How coarse can you go with the layer height on these little printers?
Ive just finished a Terminator head at 0.1mm and I cant see any layer lines at all, only lines left on the side from what I assume is the LCD resolution. Just wondering if anyone prints at 0.2mm

Many thanks for the add, this is my first post. New to all of this and purchased a couple of Photons to play with so been experimenting with different resins and models etc. I really like the skin colour Anycubic resin and works well for me. I had a Z wobble on both my printers but after dismantle and tweaking they are perfect now, just annoyed to see that the Photon S version came onto the market with the dual Z axis supports 2 weeks after I bought mt two older models.
Been playing over the weekend with some SLA 3D printing. TREX bust anyone. Also tried a larger size in PLA plastic at a medium resolution print. The SLA prints are awesome and flawless.

Hi,

I am on the fence about buying an SLA/DLP printer. I have been using an FDM printer since 2014 and I am really used to larger printing areas (200x200x200), so a lot of the SLA printers on the market don't really fulfill my needs (I'd at least need 125x125x150). The Photon and Photon S seems to be on the smaller side, especially due to the Y axis being around 65 mm. While 65 mm might be enough for printing figures, it is definitley too small for my area of interst, which is printing medical models. There are some larger DLP printers, wherethe Y axis is around 110-120 mm, but they still use 2K screens, so the XY resolution is worse.

My questions:
1) Does Anycubic plan (announced) on releasing a printer with a larger printing area, without loss of resolution?
2) Is the loss of resolution that discernible on prints if you buy a 8.9 inch LCD printer?
3) Do you think 4K LCD monitors will be affordable in near future (mid/end 2019) so that larger area printers with high resolution printing would be affordable contenders in the market? (by affordable I mean less than 1300 USD, as this is the limit if you want to import an item as a citizen. Over 1300 USD, you need to be a corporation and import it with commercial taxes, which is very very expensive).

Thanks

Have you ever tried printing at 0.01?
I need to make some extremely detailed molds and I need the best possible z-axis resolution...
If so, how much do you increase the exposure from 0.025? I've tried to look but there is no exposure test print available on the github tests prints.
Thank you!

2nd 3D print is on. Quick little one.
Also learnt that you cure before removing off supports. Chitubox seems much better to use than the photon’s own. But does require setting up. Here’s the link of what’s in the printer.
Anthony , here’s the resolution level, can just see print layers. Should be invisible once painted.

Heya Photon Fans. Time for another installment of "Adventures in Photon Chainmail".

Today's project, printing joiner pieces to connect swatches. At the moment, all the swatches on my Thingiverse have solid ring edges. I did a little test knit last week, and joined two swatches by clipping some of the rings, knitting the swatches together, then re-joining the rings with resin spots.

That process was an absolute pain in the backside, and of the 15 rings I attempted to cut and rejoin, only 12 were successful. I've been working on modelling up some dedicated joiner pieces that are printed with gaps in the rings ahead of time. That way I can just weave them into a 'standard' swatch, zap the gaps in the rings, and away I go.

Today's results - 11/10. More successful than I was possibly hoping for. I printed up two types of joiner for the hex mail pattern. One's just a single link where all 6 rings are broken. The other joiner is a line of links, solidly connected to each other, but with open rings on the top and bottom. I've put about a 0.5mm gap in the top of each open ring, with a 30 degree chamfer on it to make things easier to slide in.

I printed off two of the long strips, and a handful of the single joiners, and got to work testing. I specifically used red resin for the patching and blue for the parts, so it's clear where the patches are and where the base part is. I snipped off a 5-link length from one of the chains, and spliced in 4 of the single-link joiners along the top.

The results kind of speak for themselves. The size of the gaps is absolutely perfect for a little bead of resin to fill them in when applied with a paintbrush. The first few I did (on the left hand side) I was over cautious and didn't get quite enough resin on there. The rest of them I picked up a good-sized drop and they came out perfectly!

Next test, printing off a few more swatches and a few more joiners, probably in different colours, and targeting producing a mousepad-sized swatch in an interesting patchwork layup. to see how that works out.

This is also a big step in the longer-run project to produce printed resin bracelets, since I'll now be able to print off some sort of clip/latch arrangement, and easily stitch it onto the end of a run of mail which I can cut-to-fit the recipient.

(Oh, and if anyone's wondering why the joiner pieces look so smooth in the slicer, it's because the STLs were exported at obscenely high resolution. The 10-link long joiner strip is a 129Mb STL. I think I may want to re-export them before adding them to Thingiverse.....)

Hey folks, I am having issues where the build plate stops rising but the printer keeps on printing and the screen shows a completed print.

It's an intermittent problem and whenever I think I've solved it it happens again and I'm not only getting frustrated but I am wasting a ton of resin.

It's happening on all resolutions and also with several objects on the plate as well as just a single one.

Auto supports and manual supports, Photon slicer and Chitubox. I've leveled the build plate multiple times.

I've used a quality USB stick of 8GB. I'm really at a loss.

Any suggestions on what I should do for troubleshooting?

Anybody have any real-world feedback on the actual minimum x-y resolution of engraved features? I know the pixel size is around 0.047mm squared if I remember correctly more or less. However, I assume that light bleed prevents getting engraved features that will actually show at that width.

If not I may just have to run some test prints. Just hoping to get it done right with the first design iteration.

Please help me if I am reading the exposure test correctly. I did a slow-resin test file - resin-test-50u.B150.6-60.photon. I want to print at 0.1 layer resolution. Column 3 is the first one giving me ok looking results for the top bubbles corresponding to 0.1 layer resolution. Then I multiply by 6, giving me 18 sec minimum exposure. Looks like if I print with exposure 18-20 it should be good? Don't want to waste the expensive resin, so would like to get it right.
