So I've spent about an half an hour searching around and it seems the general consensus is as long as you clear coat things they are generally safe for casual wear. So if I put a nice clear coat on these would they be safe to wear as necklaces? I made this last night in Fusion 360 and printed it, all my friends thought it was hilarious and wanted one of their own. Just a little something to commemorate surviving the great "Toilet Paper Crisis of 2020" without having to resort to hoarding. From my experience by the time these things are cleaned and set out in the sun for a couple of days, I can't detect any scent of resin. I would think with the clear coat to seal anything inside that they would be generally safe to wear. They're probably not going to be worn against the skin or for extended periods of time either. I have some protectaclear that's designed for metal jewelry which is a pretty tough clear coat. I might try that stuff. I wouldn't try this with something like a ring or earrings that are going to have closer contact with the skin.

i did keychains..
Keith Yinger 2020-03-23 03:28:23
Aaron Strome nice.
Ernest Sandridge Ill 2020-03-23 04:06:23
I would interested in the stl for these
Keith Yinger 2020-03-23 04:27:36
Ernest Sandridge Ill I saw Aaron's post and his keychains roll. Looked on thingiverse and didn't see an stl so I made these in fusion 360. I'm by no means an expert in Fusion 360 but this was a pretty simple design. A couple of circles and a couple of tangential lines, then extrude and there's a toilet paper roll.

Aaron Strome 2020-03-23 04:30:04
this is the one i ended up making in the end the one i posted wouldn't print the extra paper area. but this one works.
Keith Yinger 2020-03-23 04:30:30
Aaron Strome nice. Those look even better than mine. They have pleats and more texture and everything. Like I said I'm a complete new but 3D modeling so I thought I was doing pretty good to get a nice looking roll as I did haha
Aaron Strome 2020-03-23 04:33:28
you did a great job. i'm still trying to learn fusion 360. i find myself spending so much time fixing models i find online i really want to learn to make them.
Keith Yinger 2020-03-23 04:33:45
Aaron Strome ahh. Ya mine got a little weird at the start of the extra bit but it started after a few layers. it just kind of adds a bit of a torn corner look.
Aaron Strome 2020-03-23 04:35:08
few of mine turn out like that too but thought it added to it..
Keith Yinger 2020-03-23 04:35:57
Ya exactly

I've been using the Proton now for about a month and gotten somewhere around a dozen prints under my belt. Would have done more buy I'm learning Fusion 360 as I go and so making the computer models is going pretty slowly. That said, there are a couple of things that I've found and will be interested in hearing feedback on: I am now setting all of my models at an angle and using supports. The few prints I've tried that were flat to the plate had a marked tendency to pull off the build plate or separate and muck up on the FEP. I am using fewer supports than I did at first but spreading them out so that the models don't "wobble" when they pull off the FEP. I never disturb the machine while it's printing. In my experience, (your mileage may vary!), pressing the "Pause" or even opening the front cover will result in visible layer offset or surface waves. When I just let it print, this doesn't happen. I've gotten one "flaky" .STL file out of Fusion so far. When you are looking at your file in the slicer and see strange objects or sliced edges that should be smooth when you look at them in cross-sections are not smooth. Dump it and try another .STL generation. If that doesn't work, look carefully at your computer model and clean up anything questionable. I know that all of you experienced folks out there will probably think this is pretty basic but I would be interested in hearing any opinions that are different than mine or reinforcement of similar experiences. I'm also including a couple of pictures of the front & rear tire/wheel assemblies for the Chaparral 2H that I'm building. Again, comments are appreciated. Happy Printing to All! MK 翻譯年糕

You can use Meshmixer to check and repair your STL files.

