Okay so Discovery number one with the 3D resin printer when you're cleaning with your paper towels pay attention to the second cleaning you may do to your parts and the paper towels that you used if there's no resin in them straighten them out and let the isopropyl alcohol evaporate out you can reuse those towels this picture is all of the paper towels that I have been using since I started with this machine that is these only had isopropyl alcohol. And I have reused these paper towels over ten times now.

Created a little Batch file for windows users of VoxelOps

Simple pompt that asks you for the name of the source/destination/nr of layers

Added it to the project git already

Okay I give, I have to consult the hive mind on this one. I’ve had my photon for a few weeks and have got some good prints off it but I have a small reoccurring problem, my FEP seems to get just a layer or two of a small section of my prints every time I run the printer. Area that gets this is completely random. I’ve been through three FEP films and each time the same thing happens. The layer is too thin to actually get off of the FEP, I’ve tried everything from soaking isopropyl in it to gently scraping at it with a palette knife. It’s happened with the green included with the printer and with the maroon and black AC resins. I’ve also ran the exposure test on all of the resins and I’m fairly confident I have the exposures set right otherwise I’d assume my issue is under exposure. After my third FEP replacement I decided to ignore it and it backfired, the FEP tore on my last print right on the spot of one of these “layers” and leaked resin onto the screen. Anyone had issues like this or have any advice as to what this is? Setting for the print that caused the rip:0.025mm, 14s, 95s in the black AC resin

Hi I was watching a video created by anycubic on the use of the photon and cleaning the printed parts and they say they use high concentration ethanol. What do you think about the use of isopropyl alcohol? Because ethanol is almost 2 times cheaper

Long time FDM user, first time DLP/LCD user. My first print last night had issues, but "pretty sure" that it was due to user (my) error, unintentional/accidental bumping of printer while printing, although very very slight, that I thought wouldn't be an issue. I have tentatively determined that the slight vibration was the cause of issues as they occurred around the time where the errors, "shift in layers" can be seen. So, I have since moved printer to "MORE SOLID" table, cleaned the vat and restarted included test print a few minutes ago.

INITIAL THOUGHTS in general.

I love the build quality, good value for the money. I was a little concerned about the fumes that some have talked about, but actually not that bad... I have to really smell for it to notice.

I was very MUCH CONCERNED about how almost everyone said it was MESSY to work with.

I did not feel that way, as I was prepared with a clean work area, gloves, Isopropyl alcohol, scraper, tubs etc.

To be honest, if you are prepared and know what you need to do in advance, to tell someone it is a "messy" process is not and accurate statement in my opinion.

Sure you need to be neat, and clean as you go, but I found it very easy and smooth, and no mess at all. Not sure why all those Youtube videos are saying that is a messy process?

I am pleasantly surprised that it wasn't a (messy) issue for me. Just be prepared and move slowly and deliberately, no mess just steps that are different than those with FDM..

I guess if you spill the resin, get resin on your gloves then touch something other than a rag that is going right into the garbage, then yes that would be messy, but that is operator sloppiness.

So, if the cube prints properly this time, I will be 125% satisfied with this machine and the resin printing process as a whole.

Hey all, just got my Photon tonight and this will be my first foray into 3d printing. When I set my vat over the LCD I don't like how dirty it looks in the space between the LCD and the FEP film. What's the best way to clean those two surfaces? Just use a micro-fiber cloth dampened with Isopropyl? Any other tips for my first print I'll be trying this weekend?

Instructions for printing close-tolerance parts:

First step is see where you are at by printing my test-gauge set: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3325364

The most precise resins will allow the GO -0.1 pin to pass through the ring but the NOGO +0.1 should not go through. Any resin that can do that needs no further action. See list of resins already tested here:

https://docs.google.com/…/1yDwszgncTyOxvyJho6y1kxLJquH2GsfL…

If your print will only allow the GO -0.2 or GO -0.3 to pass through, then it is printing over-sized and needs corrective-action. I have worked with the developers to get two programs so far to offer this correction.

Method 1 (easy way): Buy Formware https://www.formware.co and set up a printer profile for that resin and put in the correction based on the gauge reading. So if the gauge would only allow GO -0.3 to pass, then use a value of 3 pixels or -0.15mm / -150 microns.

Method 2 (hard, but free): Go to this site and click on Clone or Download: https://github.com/Photonsters/VoxelsOps

Also download Node and install it: https://nodejs.org/en/download/

Select Download Zip and unzip it somewhere. Open a command-line shell and go to the directory that you unzipped it. Type commands 'npm i' then change directory to app, and do 'npm i' again.

Back out of apps, and go into directory helpers. There is a command called erode.js

Run this command with 'node erode -s yourphotonfile.photon -x 1 -y 1 -z 0 -d path-to-emty-dir-to-put-slices-into

Now go here and install PhotonFileEditor by following the instructions on that page:

https://github.com/Photonsters/PhotonFileEditor

Now load your original .photon file into the editor. Then import the slices that VoxelsOps generated. Then save out the photon file again.

That is all.

Future plans: Voxels Ops may get easier to use by writing photon files directly, so that PhotonFileEditor is not needed. And, PhotonOpenSlicer may end up having this horizontal size compensation, in which case it would just be a matter of saving your STl to a folder that PhotonOpenSlicer monitors and it would just automatically generate the photon file for you. Thirdly, ChiTuBox said they would add this feature to a future paid version.
