The Gorwa Read screen damage preventative method.....

Ok I am seeing a lot of screens getting broken by removal of the vat, The stock Photon screen protector is not glued in very firmly, This is by design as it needs to be able to be removed by the user when you need to replace the LCD due to the UV light eventually breaking it down, So the LCD is a long term consumable,

what is happening i think is that the fep is flat on the screen and the suction that develops with the fluids weight and the printing is pulling the screen protector out.

You can prevent this by running some tape around the edge of the screen to stick it more firmly to the bed, This has the added bonus of stopping an accidental leak from getting in there too.

If your screen is ok and you have not done this I STRONGLY recommend you do it before your next print, and save the heart ache of an accidentally broken screen.

Remember to level again after you do this though you can use the Flint Read method although cheaper less effective methods of levelling are available.

Be careful out there Photonsters.

I have been repairing and diagnosing 3D models for 20 years now and have also been doing this for group members.

I can diagnose a file error pretty fast and give an estimate of the time it will take to fix it and make it printable. (no charge for file diagnostics)

My charge for doing this is £5 for the first half hour and £10 pounds per hour after that.

Try fixing in meshmixer or 3D builder first though this will fix most problems but if they won't do it you can always hire me.

I can deal with OBJ STL but not Maya or 3Ds max so convert those before you send them to me.

I can also rebuild from scratch as this can often be faster.

I can also slit a model into separate parts for easier off the plate printing.

If you have a model that will not print and you don't know why I can check it here for free but will have to charge for time if you want it fixed.

PM me if you need my work and we can take it from there.

A thought occurred to me:

The reaction of the cure causes the resin to heat up so if your print is irregular in shape the different temperatures will vary for the layers surface area.

but if your print is hollow your resin cure temperature will be more even

so i guess my point is for a solid print your normal layer time will be an average at best but for a hollow print it might be more exact?

Discuss please i have woolly head so may be wrong here.

Attention ALL new Photonsters...
The noise you hear a POP CLICK CRACK RIP PIP or any other small fast noise as your build plate rises is NORMAL for a good print it is the sound of the FEP releasing the print DO NOT PANIC, This has been a Photonster calming announcement on behalf of the management.

Happy printing citizens of Photonia.

I have been having a chat with one of the suppliers of Fun To do resins, and it turns out that the supply of one of the key ingredients is in world wide short supply at the moment and this is why stocks have been temporarily low,

but the situation is being sorted and will return to normal in the next week or two,

I will let the group know if and when I hear more on this.

Ok I have been thinking about all these Vac systems you guys are building and I can see a problem maybe,

The Photon draws air down through the machine and out and all your systems are drawing it up and out, While this will vent fumes and smell it will also remove warm air from the print volume that is exposed above the resin and that resin like to be warm I think this may lead to failed large prints and you either may need to consider heating your enclosure to keep this effect from happening or reduce the airflow or better yet take the back plate off and put your VAC out tube on there instead of the top thus restoring the originally intended air flow pattern and reducing the cooling effect.

Just a random brain dribbling but it might be worth considering if you come across a failed print problem having done this.

Ok I am sorry I can't remember who asked for the pic of my home made screen protection device, So as my Photon is actually not doing anything right now i have finally been able to both take a pic and remember to take a pic of it.

It's 0.03 Gorilla glass with electricians tape forming the light mask and sealing the edges against resin intrusion.
