3d Printing info

First

Pick your machine and learn IT. Each are a little different even sometimes the same machine maybe different from another unit of the same name as these for the most part are not built by Large numbers.

Next pick a resin and stay with it as you learn your machine and how it works with that resin. Always take notes.

Use the same software on your prints try not to use more then one to out put your Print with as they may have different print reactions that you may or may not be able to control or know what to change.

Next your cleaning station.

Buy gloves and paper towels and cleaning supply.

Your cleaning tank or what ever you come up with.

Use the same cleaning supplies(MeanGreen / Isopropyl alcohol and so on)

I would use 3 tanks one just water for a quick rinse off then one with your choice of cleaner the one to rinse off with (water) before uv box.

Make sure the print is dry before you uv cure the final print.

I use a Professional Disposable Surface Disinfectant Super Sani-Cloth Wipes to last clean off before I uv cure the print. I do this to make sure there are NO SHINNY PARTS as that would me that there maybe be leftover resin on the print.

Next make or buy a UV curing station. Make sure you get one with room to GROW. so you do not buy another again. i use 6 UV led light strips in a foamcore box that I made that is 20x20x20 inches with a door. Great for those Big prints.

Next make a special trash can for your disposals. I bought a standard house trash can 18 gal plastic with a dome lid.Inside the dome lid I hooked up a UV LED light to cure any leftover resin on the paper towels and anything put inside the trash. It has an on / off switch but needs to run for about 1 hr or so after use to make sure it is all curved.

Next make sure you have a plan for all the waste and how to dispose of it the correct way.

I.E. The resin bottles and and trash so it does not end up in the wrong place and cause an issue if someone touches or any animal gets into it.

Make your plan for your printing and understand what could make the best print and the least waste. You will enjoy this hobby so much more if you just TAKE your time and do not be scared to ask questions. Each of us have learned from our own mistakes and the mistakes of others. We have also have to help each other about what we do with our machines and how to make the 3d print field better.

Just remember you WILL FAIL.. Your machine will BREAK... But you need to know why and how to make it back to the promise land of great printing.

Take photos keep notes on each machine. So you know all of what went on.

Like

How many hrs on the machine do to LCD failure and FEP failure and so on. Each machine has parts that have to be changed out.

So know your cost. It is more then just the resin. It is all you cleaning supplies/fep use/lcd wear/power use and so on.

So find out and know what the cost of these parts are and where to get them and how long will that take. Cause waiting 2 weeks for a part is a lot of down time. Keeping some parts in stock and ready for this is great but only do this if you use your machine alot rather then once a month.

This is only a base but it is a great way to start and look at what and how much your hobby will cost.

LAST............ JUST HAVE FUN....

Thanks

Michael Enoches

Lets print the World one piece at a time.

If you were to print large hex bases (50mm rounds can fit inside), would you print flat on the base to print faster and flatter or would you angle the builds to fit more on the plate?

The Skunkworx passes newest benchmark with seemingly little effort!
After what seems like months in redesign delay's and processing setbacks, the research and development department at area 52 at the now famous Skunkworx aeronautics modeling studios released a statement today on the recently released x20 Dyna-soar.
I spoke to lead engineer Robert Small today and he told me everything is actually progressing at a fairly quick rate given the unexpected and rapid rate of both changes and failures. It may not seem like it to you but to those of us behind the curtain it's a little like knowing we're winning an Olympic sprint all while stumbling over untied shoelaces!

Question for the experts. I recently discovered a dead spot on my LCD that is about a 5mm circle. I remember seeing someone had a solution to keep using the screen but marking it off somehow. Is there a file out there to print a numbered grid or something, so that I can set up models around the bad spot in chitubox? Any help is appreciated.

Hey all! I recently replaced the mainboard on my photon, and I've been struggling to get successful prints since. I noticed after a few failures that the build plate lifts out of the vat at a slower rate, before speeding up and continuing down for the next layer. As if there are two different speeds. Before replacing the mainboard, this didn't happen. What setting controls this, and how would I go about fixing it back to the way it was before?

Hello, what are your settings for the anycubic clear resin plz ?
I use 30s bottom layer, and 10s exposure.
But I can't get perfect prints...

Thank you.

WHOA. That was close. Didn't refil the vat after the previous completed print as i thought it should be plenty for the next print but that was a close one :D Model is fine btw. Nothing missing.

So I've had my anycubic photon for about a week now, and I've gotten most issues worked out. One problem I keep having is peeling. Unless I tuck the figures onto the back of the plate they start peeling off and warping the models.

I've currently got it set to 5.5s normal exposure, 55 bottom, 9 bottom layers, with anycubic green resin, .05mm layers. Plates leveled via paper method. Printing 28mm infantry models for war gaming. I can do about 5 without warping.

Anyone have any thought on what could cause that, and how to fix it? I'd love to be able to use the whole plate

Another issue I have is that I haven't been able to successfully print bases even once. I've tried on similar settings but every time they come out warped if they print at all. What usually happens is a handful of little resin mounds built up on the bottom of the vat

So I found an app on the Apple App Store just called “Capture”. It claimed to use the iPhone’s front facing true-depth camera to take 3D scans. So I got my friend Todd to sit still while I waved my iPhone all around the front half of his head. (I tried to scan myself, but couldn’t stay still enough while moving the iPhone). You have to upload the point cloud to their server, then download it to your pc as an obj or ply file. That then has to be processed in Meshlab and exported as an stl. What I got from that was not manifold and had flipped normals. So I brought it into Meshmixer and flipped the normals, then made it solid. Finally I brought it into 3D Builder (don’t judge) and gave it a squared off bottom and back. The last step was supporting it in Chitubox, slicing and printing on my Photon. (Yes it’s hollow, and there are drain holes in the bottom and back.)

It turned out better than I expected, considering all the software is free.

How is everyone backing up their files? I noticed that my current stash of stuff is verging on lotsa gigs. Are you paying for a monthly cloud service or multiple external drives?

I ask because I haven't cared in the past about my hardware failures but now that I have these files it kinda matters.

How much storage do you have?
