Hello folks, brand new here, been a FDM owner for quite a while now and im thinking about buying a Photon to delve into resin prints.
Interested in learning more about resin printing (and particularly about using other branded resins with the Photon, its very hard to get a hold of Anycubic Resin here in Portugal)

Hi guys/gals

Couple questions... I’m reupholstering the seats in my vette. I broke a plastic cover plate that has been discontinued.

So far I’m unhappy with the printed results on my prusa. I like the texture the bed gives as it creates an OEM finish but getting the fillets not to look like chamfers with the outward facing side against the bed is where it’s coming up short so onto the questions.

1. Would anyone here be able to assist me in adding a texture to the model that resembles the texture of plastic on the interior of a car like a dashboard? I designed my piece in fusion 360.

2. Do you think standard resin once painted would work well as a retaining clip or should I get something stronger? on FDM I was planning on producing the final piece in PETG.

So, id like to show off the difference between fdm and resin to my parents (whom im meeting tomorrow). Any cool tips for quickish prints that would blow their minds, and can be printed and post processed before 1100 tomorrow? :D

looking at adding a photon s to the fdm machine I have, what sort of engineering resins are available in the UK. and do any of you make functional parts with these machines? examples?

So... is it common practice to have to refill the resin tank halfway through a print? I'm pretty much out $40 in resin because twice now, there hasn't been enough to finish a print (and unlike FDM printers, there's no runout sensor, so it's just a complete waste).

If I put more resin in, it is too much and covers the ball joint.

So... is it normal to add mid-way?

It’s a few days late but my Photon-S is now here!! I can’t wait to get started printing! I’ve had FDM machines for a long time but this will be my first resin printer! Can’t wait to see the improvements...

**Purchased this from Amazon UK.. Spoke to Anycubic to confirm it was genuine and they said yes now available in black. So as far as I can tell it’s legit. (Link in comments)

Terrible Z-wobble which I couldn't remove due to stripped Allen key heads on eccentric nut...

Linear rail upgrade done using FDM printed bracket.

Due to some horrendous marking out on my part I totally borked fixing the linear rail in place with screws.

Not to beaten at the first hurdle I just glued them on the Z column. Took great care in masking the rails and fixing them flush with the column front face. Fixed with Araldite Steel and they worked perfectly!

Take away from this, if you can cut a rail to length, then you can upgrade without milling, drilling and tapping!

**UPDATE**

Should mention I keyed the rail and column with 80 grit to ensure the epoxy had something to grip as they need to be clamped tight.

I used Araldite Metal because I had it in my glue "box" but any two part epoxy will do the job.

You will need eight M3x8mm cap head bolts for attaching the bracket to the rail carriages.

Loving how the head/neck came out for this dragon. It's so hard to get decent looking teeth on an FDM printer. Does a great job printing the large pieces though!

Hey guys, my Photon is in the mail and due to arrive soon. I’ve never used an SLA/DLP (what ever is actually is) printer before, only an FDM. What DIY things should I grab to prepare for printing? I’m talking alcohol stuff to rinse off prints, lamps or stuff for curing, containers for holding said rinsing liquid, filter paper etc for re using resin. All above mentioned is only what I have seen from some videos. Some advice from people that actually own a Photon with what I’ll need would be great thanks!