Those tyres are ace :)

All experiences welcomed, much appreciated.. Supports need to be all around the extremities,to force printing of the edges..especially corners.. have found a marked benefit by orienting off the bed...30 degrees off horizontal and maybe 10 degrees sidewa ys tip..on none round objects..obviously :) and lift speed..the vacuum effect off the FEP..another potential problem area often overlooked... https://www.chitubox.com/article_howto_17839_3_38.html
Ryan Jones 2020-03-18 01:49:27
Mike Kendel are your wheel assemblies 1 or 2 pieces (tires separate from rims)? I’ve found for my two piece wheel models, I get more uniform and precise roundness by orienting the parts parallel to the build plate. I need +/- .004” for a good mate between the two pieces. What scale are yours? They look great!
Grant Weaver 2020-03-18 01:51:56
Ryan Jones I do the flat orientation with wheels and tires as well.
Jeremy Babcock 2020-03-18 02:23:18
Nice
Mike Kendel 2020-03-18 03:23:56
The current designs are combined wheel/tire, (1 piece). I had some issues with the wheel print rims separating from the wheel body when I printed them flat. I've noticed some issues with distortion in the tire bodies when they are "hot off the press" but they seem to normalize after cleaning, (I use warm water and an ultrasonic bath for up to 10 minutes). I checked a couple of the wheel prints, (hadn't modelled the tires yet), an found them to be round to within roughly =/- 0.005 inch and the dimensional accuracy to be about the same. Lastly, all of the parts that I'm making now are for a 1/12 scale Chaparral 2H Can-Am car.
Arri Merenda 2020-03-18 06:29:44
I used to printed the wheel too, but never get perfectly rounded when angled it, so I back to flat with the plate, with support ?
Mike Kendel 2020-03-19 00:25:00
Thank you Jason! The Fusion 360 software I am using for the designs has no capability to put text on a non-flat surface, so the lettering may be a little to high at the edges but I plan to sand it just a bit so it follows the tire sidewalls better before painting them.
Jason Gill 2020-03-19 05:21:36
Looks brilliant to me :)

I'm currently working on some pickup rings in fusion 360 and I was wondering if any of you had any tips on how to buff resin prints to a gloss. Top is original, bottom is prototype test print. I've tried to hit it with a 3000 grit sandpaper, but still looks a bit scratchy.
我目前正在fusion 360的一些取貨戒指, 我想知道你們當中有沒有人知道如何將樹脂印到光澤上的提示. Top是原創的, 底部是試版. 我試過用3000 grit sandpaper打它, 但看起來還是有點癢.

So here's my process, can you tell me if I'm on the right path? Prepare model in Fusion 360 with minor tweaks (models from HeroForge or other places) save as STL. Open in PrusaSlice, auto orient so faces are up. Auto support at 75%. Export w/ supports. Open in ChitUBox and slice. Open in Photon File Validator, fix any issues, if island to big go back to PrusaSlice and adjust as needed. GoTo 3, if not GoTo 5. Put .photon file on good USB and plug into Photon. Print. WAAAIIIITTTT Detach plate, scrape off printed object into ultrasonic jewelry cleaner filled with IPA and set for 3 minutes, Run HOT water over printed object and remove supports. LIGHTLY sand leftover support bumps Place under UV light and rotating stand for 5 minutes (+/- depending on size) Finish (paint if needed, varnish, whatever) Collect Underpants Profit 翻譯年糕

Hi guys, i need your help. I need some caps for little glassbottles and would like to print this caps with my photon s, but i cant found a stl. I tried to draw some with fusion 360 but wasnt sucessfull. Could anyone draw such caps for me? The caps have not to seal up the bottles, they are only for decoration. The caps should look approximately like the ones on the pic.

Sometimes slicer supports simply don't work and you are better off making your own custom supports for the model.

So how does this madness ensue? A hollow cylinder created in Fusion360 appears hollow in F360 and the Photon Slicer. But when sliced, it appears solid in the Preview (see picture). It also prints solid. Why???? I've made similar hollow cylinders in F360 and had no such problem.

Trying to get more detail from my prints. I needed to redo the Templar Knight ring , has it was a model designed in a app I no longer have, so off to Fusion360, I reworked it a little then reprinted, this time I turned off AA, because I read some posts here AA can impact fine detail. So here are the photos, Left original - Right rework + screen shot from CAD Any thoughts welcomed.
