Latest successful prints - Replacement darts for the shoulder-mounted rocket launchers on a giant batman robot toy. Not mine, thankfully. The thing's as tall as my three-year-old.
Only took me about 20 minutes to get the basic form of the dart modelled in Fusion360. I then spent over 3 hours fiddling around trying different head designs......
Printed off four options to test-fit. As long as they work, next batch will be as many as I can fit on the build plate.
I suspect the Monocure Rapid Blue that I've used will be a little too brittle to work well. Maybe this is the excuse I've been looking for to buy some Flex that I can throw into the mix.

The Fillenium Malcon flies again! Another successful print in Monocure Rapid Blue.
Some of the supports didn't make the grade for some reason, but she turned out all right in the end.
Printed at 0.05, took about 18 hours total. Relieved as hell she came out alright after that much print time!
Plan is to get a clear-coat on her over the weekend, but for the moment she's enjoying lounging in the sun when she gets a chance for a bit of extra curing.

5.5 hours down, only 12.5 to go. Here's to the tallest thing I've ever been brave enough to try printing. It's the Fillenium Malcon model from Thingiverse, scaled so that it's about 148mm tall....
I can see I've lost a couple of the supports right on the back end, but all the other little helpers seem to have hooked up alright, so I'm hoping it'll all be there when I get back into the office tomorrow morning.
I've printed it with the arse on the print bed, and the tips of the nose are just within print volume. No raft, just a few free-standing supports, which seems to have worked well so-far.
Wish me luck! :)

Hey All,
Just threw a couple more Things up on the 'Verse:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3412911 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3412891
Both come out great on the Photon, in particular the XYZ reference in Monocure Blue with that slight transparency is an indispensable desk toy for me now. The Chamfers on the little screwdriver bit wrench also mean you can just run it off flat on the bed and the holes still work fine (at least with the Anycubic Clear and Monocure Blue I've printed them in so-far).

Hey Folks,
Got a couple of more general questions I reckon y'all may be able to help with.
I'm an Engineer, so all my experience designing stuff has been using tools like Fusion360 to do precisely dimensioned and fairly regular parts. I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how to go about taking, for example, a Green Lantern (the actual light, not the character) model from Thingiverse, and trying to mod it to turn it into a little necklace charm for my wife. (Add a little loop at the top that's meaty enough to do the job, maybe tweak some of the curves, that sort of thing)
In my current workflow for stuff I design, I use Meshmixer, but only for hollowing and venting. I've had a look at meshmixer's mesh editing tools, and have only managed to destroy perfectly good models, I've never managed to actually make something nice.
Could anyone point me in the direction of a good tutorial/starting point for someone who's never worked with manipulating meshes before?
Second question, is there anyone Sydney-based who does casting and would be willing to talk about casting a little figurine as a gift for a mate? It's the mascot of a game he made, it's done quite well and I was looking at getting him a gift made. I've been playing around with prints in resin, but I don't have any gear to do casting myself, and I'd like to look at getting it done in either Stirling Silver, or maybe 18K gold. PM me and we can chat, I can send through some of the STLs I've pulled from the game.
Cheers in advance folks!

Hey Folks. I've printing PCB mounts for wierd enclosures on my Photon. Thinking of ways to bond the boards in place. I tried using a drop of resin then hitting it with my UV torch, but it seems like there's some sort of almost oily layer that's forming at the interface between the resin and the PCB and stopping it from bonding properly. I get the same residue if I just zap a drop of resin on a piece of paper/plastic.
Anyone know if this is a normal part of the process, or am I doing something strange?

After about 25 attempts to get the damn supports right, resulting in many many pancake aliens, and quite a few that only exist below the belt, I finally got this little bugger done!
2mm wall thickness, basically fills the build volume. Monocure Rapid Red - 10x80 second base layers, 11 second mid-layers at 50 micron height. About a 13.5 hour total build. Hollowed and drain holes added in Meshmixer, supports in ChiTuBox. No raft, just the support bases. Printed at a 15 degree angle to the side (all I could manage to keep him in the build volume)
The bottom came out looking like hamburger, but was easy enough to sand back. The rest of him looks cute as hell. Thinking I'll cut a coin slot in the back of his head and give him to my little man as a piggy-bank!

About to possibly do something rather silly....
How do people think Orbeez will react when soaked in resin, and what will happen when I hit 'em with the flashlight afterwards?

Hey all,
I'm finding my unpainted prints are suffering badly from UV exposure, but I love the translucent resin effect. Does anyone know of a (gloss) clear varnish I could use to UV stabilise my prints but still leave them looking like resin?
(AU based, so Amazon isn't a great option for me)
