LED & Z-axis comparison
This article briefly compares the LED and Z-axis of Anycubic photon, photon-S, Wanhao d7, d8, Phrozen shuffle and EPAX X1. It may be different from the actual situation because it is based on personal guesses.
I will compare the LED first.
Photon has 4 LEDs. For Photon-S, the exact number is unknown, but it seems to have about 40 or more LEDs. d7 has 30 LEDs. The d8 has 49 LEDs. The Phrozen shuffle has 24 LEDs. EPAX has 50 LEDs.
And not only the number of LEDs, but also the layout is different. Photon, d7 and EPAX have LEDs in a small area. Then use a reflective funnel to diffuse the light. There is a disadvantage that the curing is not constant since the position of the LED is centered.
Photon-S, Phrozen shuffle, and d8 place LEDs on a large area and use a lens to diffuse the light. This is usually called 'Paraled LED'. Photon-S and Phrozen shuffle use large lenses and d8 use relatively small lenses. It is also said that this method causes the lifetime of the LCD to be shortened due to the heat of the LED.
The number of LEDs suggests that Photon's LED power is the weakest. According to the person who used Photon-S with LED number increase, Anycubic green resin was printed in 50um layer, 5 exposures.
Next, let's compare the Z-axis.
Photon consists of a double steel rod and three steel bearings. Photon-S is similar to Photon but has two very wide rails that look stronger. d7 was previously the same as Photon, but now upgraded to 1.5, two steel rods and a bearing bush are used. The d8 and Phorzen shuffle use two linear rails and a ball screw. This is the most ideal Z-axis we can think of. EPAX consists of a double steel rod and four steel bearings similar to the rails used by Photon-S. The difference is that the bearing is located outside. Special anti-backlash nuts are also used.
Unusual is the d7, d9, Phrozen shuffle uses Nema motors and rods as couplers, while Photon, Photon-S and EPAX use integral threaded rod nema motors.
Vat is made of metal all except d8. In addition, the d7 and EPAX have rubber seals to prevent the resin from leaking from the vat.
According to EPAX's product description, Non FEP film is used less sticky than commonly used FEP film. This film is compatible with printers that are the same size as Photon or d7.
