Hi all. I have a print that is going to take about 7 hours. The first time it broke off of the supports and failed. Is there a way to check to see if it’s actually printing about mid way through?

press the pause button? It will lift the part up. You may or may not incur some minor layer shifting in the print due to the pause. I've had pretty good luck with my Photon and PAUSE (unlike my Ender 3, which PAUSE might as well be labelled "ruin this print?")

Rory Kostman thank you! I was worried about layer shift so that’s why I haven’t tried it. Hate seeing a bunch of broken supports stuck to the plate after all that time overnight.

Have the supports 20mm long, and pause it while they are still printing in the first fifteen minutes, then after that you can see it anyway. You could always set the lifting distance higher (and the lifting speed to make up for it) if you want to get a peek sooner

Just open it and check....Seriously, it will be fine. I do it all the time.

Jacob Hale I opened it but it’s sitting in the vat below where I can see. Do you mean hit pause first and open it up?

Such is the resin way. Us FDMrs, we know within 2 layers if its going to go horribly...but resin? Shes a temptress.

Stuart Johnson yes, she is a fickle goddess but oh so satisfying.

You can pause it, and it will raise up enough to see. But you run the risk of getting a layer line where you paused it. Up to you if it's worth it.

Thanks for the helpful posts guys! It came out great.

I'd like to sculpt some straps in ZBrush similar to the ones pictured here and print them. Do you guys know if there a flexible resin that I could try? I don't want to heat up normal resin and bend it because that just sounds like a bad idea all around. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is there a semi-flexible resin that people here really like to use? I’m trying to make weapons for 6” action figures but I’d like for them to have a slight flex to them so they don’t snap in case they get bent while posing them around. Any suggestions?

Anyone have a config setting that always works for them for Chitubox slicer software? I’m printing some small action figure heads and every time I try that program the prints fail. The supports and raft are stuck to the plate but the heads seem to break off. Using AnyCubic gray resin.

Does anyone here use their printer to print custom action figure heads? Namely, ones for Marvel Legends figures? If so, is there some secret to getting a neck peg hole in the head that fits most figures so it snaps on nicely? I use ZBrush to create the sculpts, but I just can’t hit the spot with the peg hole. It’s either too large or too small.

Here’s how the first custom action figure (Snake Eyes from G.I. Joe) came out with the aid of the Photon for printing the head. Body is a kitbashed Marvel Legend but the head is from scratch created in ZBrush. Can’t believe how nicely the print came out. So many possibilities!

First failed print with the new Photon. Bummer. Left it running to find the supports stuck to the plate and thin hard pieces stuck to the bottom of the vat. Guess I’ll clean it all out and re-level tomorrow. Good excuse to try a new resin I guess!

Anyone here airbrushing their primer on? Any recommendations? I was thinking of picking up either the black or gray (or both) Vallejo surface primers today. Thanks!

Hi everyone! New to the group. New Photon is arriving today and I'm pretty excited! Just have a quick question. I'm going to be using this to create toys and was wondering if I can prime and paint directly on the resin after post-processing (curing, sanding, etc.) I'll be starting with a couple of custom action figure heads I created in ZBrush.

Coming from FDM printing, there is always a ton of time with cleanup and then casting silicone molds and further refining. If I could skip a few of those steps it would be awesome. This seems like a great group! Thanks in advance!
