Couple weeks ago I asked if anybody knew how resilient resin was to acetone. I intended to use a resin print as a stand in an acetone vapor bath to vapor smooth ABS fdm prints. No one seemed to know but everyone seemed positive on this use case. I'm here to report back. It worked very well for 30 minute exposures. I used it to vapor smooth approximately 10 items so it was exposed to acetone vapor for approximately five hours with no signs of deterioration.

The last time I used it I put the airtight container away with the stand in it and it still had a little bit of acetone in the bottom. After a week of constant exposure (unintentional exposure) the print seems to have fallen apart. I can conclude short exposures to acetone shouldn't have too many negative effects but a prolonged exposure to acetone will cause the resin to deteriorate over time.

Elegoo grey printed on anycubic photon.

Using elegoo grey, first tried it at 10 sec exposure, and had over exposure issues, loss of detail and inflated supports bonding to model. Went down to 9, same issues. Been printing the Amerilabs calibration print at different settings, last one ran at 7 seconds and still getting signs of overexposure on the tests (slits being clogged and holes
not forming) . Is it possible for so much range in the setting super machine? Going down any further seems kinda crazy. Any thoughts?

Okay another odd question that as of yet I haven't found an answer too. UV cured resin and contact with the mouth, warm liquids etc. I ask because when the formlabs 1 and 2 first came out they had a print example shown of the top to a coffee thermos in action. From my understanding UV resin isn't food safe as the resin can cure unevenly.

Are their options that exist that allow for contact with the mouth etc?

Hi all. I have a slightly esoteric question about the long term toxicity of UV curing resins in aquariums. I know the uncured resin is toxic--as per the hazard labels--but once cured are these resins not essentially inert? For reference, I am not planning to print models for use in aquariums. I'm instead doing feeding experiments with fish and crabs and things in little 3D printed arenas (like this: https://twitter.com/DBarriosONei…/status/1123937633774776320 ). So far, there is no control mortality in 3 hour feeding trials with pollution tolerant intertidal animals like shore crabs and amphipods, but I'm looking to possibly do 1-3 day trails with more sensitive species, at which point the resin might become an issue. It would be useful to know whether anyone on here has experience resin printing things for their aquariums. I'm also using ABS/FDM for larger versions of these arenas and larger animals, but you can't beat DLP printing for sub 1 mm precision it seems.

Lessons learned on the road to printing a large figure. This may be interesting to other newcomers to resin printing as well, so I also included the screengrabs form Chitubox.

1.) Tried printing the head straight up instead of upside down. But there are so many strands of hair so it's difficult to support. To avoid damage I only used very light supports. As it seems, not enough supports. Many of the hair strands failed printing. Fortunately nothing got stuck to the fep. This is the second time I printed this head. To be honest, I'm at a loss as to which orientation I should use.

2.) The rest of the parts went quite well. but there's suction at the arm area. Again, I probably used too light supports.Maybe I'm fortunate that part still turned out the way it did.

I still have some long printing times coming up with the base and cape to print.

Pretty sure this is insane z-wobble. I recently adjusted my eccentric bearing and am assuming I made it too loose?

Just how tight am I supposed to have it?
If I tighten it any more than the rolling feels less smooth and is more chunky, but it's much tighter in the rail.

I currently have the bearing tightened to the point where it rolls extremely smoothly in the rail, but not so loose that it slides down on its own.

Should I ignore the non-smoothness when I tighten it more and just crank it to the point where it's absolutely rock solid?

Really starting to get discouraged with this machine, I'm outside of the return window and disappointed seeing as I know how capable it really is of amazing print quality.
