Nearly finished my first bottle of anycubic grey

Reasons to try a different resin?
What are people favourite resin?

anycubic grey is my favorite. I do add a little sirya tenacious to it so its not so brittle.

I have now anycubic black and done the first testprints. They come out quit nice.

If you find a resin you like, that works for you, why fix what isn't broken? I've tried a number, not the Anycubic grey though, and I settled on Siraya Fast ABS-like grey, because it works for me in terms of quality, cost and availability. The only reason I'd change is if one of those factors changed.

Printed a thing that has threads but they don’t fit. I’ve been at it for nearly an hour sanding and trying to re fit. Exposure settings are what the exposure test gave me, don’t really fancy printing it again but for future is there anything I can do?

Real threads also have a little wiggle room to move, they can't be the exact same shape or they get stuck.

Andrew Steel
2020-03-22 02:04:44

A pic of the threads m+f would help diagnose the problem, show us A pic of the pre sliced item/s

Jeff Greenfield
2020-03-22 02:05:44

Run a tap and die over it... Or scale threads in program.

Leonardo Escovar Quintero
2020-03-22 02:07:28

Probably the original file need some tweaks for the fittings, depending on the piece you can scale it or even cutting the thread. Try meshmixer, there are a lot of free tutorials in youtube to learn, it's a very useful tool and it's free!

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-22 02:10:18

After much sanding it’s now fitting. I think there wasn’t enough wiggle, I have scaled this down as I didn’t need it all that big

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-22 02:10:35

Jeff Greenfield what’s a tap and die?

Jeff Greenfield
2020-03-22 02:13:49

Alex Bainbridge 60-Piece Master Tap and Die Set - Include Both SAE Inch and Metric Sizes, Coarse and Fine Threads | Essential Threading and Rethreading Tool Kit with Complete Accessories and Storage Case https://www.amazon.com/....../ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai......

Normally used in machine shops for cutting threads. This set should be ok for plastic and resins, I wouldn’t use them on steel unless I was really in a pinch. A real machine shop set would be at least 15x that price.

Peter Csaki
2020-03-22 02:18:53

You need overgrowth compensation for mechanical (correct sized) parts. Z-suite and prusa slicer are the two slicer I know of that can do it.

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-22 02:25:36

Peter Csaki I use prusa. I’ll give this a google to find out what’s what

Lane Shutt
2020-03-22 02:31:20

That wiggle room is a lot less than you would think.

Stefan Giudici
2020-03-22 02:53:28

How much did you compensate when printing? I usually shave about .2 off the thread side

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-22 02:55:45

Stefan Giudici I didn’t do anything but print it. Never printed threads so didnt know ? how do you shave off?

Paul Carress
2020-03-22 03:03:59

Tap and die set

Peter Csaki
2020-03-22 03:31:20

Alex Bainbridge Only if you slice it with it.

Steve Stagg
2020-03-22 03:42:07

Did you also print the thing it screws into?

Stefan Giudici
2020-03-22 03:50:51

I make the outside diameter of the part that will have threads .2 smaller before I apply the threads

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-22 04:10:55

Peter Csaki ahh, that I don’t do as I use chitu. Maybe it’s time to keep it all in prusa

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-22 04:11:45

Stefan Giudici I didn’t design this model it’s off thingiverse. I assume you’re designing with the apply the threads comment?

I’ve had some really nice prints for a good while
Now and then this happens. I did top up the vat but it was only a small amount and it’s never done this before. Thankfully i should be able to save it / cover any horrible stuff with some milliput for a nice ergonomic handle ?

EDIT: system photon 5.5
Version 4.2.18 f2.7 whatever the F means ??

I think your LCD screen may be dying. Mine does the same thing and I just ordered a replacement.

Alex Bainbridge

Siva-Jack Sernvongsat I’ve not even gone through a single bottle of resin yet ?‍♂️ already replaced the board due to it being faulty

Chris Jeanneret
2020-03-21 03:01:49

did you update the firmnware? fixed it for me

Richard Humble
2020-03-21 03:08:02

Frame shearing. Firmware update needed

Keith Yinger
2020-03-21 03:19:57

By no means an expert here but it looks a lot like what mine was doing a couple weeks ago. It would be just fine for the first 50 to 75 layers then things would start getting glitchy about every 25 to 30 layers or so. I would end up with prints that lo ok like this. Mine was only three and a half months old at the time. Seemed a bit early for the LCD to be dying. 1 month seems way early to me but it looks a lot like the same issue.

