Anycubic Photon Printer Owners

So while the Anycubic Wash and Cure station is great i find the base container much too large for most of my prints. Have to fill it up with waaaaay more IPA then i would want to in order to wash smaller prints.

As such i was already looking to do my own smaller version when thanks to thingyverse i already found most of the parts that i needed as obviously other people had the same idea.

Used the base V2.1 from this design so that i could use the spare bearing that came with the machine.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4207439

Then took this propeller design and adjusted the underside so it would fit 2 10x2mm magnets.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3848077

Bought myself a Tefal 2L round container like this one:
https://www.tefal.co.uk/accessories-store/2-L-plastic-food-storage-container--Round-blue-K3023012/a/3100518175

Designed myself a custom strainer holder for the container to put the parts on.

And assembled it and glued in parts with a combination of superglue and resin.

And voila. A smaller container to use with the wash and cure.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4207439

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3848077

https://www.tefal.co.uk/accessories-store/2-L-plastic-food-storage-container--Round-blue-K3023012/a/3100518175

Cool!
Do the magnets need to be arranged North/South in a specific way? or it doesn t matter?

Gergely Jávor

Just place the magnets on the wash and cure area and they will flip automatically into the appropriate orientation. Then you know which way needs to be downward. They get triggered by the magnets below the surface.

A collection of the unfortunate moments and mishaps of Tom. This was another great and fun project. Models were based on the works of the Japanese artist Taku Inoue who has done lots and lots of these by hand (check him out on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/inouetable/?hl=en ).

As soon as i saw him doing these i hoped someone would translate these to 3D printable models and thankfully for a couple of designs someone on Cults website did.

So naturally i had to jump on the opportunity and print and paint these for myself as i loved Tom and Jerry as a kid and also as an adult :) Hope the 3D artist on Cults will do more in the future as Taku has done tons more and they are all great moments.

Printed on my Photon and painted with vallejo paints.

Took the plunge last week. Not sure how useful it will be but I wanted to have an all in one station instead of the several pots and curing setups I have all around my flat.

Going to pick mine up tomorrow.
I haven't figured out how to handle the resin-contaminated IPA though.
Any tips?

I just ordered mine last. I was wondering if it’s going to take awhile due to the quarantine?

I love the concept and that it's all in one. In fact, I bet it would take up a lot less space than my current setup. It would be a great way to show off the print as it's curing if you were at a show/event or something.

Christopher Fugate

I'm not excited about it. Its really just "it all stores in one place", considering the level of disassembly and re-assembly you have to do to make it switch modes. And its WAY too expensive for what it does when you can get a magnetic beaker stirrer for $30 and a solar powered turntable for under $10.

Just ordered one myself. My GF has been complaining about my wash and cure setup being in the way. So she so CANT be mad at the expense ?

15$ at walmart all i did was dull the blades and flattened them and put a screen to keep the models from falling in

Jason Pedersen

That's basically the only reason I'm considering it, would be nice to have everything contained. The bucket lid is a huge turnoff for me though, as I have everything in a cabinet right now.

They way you attach the print platform and adjust the height seems a little janky, I'd be interested to hear how that works in reality.

WHOA. That was close. Didn't refil the vat after the previous completed print as i thought it should be plenty for the next print but that was a close one :D Model is fine btw. Nothing missing.

So i have had a fume exhaust with a suction fan and a big active carbon filter container attached to my printer for a while since i am using the printer in my home. The fumes this way were barely noticeable using elegoo resin which is already less stinky then other resins BUT yesterday for whatever reason again there was a much more noticeable smell.

So now i have decided that i will find an enclosure and put the printer in that which will hopefully eliminate all the remaining leakage possibilities out of the printer for the fumes which i assume is causing the smell.

Since i do not have too much space to play around with it i looked at IKEA where i can find a suitable sized plastic container which according to the site seals airtight. I would cut out a part for the exhaust pipe to the active carbon filter and seal up the area between the box and the pipe to keep the airtight aspect of the box intact.

Anyone who has done something similar can share their experiences? Does it work to fully eliminate any remaining resin fume leakage? Anything to consider when doing an airtight enclosure like this?

Cheers

So i have a slicing/preparation type of question where i wonder how most of you deal with similar issues:

I use prusaslicer to autosupport my models then use validator and if necessary i also manually add some additional supports here or there. This works so-so depending on the model most of the times but certain times like today again i run into the issue that there are a few places where the support releases during print due to the forces i assume at certain smaller points. This in turn results in flattened deformed parts for a period of time after which maybe the print recovers and continues to print normally.

Now the generic answer would be use stronger/more supports however after the fact that is obviously clear but beforehand i have often no indication why certain territories would fail like this. I.e. the area in question was a new small island that was being started on top of a piece of support to which later on more supports would've connected. However for one reason or another the support for this area broke while on similar areas where arguably there were bigger pieces (not necessarily already connected to the main body) remained intact just fine.

Obiously after the fact and the fail i know what i need to do to make sure a second print would not fail again at the same place BUT how can i detect problematic areas like this beforehand and already add more supports on the first go? Validator does not help with this as stated above. Prusa autosupport said it would be fine.

I want to avoid to add tons of unecessary extra supports to the surface of my prints everywhere.

Or is it a total crapshoot for everyone else as well? Its always a bummer when after a 7h print you have a 90-95% perfect print apart from a few areas that were ruined by something like this.

Both printed in elegoo clear blue and painted with vallejo paints. Larger surfaces done with airbrush and the rest with brush.
