Update on yesterday's issue. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the LCD.

I ran a couple of smaller prints in the same resin, same settings etc and ended up with some gunk left in the vat. Partly cured weird lump directly above one of the parts in the centre of the bed. Ran another print making sure to leave the centre clear, still ended up with a lump of gunk.

Ran a very small print right in the centre, no gunk.

Then ran the base print again last night and woke up to this. Some very strange layers that cannot be a result of the print wobbling and a massive lump of gunk in the vat. It did make it a little further than the last print but only by about 8-10mm.

Any suggestion fine folks of the Anycubic group?

Have you checked it with photon validator?

Yes, every file I run goes through the validator. Nothing out of the ordinary on there.

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this for me.

Twice now this print has sort of stopped half way through. Part of the print has a clean line where the next layers haven't stuck but part of it seems to have tried. The rest of the print is then stuck to the FEP. This portion stayed on the build plate and the whole print is a uniform thickness the whole way up so I can't think of a reason why it's done this.

try to increase the support, the model is big anh heavey

Chris Carter

The supportes held just fine, to the build plate and to the model. Its the model that failed.

Also the base is hollow on the back and is only 1.6mm thick all the way along

The supports might've held but the model is terribly balanced. If gravity makes it flex some parts of the model won't get close enough to the fep and layers won't stick anymore. Try making a wider base and supports that support from side to side as well.

The thing you have missing there is a platform, yes you will use a little more resin but the small surface area of the supports is not really enough for the size of the model its trying to hold. The platform will have a larger surface area to vacuum to on the build platform, the supports become a part of the platform and will have more strength. If you Imagine a head of hair, the skull being the fep, the skin being build platform and if your lucky to have enough hair being the supports. If you dont want to build a platform, rather than print the model at 90deg. Lean the model towards the underside and rerun support, I think you could probably get away with a 15deg lean. You will get more supports. And last option is slice the platform and weld it together with resin and a UV pen light of some sort. Making 4 pieces will probably be less printing time than trying to build in one go.

The supports and platform are rock solid. There is zero signs of any wobble up until this point. Something happened at this layer that caused the rest to not adhere to it.

The base on the plate has a larger surface area than any of the subsequent layers.

Delaminaton is usually a sign of low exposure. But not sure that's what it is.

If you haven't messed with it since, check to see if your build plate is still level. Take the vat out and put a piece of paper down there. Move it till it engages the paper, and check all 4 corners.

Since it happened during a large cross section, the plate may have moved from suction forces. Usually you get a big layer line, but being that thin, it may have killed the whole print.

I'd suggest taking the build plate apart and cleaning the ball joint. Only takes a few minutes, including releveling the build plate after.

Yeah, the more I look, the more I think your plate shifted. The parts that kept trying all seem to be growing forward, instead of just up.

Rupert Dunn

Bisected model. Print 2 halves. Or you can keep trying to print the entire disc dangling like you think you supported it well enough, to which youd say you cant tilt it more.

Chris Carter over hang. You made over hang.

Fred Bey wrong. Look again. Rock isnt thicker.

Chris Carter

Can't print in 2 halves, the model needs to be printed in one piece

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-25 21:41:18

Chris i have to disagree, nothing has to be printed in one piece, everything can be sliced and then welded together.

Chris Carter
2020-03-25 21:44:38

Nikola Pijanac and I have to disagree with you. Some things, especially very detailed surfaces need to be printed in one piece. As welding them together will not keep the detail properly

Can anyone who sculpts with a graphics tablet please give me some recommendations for beginner level but not too cheap, I want it to last and be good but not pay through the nose for something I won't be using everyday.

Good brands? A good size to aim for?

Preferably from amazon but not required.

I'm looking to pick up a spare Vat for making resin changes easier, is there anything better out there than the official one?

Or a cheaper option to buy than £40 on Amazon? There is no rush so delivery time isn't neccesarily a priority.

Hey Photonsters, HELP PLEASE

I have been printing happily for a month now with no issues, not perfect prints but no major issues.

The printer was rested for a week and now when i'm trying to print i'm having some issues. I wanted to check my printer for z-wobble etc as i'm about to do some more precise prints so I ran the 'not a cube' test file from the group.

Disaster, the file printed but about half way up the printer appears to be curing sheets across the vat interconnected with the print. It left an ungodly mess on the FEP which I then tore trying to clean. Resin also appeared to seep under the FEP onto the screen and cure there too.

I changed the FEP, cleaned the screen etc and thought I was sorted. Also changed USB sticks and resliced the file.

The next attempt at the 'not a cube' was a similar fail but not quite as bad, the Vat also 'stuck' to the printer when trying to remove it. Although there is no residue underneath the vat or on the screen to account for anything sticking.

I cleaned up and thought i'd try a different file that I have succesfully printed before and I had the same problems, again not quite as bad but the problem is there.

Can anyone give any pointers or is it worth returning to Amazon and getting a fresh printer. As you can see from the photos the first half of the prints came out great (again not perfect but good enough for now) and the issues started higher up. As a chance both files are exactly the same number of layers so I would have though the error would come at the same height but apparently not.

Thanks in advance for any pointers

I wonder if I could borrow the collective intelligence of the group.

I am getting some extra lines at various levels on my prints. These 2 planters were printed at the same time and they both have additional lines not present on the file. The 2 larger areas appear to be a coarser line at regular intervals that I can't figure out and the smaller patch in the middle is quite messy but only appears on that side, not the other side at the same height.

Any ideas please.

Hey Guys, I wonder if you can help me out with something.

When I set up the supports in Photon Slicer there is a definite gap between the model and the support, however when the print is done some of the supports have joined to the model leaving ugly marks when cleaning it off. I'm talking about the stem of the support not the tip.

Could this be due to overexposure. I am using 12s standard layers on Anycubic Translucent Yellow. 0.05mm layer height.

Thanks

Can you guys help me read this. I'm thinking the 25um should be the 7 and the 50um should be 8-9. I would love some other opinions though
