Has anyone tried monocure gunmetal? Or does anyone have a favorite monocure resin?

翻譯年糕

Scott Pavlich
2020-03-24 11:28:49

I used to use quite a bit of it. It’s a good resin

Chad Elstad
2020-03-24 11:36:23

A lot of people like it. I use monocure rapid clear, and elegoo rapid grey mostly.

Chad Elstad
2020-03-24 11:36:50

Also. Adding 10% Monocure Flex 100 to my resins and it helps flexibility quite a bit.

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-24 11:36:56

Scott Pavlich seems to be the best deal atm in the 5 litre bottle

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-24 11:37:52

Chad Elstad oh nice, I will have to try that, hopefully swords and spears won't break as easy

Chad Elstad
2020-03-24 11:42:59

Vincent Balmont I think they will still break if you bend them enough at the 10% level, but with longer, slender parts they're definitely is more give and bendability.

Sam Bishop
2020-03-24 11:48:49

Gonna be testing my bottle of gunmetal over the coming week!
My fav so far is their rapid clear - pretty much flawless results :)

Scott Pavlich
2020-03-24 11:51:35

Its dark...while I loved it I had a few complaints that it was difficult to prime over: it wasn’t something I had a problem with personally...all mine primed fine. But I do actually still use it...but mixed 50/50 with Siraya white-abs: makes a super durable part that’s closer to the standard grays out there

David McGyver
2020-03-24 11:52:05

Their rapid blue is my absolute favourite. I don't paint, so any resin that looks that sexy with just a clear-coat gets my tick. It just gives you this gorgeous translucent crystal effect.

Scott Pavlich
2020-03-24 11:52:07

Sam Bishop I ❤️ their clear!!!

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-24 11:55:27

David McGyver got a photo of a print ?

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-24 11:55:47

Sam Bishop post pics when u do

David McGyver
2020-03-24 11:57:12

Not a recent one on my phone. I ran out of the blue ages ago, but promised my wife I wouldn't buy more resin until I was running low (My first resin order from monocure was 6L, I'm still working my way through it.)

I'll have a look at the shelf when I get home, see if I've got any nice old stuff I could share.

Sam Bishop
2020-03-24 12:01:49

David McGyver
2020-03-24 12:01:49

That said, all of their resins I've tried have been great i.m.o. I got started with the R,G,B 3-pack and the Black,White,Clear 3-pack, and haven't had any issues with any of the 6 so-far. Black's nice as-well, gives you a smoky crystal effect. I know I've got a baby groot in that at home, so I can share that for sure.

William Tatum
2020-03-24 12:26:12

I just picked up 3L of the gray to get me through the pandemic. I've never used this brand before.

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-24 12:29:06

David McGyver ill check the website, just the 5litre bottles seem the best value here atm

Benny Lu
2020-03-24 13:08:53

30% off most resin at 3dprinteruniverse.com including monocure if anyone is interested. Code is RESIN30 This is for US BTW

Phez Darryn Stanmore
2020-03-24 20:05:35

I'm a big fan of Monocure3D's Gray (just plain Gray) also if you buy from them directly grab a sample size bottle of resinaway to try that stuff is awesome!

Can u mix trans green, eco clear and gray?

翻譯年糕

Byron Taylor
2020-03-23 11:11:52

you CAN - I don't know what would happen if you did, though.

Stefan Giudici
2020-03-23 11:12:54

Yes

Miles Redman
2020-03-23 11:13:57

It would be slightly translucent in the way murky water is, lots of subsurface scattering, depending on the ratios

John Matthew
2020-03-23 11:17:09

I'm sure you can, though I'm not sure I would want to. That being said, though, I have a bottle of 'trash resin', basically filtered extras from other bottles and whatnot that aren't enough for a print and when I think my FEP is nearing the end of its life, I want to try printing with the mixture. Probably won't end well, but I think its good to try to save waste if I can, right?

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-23 12:39:19

John Matthew thats what I got now, about 50ml clear, 50ml green or less, just wanna add anough gray to get it to use it up

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-23 12:40:09

Miles Redman it would prob be 50% gray 30% clear 20% green on aguess from whats left in the bottles

Philip J Newman
2020-03-23 12:47:17

Post results ?
(I’ve mixed anycubic trans green and syra tech trans blue with no problem but never added an opaque

William Tatum
2020-03-23 13:26:55

I've mixed those and they do just fine. The green legs on the bottom are that blend

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-23 13:37:00

William Tatum awesome, not too bad, did u adjust exposure much ?

