photon or photon s? is it worth the 200 dollar difference?

Photon! Photon S is made from Plastic rather than Metal, got a smaller printvolume but got some Linear rails. But you can get a Linear rail Kit for the Photon on ebay for under 100 bucks so buy that and Save 100 bucks and get the higher quality maschine (edit: The S got a slightly bigger printvolume, I mixed that up)

From what I’ve gathered, not worth it.

cool ill just do a photon, thats what i have now but it broke so im looking for a new one so at least ill have an extra print bed and vat

Faster prints, higher build volume and more stable Z axis are the main differences. Then make your choice

Photon S has a larger print volume and a better UV light source

i have the s and i like it

Yeah you need to stop giving advice. The photon s has a stronger LED and dual rail plus a slightly larger print area. The plastic casing I really wouldn't care because I really don't plan on dropping the thing.

I’m thinking I would buy 2 photons....

well sorry that I mixed that up but If I pay for something I prefer to have a better build quality and I do get that with the standard photon. And I never had the problem with the Screen being to "weak" so I don´t see the point of going for the S

The led under the screen is stronger. Which means shorter exposure times = faster prints

Photon S has larger buid volume, prints faster, metal chases doesnt matter much, S is sturdy enough.

If it's a budget issue, or if you already have an OG Photon then great get another one, otherwise the Photon S wins every time.

Dual Z axis makes a huge different in print quality. I have had the Mars (with single Z axis) and now have 2 Photon S's. It really does make a difference.

I have an S. It’s a good machine. Stronger UV light. Better rails. The plastic case is Not an issue.
The main problem with the S is that they changed out the motherboard so it’s not an opensource Chitu board.

yeah but I doubt he can find original Photon with Chituboard. He will get Fauxton and Photon S > Fauxton.
Wayne Rogers

True. The original Chitu Photon is gone.
In that case, I think the S is the better machine. Except of course an Epax. That’s the best entry level resin printer right now

Upgrade firmware on new Photon or S (if it hasn't been done already from factory) and Chitubox will work fine. They fixed this months ago.

For a little more than a Photon S, I have a Photon and Sonic Mini. What are the exposure times per layer are you guys using for the Photon S at .05? My Photon is about 7-9 seconds, the Sonic Mini is about 2.4-2.6 seconds.

for 200usd no, get the plain photon, but if the difference is less than 100usd like when I got my S it had a difference of 50usd then get the S

I got the photon s for less than 300 so yes it’s clearly good

It's faster and less z wobble that you would probably spend to upgrade anyways

what about the difference of the time settings compared to the traditional one. I didn't get this rate, does someone get it
