On your marks....

Playing in the lab today.

I printed the included test model on the Photon, and the Photon S.

4h 40m on the S, 5h 25 m on the Photon.

But the print on the S has failed- Twice.

In fairness, this isn't the first time the Photon has printed- It took me a while to get it all straightened out, too.

The "S" has landed. Running a test print right now.

We'll be running a series of side by side comparison tests. Will we be able to settle the "Which is better" question? Not likely.

But what we WILL do is provide hard facts about each machine- So you can decide for yourself which is better. What's best for one person isn't for the next, after all.

I'm playing with the printers tonight... This is a print that I've been meaning to try- But didn't think would work.

It's print in place chain mail. And, it works!

I had to flex it a bit to free it up after I removed it from the bed, but it moves freely now. Pretty cool.

The printers have started arriving for the comparison. I was going to start with the Photon today, but I'm only getting 1/2 a rectangle when I test the LCD screen. I've reflashed the fimrware, no difference. Any other things to try before I send it back to Amazon??

The new printer area is ALMOST ready to go... Up on the shelf in the back, still in it's box, is the new Photon.

So far, here is the lineup that has been CONFIRMED-

Anycubic Photon
Zortrax Inkspire
Kelant S400
Kelant D200
Phrozen Shuffle XL
Epax X1
SparkMaker

There are a few others that might join in. Stay tuned!

For anyone interested, I've created a group to follow this on-

https://www.facebook.com/groups/607095396425931

I'm still looking for input on what tests people want to see, and what printers people would like to see tested.

I'm updating the 'home' for my resin printers- To make some room.

I have to admit, I've become a bit of an addict. I just love playing with them- especially the experimental side of things. So, I've decided to start a little project.

I want to compare some different printers. I already have a Zortrax Inkspire, an Anycubic Photon, and a Kelant S400.

I'm adding a few more. I have a Phrozen Shuffle XL on the way, and probably an Elgoo Mars. I think I'm going to toss a Sparkmaker in to the mix, and possibly also an EPAX- Perhaps a few others. I'm not sure if I am going to get a Photon S quite yet- Seems they are still working on it a bit?

My main reason for doing this is that there seem to be a LOT of different machines out there, many of which seem to offer some great features. The problem with most of them, however, is that the manufacturer is the only source of information about them. Like most, I've gone the safe route until now, buying the machines that have a larger following, but now I feel like living on the edge.

I'd also like to test some different resins as well, across all the machines.

Of course, I'll be documenting the testing on Facebook, YouTube, and probably some sort of blog.

So- What kind of testing are people interested in seeing? Are there any additional machines that should be in the mix?

Test prints, done at the same time with 0.03mm layer height. I'm pretty impressed by this machine, and this resin (Siraya Sculpt). I could do some dialing in on the exposure times to get some of the tiny details perfect.

The cube is just cool... It rotates freely, but I can't get my fat fingers in there to do it :)

What happens when you're used to FDM, aren't paying attention, and have your slicer set for 0.25mm.... Ooops.

In all fairness, still a decent print, considering!
