Hey guys. An idea popped into my head yesterday for an update/new feature for the file validator software. No idea how to code for programs so thought I’d throw it up here for discussion. Also, only been 3D printing for a month so it might have already been brought up:
The other day I was looking at alternative slicing programs and came across z-suite. While looking at the features I started reading about how with the Zortrax printers they can give the supports different exposure time then the rest of the model, making them potentially more brittle and easier to remove. I thought that was a cool feature and just accepted that these things are the sort of things you pay the extra for for the higher end machines.
But then last night it popped back into my head. All that would need to be done is to do a similar process to how the exposure test works: print the slice like normal, don’t raise z axis, then immediately follow with a slice that only has the image of the supports and expose that for the extra time. Then raise up to next layer and then rinse+repeat.
To begin with I thought this could only be accomplished with the slicer+printer having the ability built in to differentiate between supports and model. But then it dawned on me that all it would need is two files to import: the first being the supported model sliced like normal, and then the second would be the same model in the same position/orientation but this time sliced WITHOUT supports. The program could then take the normal slice, compare it to the slice without supports and then generate a slice which is just the second one overlayed on top of the first, blanking out the model, leaving only the support info. These slices could then be added in between the normal slices
Thoughts?
