A bit of post to do, but getting good results still from the Zero (not with Anycubic black resin, but others seem great). This is about 8cm tall and I'm curing for 2 minutes on the wash and cure. Is this enough forca model this size?

Good quality print. When I ordered my Photon Zero, I chose 2L of resin since they were charging $30/L. Both liters they sent me were AnyCubic black, so I wonder if I would have better results with a different resin.

Lee Rogers
2020-03-22 04:44:49

Jonathan Basseri it was weird, 3 other resins perfect, I just could not get the black to work. Have returned to amazon and going to try an elegoo black.

Jonathan Basseri
2020-03-22 04:45:50

Others have told me to maybe up the exposure time since it's more opaque than most resins. My last two prints game out alright, but I have aliasing problems I need to figure out. Clearly the Photon Zero can produce smooth outputs, so I need to experiment with settings.

Lee Rogers
2020-03-22 04:46:50

Jonathan Basseri yeah I tried 60, 80 and 100, different base layers, normal exposure, pulled my hair out in the end ? ?

some questions

Not including the cleaning curing process. would you consider the leveling and pre-printing process on a resin printer to be more or less finicky and tweeky like a fdm printer?

How would you consider the noise it makes during print. Can you hear it in the other room? Louder or quieter then an unmodded ender 3?

I am guessing anycubic resin works best on the photon s? Do certain colors print better then others?

Is it possible to print a thin tile like in this photo on a resin printer? Or would its weight most likely dislodge it during print?

2020-03-21 14:48:28

Pre is definitely easier imo

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-21 14:48:58

Noise is much less

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-21 14:49:21

I’ve used dozens of resins

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-21 14:50:02

Lithophane are awesome on resin and yes you can go thin but the model can declare where

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-21 14:50:52

The orientation needs to be modified often

Andrew Cameron
2020-03-21 14:58:04

John Chrapkowski orientation needs to be modified?

Andrew Cameron
2020-03-21 14:58:54

John Chrapkowski of the dozens are certain brands better, certain colors more cooperative? Do some cure better then others?

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-21 14:59:07

tilt the model to:
Reduce surface area of each print layer

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-21 14:59:45

for the resin brands, I’ve not had too many bad experiences except I am not a fan of the water washable

Andrew Cameron
2020-03-21 14:59:47

John Chrapkowski so doing a 12cmx12cm tile like I showed in the image would not work?

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-21 15:01:40

Andrew Cameron it’s very thin so I would print it like that. Many will say tilt it but for such a small cross section you’ll be fine. If you’re doing many, I would move them around for each print to reduce wear on the FEP ( clear plastic on the bottom of vat) in a specific spot

Andrew Cameron
2020-03-21 15:03:54

John Chrapkowski not sure what the fep is. you mean the fep film? How long does the average fep last?

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-21 15:06:55

fep is the clear plastic that the layer is cured on, if all goes well it’s pulled off and sticks to the rest of the model. Durability is variable but I’ve found it to be pretty good. Around 30-50 prints. Cost is a couple dollars to replace

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-21 15:08:31

as for colors, transparent generally are shorter cure times and therefore ‘easier’ I suppose maroon seems to be really difficult for some reason

Andrew Cameron
2020-03-21 15:09:45

John Chrapkowski where are you finding these for a couple dollars I am seeing around 15 - 35 a sheet on amazon

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-21 15:16:31

First page on amazon. So these are 4 or 5 packs. I get two per sheet so a 5 pack is 10 replacements. You can buy in bulk for more savings

What you're basically printing is something the Photons have been proven good a heap of times. It's a Lithopane. Hit the search box for the group with that key-word and you'll see what I mean.

r.e. resins, i.m.o. there are MUCH better resins than anyc ubic out there. I swear by Monocure Rapid 3d, but Sriraya (spelling?) also have a great rep. Treat resins just like you treat filaments. Sure you can probably buy the stuff with your printer's brand on the label, but it doesn't necesarily work any better with your printer than other stuff.

Andrew Cameron
2020-03-21 23:49:22

no this is just a terrain stl tile, not based on a photo not wanting to do lithopanes. Is the way I would have it angled on the bed an issue?

William Tatum
2020-03-21 23:51:25

Andrew Cameron not on my experience. I keep having my large bases fail. I've tried flat, upright, 20d degree off axis and 45 degree.

Andrew Cameron
2020-03-21 23:53:55

William Tatum you talking about printing something like the picture?

