Hi, does anyone know why I get this on every print? My prints themselves turn out fine but I get resin stuck to my FEP after every print which means I have to drain the vat and scrape the FEP after every print. Seems like something is off.

Maybe your FEP is damaged/dented.

If your prints turn out fine but you still get stuck resin, my guess would be you’ve got some small unsupported islands that are curing to the fep but not affecting the overall model. That or lcd failure, but then you’d likely see issues in the actual prints.

This is a brand new FEP. First time it was used.

Dan Gump

could be this unsupported islands hypothesis. I'll prepare a new file. I do create all my supports in Prusa.

Kamil Bartosz Bilski no need to download this.
You have one built in.
It's the detection test.
Light up the full plate and you are done. Just peel the debris after

Ivan Adhi R well that is partially true. I do not how it is in new photons, but my one (little bit older) had uv detection test that not covers whole screen.

Hi, because resin is getting more expensive I’m looking at my supports and was wondering if there is a way to decrease my thickness. I use Prusa supports and couldn’t find a setting there to decrease the thickness of them. Any suggestions?

It’s a lot of material to throw away.

You are flirting with failed prints. And that is the biggest waste of resin.

Christopher Hayes
2020-03-28 22:34:33

You can set the thickness of the supports, along with all their other settings, by going on the right side of the program, it will show "Pad,Supports" under the stl, and you can right click on that and choose the settings you want to modify. That said, the thinner your supports, the more likely they will let go due to suction from the prints for a failure.

Sean Smith
2020-03-28 22:59:36

Failures create more waste than successes do because you have to use twice as much resin.

Making supports thinner increases the liklihood of failed prints.

Just make sure you add enough support so you only have to print something once.

Unless of course it is something you are making multiples of I guess.

Scott Pavlich

Get rid of the raft and keep your support bases to 1.5mm thickness

Hi, new development. After every print my FEP looks like this. My prints are coming out good but I have to drain and scrape the FEP now after EVERY print. Nothing has changed with my print settings. Any ideas?

So when hollowing models does the inside of the model need to cure? And if so, how? A buddy asked me to print him a bunch of this little floating demon and damn if they don’t drain the vat. With Amazon being slow to ship me resin (April 23 delivery) I need to be as frugal as I can with it.

For this guy was thinking of hollowing it and putting a drain hold where the peg goes of course but was also thinking of putting a much larger drain hole in the mouth. Thoughts?

因為這個傢伙考慮把它挖洞, 把水管放在那個地方, 當然, 但也考慮在嘴裡放一個更大的排水洞. 想法?

I use like 3 or 4 holes. In places where no one sees it.

Are you using transparent resin?

Some use a single uv led and put into the hole

Yes, uncured resin can hide in hollowed prints and creep out later with not so nice results. I always include at least 2 of the largest holes that will fit in the bottom of the print. After washing, I use a pair of curved tweezers to clean out as many interior supports as possible and a 100 cc syringe of cleaning solution to hose out the interior, paying particular attention to any corners or pockets where uncured resin might lurk. When curing, I try to turn the print at least once to expose the bottom to UV light and allow as much as possible into the interior. Finally, if I'm still uncertain about how much the interior needs UV exposure, I use a small UV light inserted in one or both holes to further cure.

Hi, one of my printers has started acting up again.

I have 2 Photon printers. Both are around the same age but the one that gives me issues from time to time is a month older. I set it up this year in January. I started having issues with it a week or so ago where every time that I printed something I’d have to clean the resin vat. There was always some sort of artifact in there stuck to the FEP film. So in between prints I’d drain the vat, scrape off anything that needed to be scraped off, cleaned with IPA and started a new print.

I decided yesterday I’d check the FEP tension as there were some screws on the bottom that looked loose. I found the tension was at about 190hz to I tightened to around 300hz and printed again last night.

Needless to say my print was not good. ?

Seems like I had these issues before and I swapped out the FEP film and everything went back to normal. I can try that again but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.

As you can see in the pics there is a lot of extra resin everywhere (especially near the bottom) but I am still getting some nice crisp details. That picture with the space ships the middle model is pretty much destroyed.

Both my printers print the same files. They are on the same firmware and right next to each other.

I do plan on swapping out the film tonight but wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas. Is it normal that the FEP becomes looser after use?

Hi, I've been printing out nice prints on my Photon printer for a couple of months now but I've recently started printing things that connect together. Like parts fitting inside other parts. I noticed when I print these even though they look nice the parts do not fit together without some extensive modifications to them. Others printing the same thing are not experiencing these issues so I wanted to post here and see if it is possible I am overexposing or underexposing my prints thus causing them not to fit well together. I'm using Elegoo gray resin with 15 second layers. Thanks!

Hi, for setting the Z position for the Anycubic Photon I've seen conflicting information. I use the paper method. Do I lower the build plate until I can't push the paper in, tighten the grub screw and then set my Z position or so I lower the build plate until I can't push the paper in, tighten my grub screw, move the build plate up .3 mm and then set my Z position?

I’m about ready to throw this printer out a window. I have 2 photon printers but one of them can’t get a good print to save my life. Have re-leveled using the flint reed and the paper method. No change in the print quality.

Was getting good prints with Elegoo grey resin but now nothing but crap. Model is pulling up from the build plate around the edges and it seems like the middle of my build plate the resin is thinner as well. Exact same photon file on one printer prints perfectly but the other one right next to it is just terrible. Is it possible I just have a bad component somewhere that is causing all of these issues.

Ran the exposure test and LCD looks good.

Hi, noob question here. Replaced my FEP a couple of weeks ago and didn’t “tune” but have been having shit prints. Today I decided to see where it was at hz wise and it was 198 peak hz. I tightened it a bit to about 315 hz. Just wondering if this could have been the cause of my crappy print issues.

Pics below for reference.
