs statement that he’s had it for about a year, i would have instinctively said his screen was going bad. At a year old I’ve heard of people having to change screens after maybe 6 months.

Patrick Harland
2020-03-19 06:56:06

Richard Webb uhm, I fiddled with the lcd screen on my photon s, I pried it to see if I can easily lift it out, it was quite hard and I couldn't manage it. I then decided to test the lcd again and oddly it seems to be fine, checked it a few times by using the exposure test and it's fine. Will try a print tomorrow and see. No idea why it is suddenly okay?!

Richard Webb
2020-03-19 06:59:02

I saw a number of posts saying that, and also that it started doing again after a short time. But fingers crossed for you. I found the easiest way to get the screen out was to push it up from the bottom, but there is a lot of dismantling to do that

Patrick Harland
2020-03-19 07:02:19

Gary Slovinsky I double checked, I actually got the printer mid December 2019 so 3 months of heavy use. However my lcd screen appears to be okay at the moment, re-tested it after I tried to pry the screen off without success.

Gary Slovinsky
2020-03-19 07:15:16

Patrick Harland if your screen appears fine now. Is it possible it was just a bad slice?? I’ve been known to get that on rare occasions with a FDM printer.

Wish I could give you advice on screen removal, I’m still on my original screen. I think I’ve heard it’s held in place w/double sided tape.

Richard Webb
2020-03-20 00:20:29

Mine has just arrived from 3djake. It is an 04 screen with the little adapter already attached !! Feel like ive been scammed !!!

try unplug the power leave the machine off for 10 mins then power up again check screen. if fail check the cable connectors. try firmware update for the machine you have if its an old photon. then try the epax update. if you are using the photon-s or the new photon. then head to the website and update the firmware there.
