Been out of printing for a while but will have more time now. What is everyone using for a slicer these days?

I've been using chitubox... Only been printing for about 1-2 weeks... Been going non stop with no issues

Israël St-Gelais
2020-03-25 04:22:01

prusaslicer + chitubox is the ultimate combo for me

Michael Sanford
2020-03-25 04:33:39

how's that work?

Israël St-Gelais
2020-03-25 05:03:04

import in prusaslicer, auto-orient, then set auto-support at 70 %. Then import it with support in chitubox to slice

So I am at a loss as to why the tunic is greyed out.
I got it from thingiverse. Seems no matter which slicer I use it's still that way. Can't put supports on it or anything. Can someone explain this to me.
Thanks.

所以, 我很困惑, 為甚麼這件內衣被灰色.
我從thingiverse那裡得到的. 似乎不管我用哪一個切片, 它仍然是這樣. 不能支援它或任何東西. 誰能給我解釋一下嗎?
謝謝.

Maybe the mesh isnt closed? If your running windows 10 try putting it through 3d builder and see what it says

David Seaman
2020-03-25 02:01:46

It could also be an inverted mesh.

Richard Humble
2020-03-25 02:02:04

The normals are reversed, needs fixing. The darker areas are 'inside'

Hector Alvarez
2020-03-25 02:03:16

Load it into Microsoft 3d builder and itll automatically fix it

Nicholas Hein
2020-03-25 02:03:41

Like mentioned already its a non fixed not manifold reversed mesh. You will need to fix the normals before printing it.

Ernest Sandridge Ill
2020-03-25 02:09:01

Ahhh, yes thank you all.
It worked.

Nicholas Hein
2020-03-25 02:18:08

To elborate. There are a lot of ways to fix it. I use netfab and auto fix. Simple and free. Apparently 3d builder works well enough. I havent tried. You can upload the stl into programs like blender and fix it there.

Scott Pavlich
2020-03-25 04:24:58

Your normals aren’t normal!

David McGyver
2020-03-25 05:21:17

Abnormal normals?

Hello. Please me model printer and parametrs ?

Seth Manrow
2020-03-26 08:35:33

Open it up in Prusaslicer, right click, and choose "Fix via Netfabb" - might fix your inside-out polygons! I use it for every STL as a safety measure.
Edit: Disregard, I see you fixed it!

A little scan to print project to keep me busy during isolation. Far too much exposure me thinks

I did the whole “optimal orientation and auto support” thing in prusa and then I exported as an stl. If I look at the file properties it says it’s an stl. I can’t however load it in chitubox or prusa. They both say it’s an invalid file type. What’s up?

Are you importing it or opening it?

Shaun Reno

Dan Elent tried both

Jacob Hale

"export plate as an stl including supports" option, this will save it as an .stl instead of a masked .sl1 file.

Dan Elent
2020-03-25 02:14:11

Where exactly do they tell you its invalid?

Shaun Reno
2020-03-25 02:18:27

Jacob Hale I did that.

So everyone talks about the file validator. What exactly is it and how do I use it? Also, the two websites I saw it on both seem sketchy. Does anyone have a link to download it from a reputable source?

Photonsters on github:

Neil Ramsay

It's basically a program that takes your .photon file and checks to see if there are unsupported islands or issues in the sliced model that might cause printing failure.

Sol Aris
2020-03-25 10:17:45

It can do much more. For example change the exposure time without having to reslice. Change individual layers directly. Or add anti-aliasing. And now even import PrusaSlicer files directly, so you don't need Chitubox or other proprietary slicers anymore ;)

What do you all use to glue your large prints together? I have a print that has 8 pieces.

你們用甚麼來把大指紋粘在一起? 我有一張有8件的指紋.

Hi, guys. How u all? I would like to know if I can clean the resin pieces with kerosene. I don't know what to do. Because these things about covid19, alcohol is not too easy to find. I don't know the options here in Brazil.. do kerosene works?

Ray Sears

It would probably work but there are better options. My local hardware store had plenty of acetone and denatured alcohol.

Sen Kun

Kerosene works well, just stinky and oily. You're in Brazil, Ethanol works great.

Ok going to try my first print and I’m on the siraya tech website trying to copy the print settings for the blu over but not sure. Website doesn’t have “light-off delay” and “bottom light-off delay”. I’m using the .05 layer height . And suggestions? Ty in advance. Also I put it Chitubox in photon s profile. Does “off times(s)” mean both off settings in Chitubox ?

I just got my printer. I have levelled it and watched several videos to get started. I have a quick question though, how much resin do you normally put in the vat to start with?

翻譯年糕

Andrew Sternglass
2020-03-25 00:28:41

If you want to play it safe lower the plate all the way and then add resin. Then you're guaranteed to not spill. Otherwise just add as much as you think you need that looks like it won't overflow once the plate is in.

Brian Jones
2020-03-25 00:59:06

I pour mine to the bevel about 1/2" or less up from the FEP....I print minis so this method works well for me, I always use less resin than that.

Steve Landers
2020-03-25 09:41:25

Thanks for the help! ?

Neal Conway
2020-03-25 14:13:42

Just as an FYI the official blurb states it takes 70ml. Not tried it but I reckon that's close to Flood Alert . . .

Nikola Pijanac
2020-03-25 16:02:18

Lower your build platform to the bottom of the Vat you can fill it to within a few mm's of the brim. Resin getting on top of the build platform will not damage your printer in any way it just makes it a little more messy when you want to clean it.
