I once again am here asking for your help, I really have no idea how to print this. I have printed in every way except for having it straight up as I do not want to spend that much time on one print. As well if i lay it face down it creates cracks where the resin can not flow in quick enough to fill every spot of the model.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also this is the face plate for a maker knife. Oh and when i print it in any way with supports it ends up not being able to pull off the supports and the plate together and leaves the plate on the build plate and separates the supports

You can increase the off time in the setting to have more time for the resin to settle.

I would try putting this face flat on the build plate, then running support trees up each side. I don't have Prusa slicer installed at work at the moment, so I can't whip up a proper sample of what I mean, but I'll be happy to show you what I'm thinking when I get home this-evening.

More Z lift and lots of off time! Should help

David McGyver
2020-03-31 06:08:26

Oh, and the op I'm thinking of is trivial to do the supporting for in Prusa, and a pain in the ass to do on ChiTu or the Anycubic slicer.

With all the failed prints you’ve had you could have already printed multiplies of these standing straight up.

David McGyver
2020-03-31 06:12:22

If you can PM me the STL I'll try and get Prusa slicer installed at work actually. Kinda quiet at the moment, can probably get some cheeky moonlighting in ;)

Printing your own version of a Maker Knife?

I wanted to post that meme but I didn't think a version of it existed lol, also sounds good to increase the flow of time. If I can figure that out and I will try using that front part as the flat surface. Thanks everyone :) Also this will just be the face plate not the whole thing though there is a version that was made for 3d printing that I had printed out multiple times

Travis Lewis every large surface that runs parallel to the FEP in your VAT will create a large force pulling it off the buildplate.
Strong enough to pull the build off the supports too.

Lift 1 corner up say, 25 degrees or print it vertical.
Then the supports will do their work, provided you placed enough and large enough supports.

Maybe a resin printer isn't the best tool for the job. An FDM printer or using a laser cutter might work better?

Travis Lewis
2020-04-01 06:33:55

Honestly probably would have been better to make it out of acrylic, though I do not have any and I wanted it to be see through so fdm wasn't that viable. As well I finally got it to print though probably took a chunk of my screens life with it, I had t o make the exposure time to 50 secs per layer and turned down the lift to 15. I know probably not the right way but it turned out great! Also thank you for everyone that has commented :)

This is why it's important to diversify one's maker portfolio. I would definitely print this part FDM.

David McGyver I like your selection of angle. The edge is good place for lots of med/heavy supports and some random light ones along the sides.

David McGyver
2020-04-01 10:02:26

My plan is slightly more sneaky that that to help get the print time down. If you PM me the STL, I'll throw something quick together in Prusa slicer to show you what I mean... ;)

David McGyver

I'm assuming that face is flat by the way...

I wanted to make this post to share/ ask about what i just found on ebay. I found that you could buy a 5L bottle of 99.9% ipa for 10 usd, and well I was shocked (also shocked to see the price of the 32ounce bottles, price gouging wtf) . So I was curious has anyone else bought these ones on ebay and was it as advertised? For some reason I find it hard to believe that you can buy 5L for just 10 bucks lol, especially with the price gouging going on now

my normal stockist is 5 pounds a litre you can now only buy at 25 pounds. tbh i just stopped printing the health service needs it more then me.

I bought this off eBay, £10 for 5 litres. The day after I bought it the bad feedback started showing up. Needless to say it didn’t arrive so Ebay was informed. Item was removed from Ebay, followed not long after by the seller. Got my refund.

Laura Horne
2020-03-28 16:28:46

Its probably a scam, I brought some a few weeks ago then Ebay sent me a message saying they were removing the item as it was suspicious. Still haven't received it and I'm having to open a case as the user won't respond

Travis Lewis
2020-03-28 16:30:28

Honestly it does make the most sense its a scam, I bought it before making the post lol. I was kinda expecting it but I figured 10 bucks was a small enough gamble to make lol

Alex Alameda
2020-03-28 16:44:35

5 Litres should be closer to $25 on a normal day. Total scam. I bet if you check the item location it is USA: USA.

Travis Lewis
2020-03-28 16:46:28

I really should have checked here before buying it... lol oh well. Biggest reason I went to try it was the person had a 100% rating on ebay

Nipuna Gunarathne
2020-03-28 17:24:04

I was buying 99 IPA locally at around that price before corona hit.

