now that my photon is up to date and running smoothly i decided to try one of those minifigs ;-)
all pictures are pre-curing.
supports were chitubox light with slight adjustments, some dragging around and deleting. after that i cleared a handfull of islands found in validator simply by hand..
print took 12,5 hours with druckwege type D grey resin at .05mm with 100s B and 22s per layer (as suggested by FEP-test).
i am really satisfied to see how it came out.. took some time to clean it because it is hollow and resin likes to stay in there, but after washing in ultrasonic cleaner several times and changing water every time until it didnt cloud up anymore i feel i got rid of most of the residue..

Hi all,

Hey all, as you can see I had a pretty major failure with this last piece I tried printing. Now I have some ideas about the gap in the arm at the bottom, (suggestions welcome anyway) but what I'm really curious about is this extra thin sheet of cured resin around the raft at the bottom of the supports. It's definitely not supposed to be there and I have never had this particular problem before. It removes easily, but I'm worried it might be part of the issue and I'd like to learn more about it.

I'm so happy with Benjamin Tam's sneaky boi. Printed in Polyjuice water washable resin at 0.05mm later height with his sneaky little bros in all their sneaky glory.

Thanks for the positive responses! To get it this clear, here's what I've done:

Slicing- do not hollow. Hollowing diffracts light passing through it (passing through 3 mediums: resin, air and resin) making the model appear more translucent.

Curing- one huge benefit of the water washable resin is that you don't need an UV light to cure which causes yellowing if your cure it for too long. I let the model air-dry for at least 24 hours before clear coating.

Clear coating- this is what turns the model translucent to clear. I use 2 coats automotive clear coat on all sides of the pieces and give it 48hours to dry before assembling. Extremely important: clear coat before gluing the pieces together as noncoated sides diffracts light reducing the transparency. This also has a positive side effect at reducing the yellowing if your prints come out slightly yellow.

Printing- the most important. Use fresh resin every time you print. Anyone who has printed using clear resin probably had a print already come out yellow. UV exposure over time in the vat will cause yellowing and I found that after 8-9hours in the vat, the remainder will start yellowing. Therefore I try to minimize the print time (0.05mm layer height + 10s exposure) by only using just enough resin to complete the print and refill the vat before the next one.

Hey everyone! I have a question. I have a “regular” 3D printer that uses PLA. Anycubic I3 Mega S and I love it but I want to get into resin printing, mainly because of this page. I’ve been following for quite a while and looking at all the amazing prints. My question is this: aside from the printer and resin what all do I need to get to start resin printing? I’ve seen people with huge vented boxes and these amazing curing boxes. I want to buy my printer this Friday and I’m going to want to start printing right away. I know I’ll be upset with myself if I can’t because I don’t have all the necessary accessories ?

Side note - I use casting resin to make items and there’s no smell but what I’ve read here printing resin has a strong odor?

Thanks for any help you guys can give this newbie!

Why does it seem so many people try to use their FEP right up to it's failure point? At worst you you pay like $8.30 for non-fep ($25 for 3) or at best pay about $3.50 3D fep ($19.95 for 8). It doesn't seem worth it to possibly destroy a screen, the glass or internals, or just waste resin.

I got a photon shortly before christmas. Just wanted to share that I've gotten 20+ prints off without a single failure. I'm sure that I got lucky in the quality control department. But these seem to be decent printers. I'm new to resin printing. Been doing fdm for 4 years maybe.
