quick question, printing thin flat files. (IE a boarding shield from Warhammer 40k sized for a space marine) is it better to lay them flat on the bed or rotate them vertical? had some good results printing iron hands boarding shields but some cracked when I took them off the bed.

so I have tried to print some things on my printer and i have had three objects come out of it, (that one was a partial success) the rest do not adhere to the build plate, thought I leveled the bed properly and am using long first exposure times. would roughing up the build plate be a good idea? like take a floor tile or true piece of glass and lay sandpaper down over top and scuff up the build plate?