Joe McCluskey

Tried to buy ipa from eBay last week. , £11for 5 litres.
Didn’t arrive and I got a refund.

I just looked at some of those listings: the sellers have either were low feedback numbers, meaning they haven’t been selling many items, or they have no recent feedback so the probably are using old accounts to scam people. I always encourage people to report those items to eBay so they can investigate, but unfortunately they pop up as fast as eBay takes them down

So now I have another question for all of you, what is this from? It seems when ever I print something it has points where it breaks/does not print right

Benjamin Engl
2020-03-22 01:28:04

Don´t know what causes the break. What temperature is it in the room? Did it break on its own or when trying to remove it? You printing a Maker knife?

Rok Petrič
2020-03-22 01:37:11

rotate part by 15 than print

Travis Lewis
2020-03-22 02:17:27

I have no idea what temperature it is in my room, I do know it's not hot or cold lol and that is before I even tried to get it off the build plate and i will try to rotate it but I fear it will just break again, I thought maybe releveling the bed would help so I am trying that:)

Travis Lewis
2020-03-22 02:24:57

After releveling it broke more lol

Travis Lewis
2020-03-22 02:30:12

If this looks like this does that mean I should try to change the film out?

Amjad Syed
2020-03-22 06:18:25

Is this a new printer? From my understanding, some of them come with a plastic film that needs to be peeled off the FEP before using. Mine didn't, but I've seen this posted before....

Travis Lewis
2020-03-22 06:20:23

Nope I had actually even replaced the fep film and been printing with it fine, though this is a new resin and since i exhausted everything else i can think of im just going to start throwing random settings at it lol

David McGyver
2020-03-23 11:21:41

Looks like a suction failure to me. That outer wall basically makes a giant suction cup against the fep. To peel, the liquid resin needs some way to flow into the middle to relieve the suction. Since there's no hole in the part, then the force is great enough that the resin makes its own hole, and blasts through the side of the part. If it happens on an early layer, then it'll keep happening at that spot, the resin will just water-jet its own little hole there.

Makes sense that re-levelling makes it worse. If it's suction, then better levelling will just make the suction cup effect stronger.

As far as a fix goes, you may need to design-in some sort of hole/port for the resin to flow into that center cavity. Either that or elevate the part on supports and print it at an angle.

Hi guys i was hoping to see if any of you know of a way to bend a stl with out deforming it. I would love to make a chainmail braclet with this printer, but they all come modeled straight so they will not fit on the build plate. So I was thinking if it would be possible to make it go in a circle then it would fit. I tried in blender and it kept deforming the stl so im lost. If any of you guys have any ideas I would be greatly appreciative

Hiya, I was hoping I could get some help on how to properly position this model. I have tried a few different ways, and they all have failed. I tried just laying it on the face of the model and when it was done the model was split, then i tried slanting it and had problems with warping. If you guys have any advice id greatly appreciate it :) Also the link for the model is https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3704905 翻譯年糕

Hi guys, not sure if there is any possible way but figured I would ask. I recently saw the new phrozen sonic mini and love the speed at which it can print, so I was curious if you could get the photon as fast. I figured if there was a replacement monochromatic screen then you could just add it to the photon though I have not been able to find one. So I wanted to ask would it work, or if not now could it work in the future when more people have modded and worked out the kinks from changing the screen. Thanks for all your help

Wanted to share my solution for curing my prints, I had a plastic three drawer organizer, that I covered one of the drawers with aluminium tape and put up uv LEDs lights from Amazon and hot glued a switch onto the side of it then spliced it into the power supply of the LEDs

Hi guys, I just got my printer last weekend and I am loving it! Though I was curious if it could be expanded upon, for example I know with a fdm printer you can just get longer lead screws and was curious if that would work for a resin printer. I wasnt sure if there was any difference that would stop it from going bigger like how long the lcd could be on or stuff like that. Also I was curious are there any mods that could get this to print faster like changing the lcd to a monochromatic one or getting a different type of resin. Again I am new so this may all be simple but got to start somewhere :) Thanks again for your time to read this