Keith Yinger
2020-03-21 03:21:36

I would just take vat out and the plate off and let it run a print while you sit and watch. It was about 40 minutes in before I finally caught this on mine. At the time it was just supposed to be printing two 1-inch squares, not that junk that it's displaying.

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-21 03:27:12

Chris Jeanneret can’t remember what version I’m on but I’ve been printing fine on the same version for about a month with no issues

Chris Jeanneret
2020-03-21 03:29:07

Alex Bainbridge i had the same. was fine for months then out of nowhere boom... same as you

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-21 03:31:32

Chris Jeanneret well thats bullshit ? updated the post with firmware etc

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-21 03:32:49

Keith Yinger yeah, it was a 7 hour print and happened about 5 hours in. Don’t fancy waiting that long ?

Keith Yinger
2020-03-21 03:36:15

ya. It looks like it was quite a ways up into the print :(
It is strange that they work right for a while and then just start glitching out. I just kind of guessed that when the screen was going bad, that it was going bad and it would be glitchy from the very beginning. I guess that's not always the case though.

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-21 03:37:26

Keith Yinger yeah right weird. It did have a moment early in in the print where it didn’t like the usb by the looks of it but then it carried on. I’ll use a new stick from now on just incase

Keith Yinger
2020-03-21 03:39:36

Probably a good idea just to test that and make sure. I know I tried four different items on two different USB sticks on mine and it was doing the same thing no matter what. So I kind of guessed it had to be the screen. At least I hoped it was the screen and not something else. Couldn't imagine that two separate USB sticks died at the exact same time anyways.

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-21 03:40:48

Keith Yinger I’m not ruling anything out tbh. I just hope it was a one off

Nathan Kopp
2020-03-21 04:17:11

frame shearing. caused by firmware or usb stick failure

Chris Page
2020-03-21 04:46:06

Snap! I just printed one of these on my ender

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-21 04:46:59

Nathan Kopp there was an issue early in the print from the usb, memory error or something happened twice and then was fine for 5 hours before this issue

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-21 04:47:36

Chris Page nice! I’ve actually scaled the 5mm down so it’s even smaller ?

Nathan Kopp
2020-03-21 05:05:45

yup had the same issue. replaced the key with a new one from walmart, no issue afterwards. also firmware update will cause this

Alex Bainbridge
2020-03-21 05:08:36

Nathan Kopp I read somewhere that 4.2.19 wasn’t stable though?

Nathan Kopp
2020-03-21 05:09:56

idk had same issue updated for my machine and fixed the problem. ive been printing for 72 hours straight atm making scatter for a dnd inn no issues since i fixed those issues 4 months ago

Lithoplanes.
What thickness can they go down to?
Does it matter what resin you use?
How bright should the light be behind it for it to be effective?

Thought I’d test how small I could make things so I can put them in clear resin for jewellery (because I need another hobby ?‍♂️ ) HP logo, gringots bank, Korean temple? And a tiny Buddha. He’s probably too small tbh

Still can’t get over the details on this

Just spent 20 minutes trying to find an island on layer 318 after validator spotted it

Just for me to realise that prusa wasn’t set to 0.4 but chitu was when I sliced it ?‍♂️

EDIT: turns out even both at 0.4 it’s still off by 6 layers. Unsure if this is because I changed prusa after doing supports and exporting but it’s now causing some pain

You know, in the latest photon file validator, you can locate the island, click it in the preview and it gives you a zoomed in view, where you can left click to add pixels and right click to remove pixels....
If the auto fix it doesnt work I do it manually, and if you remove something that is supporting a higher layer, that layer will then show up with an error for you to correct.

Planning on using a fairly large piece multiple times for a 40k army. I’m thinking I should print the bits needed, make mould and then use the moulds.

Can someone point me in the direction of what I’d actually need to do and what materials I might need.
For clarity it’s mainly wheels and frames which woo be built on layer if that makes any difference

I’m thinking of doing some kind of clear resin craft thing. As you can see I’ve thought about this well ? anyway, i found this video that’s somewhat close to what I want to achieve.

Can this be done with clear resin that’s suitable for printing as well?