William Tatum
2020-03-22 00:02:45

Andrew Cameron yes. Largish, thinnish, flat structures for me warp, deform, or fail depending on plate orientation. Meanwhile my regular models, even large, but thick bits, do just fine.

It's the one area where I've had consistent failures.

Andrew Cameron
2020-03-22 00:05:24

crap. Back to the drawing board on the printer to buy. Wonder how people are getting thin lithopane prints without it warping then

Dear tech support: I use 'Shit-U-Box' for supports and hollowing, then take it to the Anycubic software for slicing. I am having some interesting glitches maybe? Check this out: So that large flat surface is directly on the buildplate, whats with all those dark spots? Also, one of my holes doesn't seem to be on the buildplate? What do you think?

Hey guys! I just try to print out my test cube and we’ll it looks like this. Is there any thoughts why it came out this way? I’m new to printing so I’m not sure how it when wrong. I set up every thing the way it showed me. I’m also using the anycubic basic grey resin.

Ben Brooks

Exposure settings champ. It is sliced to suit anycubic trans green. As you are running grey which is opaque, you will need to up exposures. Search for resin exposure test on thingiverse. Read it, study it. Then adjust the settings to suit your resin/machine. What grey is it?

Amy Baldwin
2020-03-21 11:30:23

Hi Damian ! I see you got your package. Not sure I have ever seen that particular failure.

Ben Brooks
2020-03-21 11:31:34

Sorry I just read it again. I would start your exposure 9secs per layer on normal.

Ben Brooks
2020-03-21 11:31:52

2020-03-21 12:35:52

What's the room temperature? Did you shake the resin well?

Damian Naquin
2020-03-21 12:48:23

Jonathan Basseri yes I did shake it well. The room temp was about 70-75

Jonathan Basseri
2020-03-21 15:58:24

Dang those both sound good to me

Sam Applegarth
2020-03-21 17:13:34

Exposure time, it looks like. For grey, I’d say 8-9 seconds a layer is a good place to start. Also, make sure your build plate is tightened and doesn’t wobble; give it a test jiggle before each print and retighten/level as needed.

Smith Hayward

Nick Neal true, but can the truckers get through, many states closed rest stops, repair shops, restaurants drive through only.

Theodore Peckler idk about repair shops but most everything is still open out here they just stopped dine in. Most restaurants, chains at least, are open and doing take out only. I saw plenty of semi trucks on the freeway today and all of my shipments continue to track their way through the state.

Theodore Peckler

Neal Conway

So you've ordered a Chinese-made Item . . . . From China? I say 'from China' cos it's almost a 100% certainty that US stocks are all but depleted at this stage of the proceedings.

I'm in the UK and it took 10 days to get One Litre that was less than 600 miles and 2 countries away.

Nick Neal
2020-03-21 14:01:56

Theodore Peckler my shipments do that even when the world isn't ending haha. I've had stuff come in to the state, then go to Colorado, then come back to California. Regardless, nothing in any of them is of any importance. If it's late it's late.

So I need some help! I’ve tried printing this about 5 times now. Always the same thing.

I printed with Anycubic green, it failed, I went in re levelled and set home, checked the supports and printed again.. fail.

Re levelled, erased my USB key, resliced and even ran it through the file validatior. It said that unsupported islands found in layer 60 and 279 ( no idea what that even means or how to fix ) I saved and tried the print again. Fail

Need some help please what can I do.

So I was using Elegoo Grey and was able to print with tiny contact diameters on the supports. This was based on a video explaining supports...it worked for him and worked for me at first.

I swapped to AnyCubic Green and had similar problems. My contact diameters are now both .22 for my heavy supports, and only slightly lower for the light ones. My printing got immediately better.

You need to tilt the seats 20 deg. I like to use a good amount of heavy supports and pin all the details with the smaller ones.

This maybe a stupid question...can you get dodgy bottles of resin?
I have a bottle of grey and black anycubic and a bottle of elegoo clear blue. All recommendations the same 60/8 seconds. This is what I have set out to in the slicer. was using the Anycubic grey and getting great results (pic 1). I then switched to the black Anycubic (same settings) to print a simple base for a model. I've tried upright, 45 degrees, flat, all raised on supports etc but 5 failed prints. Either supports breaking, not sticking to build plate, but mostly resin forming on the FEP which I've had to empty and peel off (pic 2 and 3).
I thought it was the screen so swapped to translucent blue, exactly the same settings, could see the screen working through the resin , and it printed a random print perfectly first go (last pics) ?‍♂️ what's going on with this black resin?
