Prusa Slicers hollow function is so nice. Super accurate and smooth and you can edit it when you save the project file. Edit: you have to save the hollow as an stl, if you try to do a hollow then outo supports the inside gets filled with supports. If you save the hollow then do auto supports it works normally. Not great, but gettin there.

Purchased a model from Cults 3d but seem to have run into a possible issue. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/cyberpunk-2077-girl-android When I open most of the files in Chitubox the parts are a dark gray rather than the normal blue. When I tell it to slice the file it seems to only show the supports. Attached are couple of pictures to show what I am try to explain. thanks for any and all help.

So I am at a loss as to why the tunic is greyed out.
I got it from thingiverse. Seems no matter which slicer I use it's still that way. Can't put supports on it or anything. Can someone explain this to me.

Printed all these guys and Sandy at one time on the build plate with no supports. Found on cult3d. The creator has tons of no support figures on there from the Predator to Spongebob. I added 20% tenacious to my green so they would not damage removing from build plate. Normally without it they will. I use a wood chisel to remove them with.

What is happening here? The only difference between the first and the second is I switched the place of the models and moved them a little further out from the center. Since the support bases printed then parts above printed it can't be a dead spots. Would loose FEP cause this?

This maybe a stupid question...can you get dodgy bottles of resin?
I have a bottle of grey and black anycubic and a bottle of elegoo clear blue. All recommendations the same 60/8 seconds. This is what I have set out to in the slicer. was using the Anycubic grey and getting great results (pic 1). I then switched to the black Anycubic (same settings) to print a simple base for a model. I've tried upright, 45 degrees, flat, all raised on supports etc but 5 failed prints. Either supports breaking, not sticking to build plate, but mostly resin forming on the FEP which I've had to empty and peel off (pic 2 and 3).
I thought it was the screen so swapped to translucent blue, exactly the same settings, could see the screen working through the resin , and it printed a random print perfectly first go (last pics) ?‍♂️ what's going on with this black resin?

No cleanup on the models just removed supports. TJ Robichaux is a wizard with manual supports!

I just posted a load of pictures showing the 1/12 Caterham model I am doing using the photon to build a lot of scratch built parts, I wanted to show the roll bar separately, to illustrate something about supports. (scroll down for the pictures!)

For those of us using the photon for more 'engineered' or 'fitted' parts, a big issue can be the distortion you CAN get around the supports - wheels can be a bugger, as any rod, cylinder or rail can sometimes exhibit 'sagging' around the support bases. People always say 'print at an angle' - but this sometimes is not the answer - (I actually try and print as much as I can direct to the plate, as I have never had any issues.)

[I don't think the support marking issue is SUCH a big deal with the incrediable organic figures people show here, as it is easier to hide any sagging, if that makes sense]

Making the roll bar for the model would involve printing 'rod' - round section or about 4mm diameter. Single supports would work, but involves a lot of sanding to try and remove the distortion or pin-marks from those supports.

This post is really about thinking laterally with supports, and considering how they might work as you design the part in the CAD software.

So for these parts, I modeled a thin 'fin' and a base within the actual CAD file (as opposed to adding supports later) - this fin (less than 1mm) supported the roll bar along its whole length, and it was very easy to sand the linear fin off the part once cured.
