Just the bottom of the Cape left to glue on and glue the hulk together ? didn't add up the dimensions but it is big ? that's an old dead Asus rog 17" laptop behind it on the boxes ?

Its always satisfying to make a big print. How are you going to glue it. Using resin and UV light or something else?

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-29 09:57:49

It is very much ?

Most of the figures are glued together with super glue, I was thinking to fill the lines of the joints by brushing resin over layer by layer to get a nice finish, still not sure about painting it, it's a very long process and I don't have all the color here, shops aren't open ?‍♂️

Nikola Pijanac

I've only ever used resin for glue if I need to fill any areas I will mix resin with talcum powder till its the consistency of tooth paste. The talcum powder allows you to create ridges and other things to disguise gaps as well. If you have undercoat you can always prep it for painting and it will reveal any problems you might have with the joints.

Ken Chi Nok Ng

Some parts joints together with barely visible line even holding them in my hand, like the arms on hulks aren't even glued together yet but it doesn't shows much gaps on the joints and that's with the weight on the arm pulling it downward since there is no glue on the hulk yet at all.

Ken Chi Nok Ng

Hulk buster would be near impossible to sand with all the details but on the connecting areas most of them seems fairly smooth so brushing resin over and taking my time should do a nice job, there aren't much to fill in just a line really

Ken Chi Nok Ng

Spiderman right arm practically shows no evidence of them being glued together ?

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-29 10:07:31

I know the problems, it can be a pain. The model is super nice, look forward to seeing it finished. As a by the by depending on the piece, I have dipped parts in resin and hung them to drip dry so to speak allowing them to cure then in sunlight to mask joints with good success. You would have to try on some samples to see if it works for you. Grats on a super nice large print. Im looking forward to a larger printer to not have to piece things together..

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-29 10:10:39

Thanks ? yeah I will be saving for a larger sla when all this crisis is over, income drops dramatically this couple of weeks with almost everything closed, but I have been looking at larger sla and some are very ideal size for these figures, but some might still need to be piece together depending on posture, still better than so many pieces with a smaller print ?

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-29 10:12:23

By the way the background was printed on a custom built delta I pieced together myself with no auto leveling, I'm a manual guy and it works better for me ?

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-29 10:12:32

Agreed I have been looking at some youtube reviews of the elegoo saturn, impressive size.. Most things are shut here in AU nothing is open people inside the houses. Not much traffic on the roads either. Hopefully it all comes together soon.

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-29 10:15:09

Very much the same here, supermarket is open, people are generally not great drivers here but they still manage to drive at walking speed with just me behind them in the whole place that are actually moving ? and all I wanted was get in my house the sooner the better

Nikola Pijanac

I hear ya.

William Tatum
2020-03-29 10:45:31

Nikola Pijanac OMFG TY SO MUCH. I didn't know you could do that with resin and talcum powder.

Jeremiah Chetwood
2020-03-29 12:16:43

Where you get this at????

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-29 13:11:26

Willian your welcome, its an old trick people use with superglue and talcum powder as well to fill gaps. Just as a by the by I bought cheaply of ebay a 405nm laser something similar to this for the welding it works a treat and being a lot stronger than the standard 405nm pens. https://www.ebay.com.au/....../100m....../173389869910...... due to the strength of the laser be sure to wear protective glasses. Also when your sanding your models don't throw away the powder dust if you collect it you can use that in place of talcum powder as well. Resin is also great for mixing with wood dust from CnC projects that I do. Instead of using wood filler, that way I can achieve a natural colour of the timber. Sands well and when you apply a finish you wouldn't know if you didnt look exceptionally hard.

The print actually came out very clear but the bulb in the room must be reflecting the yellow on it, as it doesn't look yellow when rotating on the white screen

That looks great. Good job

How do you do it? ? my prints always end up turning foggy white ?

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-19 19:05:32

?

Matt Hooton
2020-03-19 19:21:46

Gotta say, I do the same, but yours is still looking slightly more yellow than mine do, I'm guessing you exposed the print more than I did to make it. they do look great clear though, and I agree, the coating for sure brings it out and helps it stay clear a little

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-19 19:35:02

I only do 8s at 0.05 layer

Matt Hooton
2020-03-19 19:35:41

Photon s? I think I used 9s on my original photon

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-19 19:36:09

yep

Matt Hooton
2020-03-19 19:36:45

I suspect you could even go lower then, S has much better uv :D

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-19 19:41:06

I've tried 6s seem better, looks clear when rotating it, strange, not sure about going lower, supports are really soft as it is

Matt Hooton
2020-03-19 19:42:28

Just thinking, it could also be from when you cured it, I only did it long enough for it not to be tacky, then sprayed the clear coat?

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-19 19:47:24

I didn't cure it, just sprayed it and it made it not tacky, just normal but still yellow looking at some angle

Anycubic clear, not so clear, not sure if it be wise to go lower than 6s, supports feel very soft already ?

I just did a clear print. I cured it for a short time then I dipped it in pledge floor wax.

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-18 07:34:56

what's your exposure length?

Jim Fuqua
2020-03-18 07:40:59

Ken Chi Nok Ng I did this at 12 sec

Jim Fuqua
2020-03-18 07:44:15

Ken Chi Nok Ng sorry I doubled check it was 10 s

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-18 07:57:44

? I don't know why mine came out slightly yellow so, but, it wasn't yellow untill after I washed it in soapy water after washing in IPA, it still looks like glass coming out the IPA till I rinse it in soapy water

Jim Fuqua
2020-03-18 08:38:49

Ken Chi Nok Ng it does that. Same as mine. It cleared up after I dunked it in pledge floor wax. You could also use clear gloss spray.

Ken Chi Nok Ng
2020-03-18 08:40:46

ah ok, I'll get some clear coat tomorrow, thanks

Only went through the 500ml free bottle, went to clean the tank to use the white, notice there is a tiny mark on the fep feels like is about to crack any time soon, plus many other marks on it that I can feel with my finger, so I swapped out the fep.

Was in the process of testing dimensions accuracy with different exposure time, as I noticed the part aren't very dimensionally accurate so can't exactly build a model from the prints, after switching to white, it seems the white sticks much better to the plate than the green with the same print settings, all good ? , as long as it doesn't tear the fep when lifting, it now sounds its sticking much much better, I did use a bottle cap but that's after I put 2 screws down, one opposite to the other, not fully tighten till I put the cap in center, there was plenty loose before mounted on to the vat so hopefully I done that right, it's tight with some stretch after fitting to vat.

The reason I know it is stick much much better to the plate because I forgot AA was only on 1 when I sliced the model, so stopped it on 2nd layer to reprint with AA on 8,and it was a mission to get the 0.1mm of a print off the plate where as it was very easy with the green

interesting, while tried 7 times with these eyes, added supports in photon workshop then slice, 7 times with various settings on bottom and normal exposure, no luck

though I try adding supports in meshmixer and just slicer with standard setting, bingo... so whats the problem here ?

at least I got it to print now :)
