Is there anyone in the south Florida area that could help me print the 4 inch exhaust/duct adapter from Thingiverse for the Photon? I just got my Photon and planned to print that part on my MPSM but it’s just outside the build size my little FDM printer can handle :(

Just got my Photon last night and went through the setup process to get it ready to print. Still waiting on a few things so I can post process efficiently before I print but there was one thing I'm not too sure of.

Is there a general rule to follow to know what part of your model needs support? I'm guessing that it's the same as FDM printing except upside down?

I was going to try the Mushroom heads of this model and figure I could print these without support, does that look right?

Quick question about supports, I am new to resin printing as i normally print on my FDM printer and I have a couple of models that print without supports although they do have some steep angles, if it prints without supports on FDM does this mean it will print in resin without supports ? or will it need some supports in order to help pull it from the surface of the FEP ? Just trying to get my head around why and where to place supports, its easy on FDM as i can see if there are any floating islands that need support but i am assuming theres more too it with resin. and advice would be cool, cheers.

Hello everyone. Have been using FDM for quite a while and resin printer has been on my wish list for quite a while now. Found lighting sale on amazon for photon for CAD $480 (about US$360) but then noticed that Elegoo mars is available for CAD $399 so that's $80 difference. Is photon worth the extra? Thanks :)

Hey folks! I tried to find some answers to a major problem I have with my new Photon on reddit, but I couldn’t get a definitive solution. So here is another try, since this group is always mentioned as the best resource for the Photon.
Please forgive the wall of text, but I wanted to give as much info as I could. The story is compiled in an album here: https://imgur.com/gallery/qy52RCe
My initial test lattice cube went awesome! Also the following two miniature prints came out great.
The last four prints after that however had the linked failures/artifacts. Something went wrong with the buildup of extra flags or broken supports or something?
I used AnyCubic grey resin with these ChiTuBox settings https://i.imgur.com/5J6tMwm.png found in some blog post. Auto Supports placement.
After cleaning/filtering/leveling and a another try I was left with what seemed like permanent stains on my FEP after just a few prints. Couldn’t get rid of them for the life of me. I carefully tried the plastic spatula, some IPA and a microfiber cloth to no avail.
Another print made it even worse https://i.imgur.com/cHL1Omy.jpg , so I replaced my mere 6 day old FEP with the spare (removing the protective cover, of course) and tuning it to ~345 Hz.
Meanwhile I found your Photon File Inspector and used it for my next print. These were the settings I chose: https://i.imgur.com/jDCOzyN.png .
I adjusted them similar to what the lattice test file was like that came with the printer. So no more Light Off Delay! Thought that had been my biggest screw up, causing the resin to cure while re-pooling. Heureka?
No. Similar problem with the print (albeit less noticable since the model was thin) and I had a layer of semi-cured resin almost all over the bottom of the VAT. And again, tiny stains of resin remain on the FEP after thorough cleaning.
What on earth am I supposed to do? I'm out of ideas. Is my FEP now broken again ? I will try firmware v4.0.11 (if I can find an install guide for the files that come with it) to try and fix potential light bleed and I will go back to the translucent resin for a test print. But if nothing more helps, I will have to assume the LCD is broken and the printer goes back for replacement.
I honestly don't enjoy to tinker around anymore, the whole deal just isn't made for it unlike FDM, because every failed print is way more work and cost.
Thanks for taking the time and helping out! Sorry if I'm breaking some etiquette, I've never been on Facebook before. 翻譯年糕

I'm beginning to think that resin printing is started to cost about the same as FDM.

With the cost of "named" filament costing $n for 1kg and resin costing similar for 1L... Good printing techniques (hollow, good drain holes) use very little resin...

So, do we have any solid, proven options for our Photon similar to Octoprint? I us a PI and Octoprint on both my FDM printers and love it. I especially love being able to check in from downstairs. I know NanoDLP exists, but is it any good? Are there other options? Thanks for your thoughts in advance....

Somewhat related question, suggestions for a good FDM large volume printer at a lower price point (similar to photon)?

I'm hoping to get into printing terrain (where model detail isn't as important as miniatures). Printing terrain on my Photon is getting costly and frankly annoying since I need to cut terrain into multiple prints due to build plate size.

So after finishing with Bell 206 I finally started working on my Eurocopter Tiger. Started with wings and weapons mounts and the tail section.
All weapons and scale fittings printed on photon. Only the big stuff (vertical stabilizer replacement) is done on Prusa /FDM.
And the 3rd tool for the job being a vinyl cutter for all those little panels etc.