William Tatum
2020-03-23 13:38:09

Vincent Balmont I did. I was at 80 seconds for Gray and 60 seconds for Clear so I went for 70 for the hybrid. Seems to be doing ok.

William Tatum
2020-03-23 13:38:26

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-23 13:39:07

William Tatum ok good stuff, I guess depends on the ratio too, ill eyeball the mix and split the difference

Anyway to save the resin? I forgot to put drain holes

翻譯年糕

Rusty Welsch
2020-03-22 12:47:00

Those are likely to end up cracking anyways with that resin inside. May as well give it a shot at drilling them out somehow

Alexis Kosha Kondratzky
2020-03-22 12:47:17

You can always drill a hole in a part that won't be seen

Paul Yanzick
2020-03-22 12:48:02

Drill a hole

Chris Wolfe
2020-03-22 12:49:55

Drill carefully with eye/hand protection

Travis Callahan
2020-03-22 12:50:41

Drill ? that ? hole ? drill ? that ? hole. Sorry...flashing back to the 2016 election ? ? ? ?

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-22 12:51:44

Alexis Kosha Kondratzky ill give it a try. I don't have a really small drill bit at the moment though, I guess I'll have to strain the resin too

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-22 12:52:32

Rusty Welsch ill give it a whirl and hopefully I can save a few drops lol

Alek Idol
2020-03-22 12:53:24

When you drill, use a very small drill and step up gradually to bigger sizes

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-22 12:53:40

Chris Wolfe I can see it being a big mess lol, I'll do it over a plastic bag I guess and hope the bits don't shatter

Alexis Kosha Kondratzky
2020-03-22 12:54:34

Well, in case you end up with a bigger hole than expected, you can always use some of the resin you are saving to fill the hole again. Then sand it to make it look nice again. Did that with some figurines I printed and worked fine.

Ryan Tudor
2020-03-22 12:58:00

I doubt you'll be able to reuse the resin inside but if you manage to do it into filter and back into your bottle I'd say go for it.
Close the blinds on your window first tho.

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-22 12:58:37

Alexis Kosha Kondratzky that's a really good idea!

Josh Dalgliesh
2020-03-22 12:58:41

Depending on the thickness of the walls and the exposure times for the layers, I'd honestly skip the drill and use a knife with a sharp tip in a drill like fashion to make the holes. The resin should be soft enough that you can manually "drill" the holes with the blade and not crack it :)

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-22 13:01:50

Josh Dalgliesh I like this idea, I'll give that a whirl first

Alexis Kosha Kondratzky
2020-03-22 13:02:40

Vincent Balmont As usual, wear protection, gloves at least. I use a brush in a dark room and then go outside so the sun cures the resin. I usually repeat this a couple of times until the hole is filled. You can use a UV light as well I suppose

Nathan Kopp
2020-03-22 13:03:26

i use a dremel to tap into it

Josh Dalgliesh
2020-03-22 13:04:33

Yeah I literally had the issue today where my drain holes weren't quite large enough to flow freely properly so I had to widen them with a scalpel. I don't see why the same wouldn't work but starting from scratch. Having said that, my exposure times tend to be on the lower end so everything is nice and soft and easy to cut away any excess from the supports etc.

Robert Nisson
2020-03-22 13:46:41

Carefully drill

Josh Dalgliesh
2020-03-22 14:56:21

Vincent Balmont how did it go?

Nipuna Gunarathne
2020-03-22 15:45:54

Drill

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-22 16:11:30

Josh Dalgliesh good enough, used the tip of the knife on the corner of the box and wiggled it in

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-22 16:12:16

Dieter Bürgy
2020-03-22 19:15:46

Dont know how you did that. I never made holes in it and only a little bit resin was traped inside. Never this much

Michael Wood
2020-03-22 19:41:20

Drill holes and drain :) Just be slow and careful so as not to shatter the prints :D

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-22 22:45:28

not sure lol, i usually do holes but i forgot this time, never seen this happen before

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-22 22:45:58

managed to lift a corner of the box with a knife and drain it

Calico Deluca
2020-03-22 23:20:15

Kinda want to do that with some dice but I don’t know if that would mess with the balance of it

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-22 23:20:56

Calico Deluca I think 3d printed dice would be off balance no matter how u did it

Calico Deluca
2020-03-22 23:21:31

True, I guess

Adil Muschelewicz
2020-03-23 00:18:38

Drill 2 tiny holes. Let pour. Or Roto in front of a uv light to evenly cure to the edges.

Adil Muschelewicz
2020-03-23 00:19:19

You can always paint in more resin light cure it. To the tiny holes u dremmel. Then clear coat and it’ll be fine
