I seem to have gotten my self in a jam here. I was replacing the LCD screen and the one I ordered did not come with the top glass. Is there any place I can get a glass plate for it? The original did not survive the removal process.

Layer shifting. I just ran into it for the second time. After the print failed, I re-printed the file with no vat and took a timelapse. I captured up to the time the layer shifting started, and then switched to real time video because I noticed something that to me was really strange. The LCD on the front showed the layer just fine, it was only the LCD in the print bed that was shifting layers. Do .photon files have two different versions of each layer within them, one high resolution for the print bed and one low resolution for the front LCD? Or are both screens driven by the same layer data?

I ask because if both screens are driven by the same data, then I can rule out the USB or corruption in the file itself, and the issue _has_ to be with the onboard firmware. And yes, I had checked both the preview from the Photon Slicer and the Anycubic File Validator and neither showed any issues.

While I'm asking, I'm also super confused by their firmware nomenclature, none of the numbers on the firmware packages you can download from Anycubic seem close to the versions listed on my printer's info screen? Am I already on the latest?

So I watched this video on YouTube https://youtu.be/4wnYcYb1YRw about alternatives to using FEP film for the VAT. It’s PET/EVA laminate sheets. The video didn’t show any results or comparisons so for science I thought why the hell not let’s try it.

The sheet out of the VAT is the original FEP sheet after 30ish prints (single/multiple modes per print) and the one installed into the VAT is the laminate sheet. It’s not as clear from new compared to the original FEP but so far it seems to be working just fine (see video).

I chose 80 micron thickness (will try 120 microns at some point). If it works then it will be a VERY cheap alternative. It was £4.99 for 25 sheets of A4 size. Each sheet can be separated into two sides of A4 so that’s 50 sheets, then each 50 sheets can be halved again for 100 sheets as the VAT only needs an A5 size. Do the math and each sheet is 0.0499p. At that price per sheet you can use these like toilet paper lol. Only down side is removing and installing a new sheet takes forever due to the 1000 screws you have to remove ?

I will post my results when the print is done!

UPDATE!

Did it work? Yes, half of the model did print until the sheet split and resin got on the LCD and a layer of resin cured lol (I cleaned it up fine, no damage done, wasted a bit of resin).

Print was fine up until it split, probably because I used such a thin sheet. Definitely won’t be using 80 microns, I will still try a thicker 160 microns sheet at some point though. I’ll be posting here when that comes.

So yeah, stick with the proper FEP when you can ? . I’ve done the science, learned something new ?

Where to get a new LCD. Every print this week has failed. I have a FEP with full cover of thin resin stuck. I suspect as told earlier the screen is dying

Just got my Photon, 3 prints in, lcd screen has apparently stopped working. No resin is being cured in the tank. I can see the black light come on inside but there is no rectangle when I do the UV light test off the menu. Any easy fixes I can check myself before going through support? Has anyone else encountered a thin film of cured Resin that covers the entire build plate after a print? It seems like the print is turning out OK but that film is annoying.

Monocure rapid black 0.05mm layers. 12/1.5/60/8. It's almost as if the whole lcd is leaking enough UV to cure the whole build area slowly. This was not occurring with fun2do industrial black but I also recently swapped out the fep sheet.

Again NO print, LEFT SIDE : what was stuck t the bottom of the vat and RIGHT SIDE : what was on the print plate...
Did new calibration before printing because of installation new LCD.
Maybe calibration was too “loose”? (Last time it was too “tight”)Or what do you guys think??? Thank you!! Philippe have you got the solution?
