Anycubic Photon Printer Owners 造訪社團 » FDM

I decided to test my Photon, so I printed a benchy. The white one is 100% scale on my FDM Folgertech FT-5 for compairison. I printed one at 50%, 35%, 25%, 17%, and 10%. I cannot believe that it printed @ 10@ size. I actually accidentally crushed it when trying to clean and cure it. The Photon is amazing!

Thanks for letting me join the group. I am switching over from Monoprice FDM printers to DLP for a very specific purpose: I do not care about build volume or even time to print. My only goal is very small prints with high detail. Typically objects that are 1mm to 10mm in size. Probably nothing ever larger than 50mm. The question: Will I see any significant difference between the Photon and the Photon-S for my purposes? I am particularly interested in the additional Z axis rod and its potential affect on Z wobble in the new design.

Howdy, y’all. I have a new Photon S, and I can’t get it to print. I have a lot of FDM experience, but this is my first resin printer. I will contact Anycubic tomorrow, but I figured I’d post here to see if anyone has had a similar experience:
Whether I slice in the Photon slicer or ChiTuBox (exporting to filetype .photons), I have the same problem. The sliced file looks fine if I re-open it in the slicer - the layers have images that step through correctly. When I load the files on the printer, I see them correctly in the print screen, including the little 3D thumbnail image. But when I print any of them, I get zero curing. I confirm that the UV lamp is coming on correctly for the amount of time per layer that I set in the slicer - I can see it through the crack in the case above the UI screen. But the LCD is fully masked - the whole screen is activated to block the UV. So no curing happens. This happens with every file I slice in either slicer. This same thing happens with the PHOTON.photons presliced lattice cube that came with the printer. Also, I think the image on the UI is supposed to show an image of the mask for each layer, right? Well it shows a solid black layer each time, so that and the LCD are in sync.

Additional information:
- build plate is level and zero’d. I tried both the paper method and the Flint Read method. Anyway, this is irrelevant because the problem is with the mask and not with the leveling.
- the LCD test is successful. I see the rectangle. It just doesn’t work right when reading a sliced file.
- I tried using the Photonsters sliced file editor to see if I could figure out what is wrong inside the .photons files. But the tool only works with .photon and not with .photons files.
* another possibly important piece of info is that after I run a print, whether I cancel it or let it run to completion, the printer UI freezes on the print screen. The UI screen is unresponsive and I have to flip the power switch.
- power cycling the printer will reset things, but I still have the same issue the next time around.
- I checked the cat to see if I somehow missed a protective liner sheet that was on the FEP and somehow blocked UV, but no. Also, I can see that the LCD is masking every pixel when the UV lamp comes on.

* one idea - in order to export to .photons from chitubox, I had to set up a new generic printer config from scratch. I set all the parameters to be the same as the settings that come up if you select a default Photon config. The only exception being that on the advanced tab on a new config, there are gcodes defined so you can make your files talk correctly to your given printer. The default Photon config does not even show these gcodes, so I have no idea of what is automatically populated for a generic printer config. I left them as they were auto generated and sliced the file. Then, the FIRST sliced file I ran on the printer was one that I sliced with this config in chitubox. I wonder if those gcodes were wrong, and were saved to the printer EEPROM. Now perhaps every print that I run, even if sliced in the photon slicer, doesn’t work because there’s a bad gcode for “activate lamp” or something saved in there. That doesn’t actually make sense with how I understand gcode to work, but I’m grasping at straws here. Actually, do these Photon printers even use gcode?

Anyway, sorry for the novel, but I’m pretty frustrated with my resin experience so far. At least now I figured out that the mask is the issue - I just need to figure out WHY it’s not actually following the layer images in the sliced file...

I was able to get the Raspbery camera working and streaming with the thumb drive mod. I've noticed normal thumb drives activity light goes off once every layer. It would be sweet if you could somehow take a picture each time the photon reads the USB.

It should be possible to use OctoPi as an interface and have uploaded files show up to the USB drive, in addition to the samba network share. (Currently do this on my FDM printer. I can upload either way). Camera controls would be already installed but OctoPi won't start a time lapse unless it's controlling the print. Now, if anyone knows how to add a manual start time lapse button via plugin (or detecting a USB read.... Somehow) That would answer most users wants for network capabilities.

I've had more success with the molds.

I switched from the Anycubic resin to a grey, heat resistant resin. It can take up to 160˚c- Though not really required for urethane, it does warm up a little, so I thought it wouldn't hurt.

This particular mold is for a part that I manufacture. Until now, I have been making them on FDM printers. It is a mechanical part, and they have to be printed out of PETG, and they have to be ALMOST solid to be strong enough. It takes me about 1 1/2 hours to print one.

The cast urethane version takes about 15 minutes to make 4. And, It's MUCH stronger.

The mold is made up of 3 main parts, and 4 "inserts". The inserts form the end that connects to the motor shaft- which is round with a milled flat. The connector just slips on.

I printed the molds at 0.05mm resolution. The two outside parts are one print, and the middle is another. They take about 12 hours.

Both came out perfect on the first try- Other than removing the supports, there was almost no post processing. I even got to use my new curing setup!

I bolt the parts together, tighten them up, and pour the urethane. 10 minutes later, I have a finished part. With two of these molds, I'll be able to crank out LOTS of these parts. This printer has paid for itself in the first week I have owned it!

I have not tried to print anything with moving parts on my Photon yet. Is it even a good idea? Dropping a link for something I’d like to try. I would want to print it all as one item. I’ve done it on my FDM machine but would like to see the results on the Photon.

I apologise in advance if this is asked often. Just ordered my photon :D looking for some tips tricks and or advice that you wish you knew about starting in. I've done a lot of research and familiar with FDM for the last 2 years, but I know this is a whole different animal. Just curious if there's any advice or recommendations for getting started.

I understand how to set the Z offset slash leveling the plate. right off the bat if I have any play in the z-axis I'm going to take it apart and tighten up the centric bearings. I've ordered some replacement FEP sheets just in case so I'm not stuck waiting.

OK brand new to resin printing so please forgive me if this is a basic noob question! My first print failed to adhere to the build plate properly. Is it a similar process to fdm printers where the build plate needs to be closer to the LCD? I see there is some hardened resin in the tank now too. What's the best corse of action to take here? Filter resin back into bottle, clean tank, move plate closer, reinstall vat and reprint? Again please excuse noob-Ness! ?

Also if anyone could link me to any helpful site or YouTube videos/channels that are good for learning that'd be awesome too
