I just received my photon s yesterday and followed the instructions to set it up properly. I didn’t want to print the test file the USB stick came with so I tried printing a storm trooper helmet and it failed. After that failed I updated to the new software found on the anycubic website and ever since my machine doesn’t recognize stl files anymore, only psw files. I want to know if there is a way I can make my machine read stl files again. Any advice / suggestions help.

A bit of advice please

First of all- blown away with the photon- had for 2 weeks and gone through 1l grey gloop with lots of successful prints

I’m pretty sure my lcd screen has some resin/baked cured onto it
There’s some mild roughness to touch and my last 2 prints have had a very mild print error in what looks like a corresponding area

Is that likely that 1-2mm
Resin under the vat is interfering with the print
( I would assume it’s absorbing/interfering with the UV light getting to the print surface??)

And the instructions say alcohol on a cloth but so far that hasn’t got it off

How hard can I remove
Any advice how if a wash with IPA isn’t working ?

Many thanks in anticipation

Ok, so now i's time for my first real learning-experiense.

Yesterday I printed the Anycubic grid-cube, which came out perfect, so the machine works and is levelled correctly.
Today I went for this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3981668
Passive coal filter for my Photon, and that came out as you'll see below.

The top surface in the middle picture, is the bottom layer. I levelled this with the build plate in my slicer, so did not angle my print. Didn't use any supports either, since the instructions in Thingiverse said it was not necessary.

First thing I notice is that a corner of the bottom layer had come loose from the build plate. After that, the entire box became warped, as in picture 2 and 3. The inside top and bottom surfaces of the box are flaky and layered, resembling Danish Pastry.

My print settings are as follows:
L Height: 0.05
Bottom L Count: 6
Exposure time: 10s
Bottom Exposure time: 75s
Light off delay: 0s
Bottom LoD: 0s
Bottom lift distance: 5mm
Lifting distance: 5mm
Bottom lift speed: 65 mm/min
Lifting speed: 65 mm/min
Retract speed: 150 mm/min

And I use Anycubic standard grey resin.

Any ideas?!? 翻譯年糕

I’m new to the group and new to 3D printing in general. I don’t have any specific hobbies where this may be helpful - but I have some ideas on things I would like to try.

I am running my first test print this morning. It’s sitting at 46% and seems to be working fine. However, things didn’t start off well.

I set everything up per the included instructions and 3D Print Farm’s leveling video. I put the resin in and hit print ... the build plate lowered into the vat and it started making a noise that I wouldn’t expect to be normal. It didn’t move up and down ... just stayed down making the noise. I don’t know how to explain it any other way than it made a sound like a push lawnmower motor would sound like. I know that sounds odd ... but that’s what it sounded like to me. I was concerned maybe the build plate was being pushed down against the FEP and the motor wasn’t stopping (again I did the leveling and z=0 process). I tried to record the sound but the fan was too loud to get a good audio clip. I stopped the print - turned off the machine - then turned back on and started the print again. It started right up and all seems to be working fine.

I know my description of the sound is odd ... but any input/ideas on maybe what happened? What I may have done wrong?

I still can’t see enough of the print to know if it’s coming out correct ... but it seems to be working fine.

I see this being asked a ton of times and I thought I was going to be the exception, apparently not. Got my photon S today, followed all the instructions in the https://www.anycubic.com/collections/anycubic-photon-3d-printers/products/anycubic-photon-s got the upgrades upgraded to version 3.4.1 and UI 2.6 but I am getting the "Failed to open File!" message when I try to print anything, photons, pws, whatever. Can someone help me please? 翻譯年糕

Hello, New... I just ordered the Photon (non-s) for super cheap. I'll be ordering resin and a few other things from Amazon shortly. This is all very foreign to me. I'm a huge mini painter, and own tons (which is what prompted me to order the 3d printer). I can't afford to keep spending retail prices for existing minis...

I've watched some setup videos, and reviews, and here I am... Still a bit confused about a few aspects of which I have no experience.

Few questions:

Venting is a must. I've existing 4" vent tubing to the exterior of my house (sitting unused for a vent hood I never installed). My plan is to purchase an inline fan (4" variety) and run the end of the vent hose to the back of the printer. I've seen some 4" flanges on Amazon cheap, similar to what I've seen people "printing" on other machines to use. Does this sound viable? How big is the rear vent area?

Slicing? I've no experience here. I just downloaded Chitubox? So I'll import files into this? and then do some modification to the files, put them onto a flash drive which I plug into the printer? Can someone link me to a good video or instructions on what is involved in prepping a file?

I'd like to print off models to use in D&D games, and have heard there's a ton of free content available. I'd like to create a "personal use" library of minis to print. Where do I look?

Lastly, I am planning to snag the Photon Anycubic resin, unless there's another suggestion?

Any other advice or directions would be greatly appreciated.

ps. I looked for some of the answers to these questions, but there was so much it became hard to find the answers in one place.

And to see where my minis will be used, check out the TV gaming table I built recently :)

Three different exposure tests using Anycubic White: 20um, 50um, and 100um at 2-20 seconds. Following the instructions to the best of my ability, I think my best settings are:

20um: 8 sec (column 4)

50um: 10 sec (column 5)

100um: 14 sec (column 7)

Am I reading this right? Which do you think are the right picks?

HI all! First post here having just pulled my first prints from the resin bath of my new Photon (basic, not S). Please can someone help a noob with some issues :-) I'm getting flaking on some of the near-horizontal surfaces. Any ideas why? The instructions suggest you empty the resin bath if you're not going to use it for more than two days. Do you also need to clean it with IPA? Just tipping the residue out leaves loads of drips I loaded a four little models into the default Photon slicer but only the two bigger ones printed out :-( There is no sign of the two smaller ones (not even any pieces left in the resin bath). Anyone else getting this?
Thanks all and much appreciated!!! 翻譯年糕
