CHITU 1.6.3 Reviews/Feedback

1. I'll kick it off with the short keys. AWESOME TY Chitu

2. Manual changing to support tab when clicked, great. For me its a little buggy still. it doesnt always change the support. i tested all 3 sizes. 10 placements of each. and tried to edit all 10 with random numbers. success rate was about 8/10. the few times it did not update, dont know why. alt-tabbed, came back in and it worked.

3. I'm seeing some sort of mouse issue. Sometimes when in the edit menus, the mouse disappears and you can move around and see it hitting target areas, but does not reappear. i have to alt-tab to make the mouse show up again and then alt-tab back into Chitu and its fine.

4. Undo-Redo seems to be working as intended. Big issue here for me, seems to be limited to ~5 undos. Id love for this to be at-least 10 or more.

5. Build Plate Offset was not tested, as i dont know why I need this functionality, yet.

6. 2k/4k monitor users, they fixed the windows again. No longer having buttons off the screen :D

7. Auto supports seems about the same, although it does seem the zig-zags placed, to avoid touching your model, have a greater tolerance than before Seems they leave more clearance, or i never really looked before lol I usually deleted them and manually added anyway. BUT I can now also move those main supports easily, but the top part, not editable still. It leaves them floating and connected. :(

8. I placed a gazillion supports of all sizes close together to test the bridging of supports vs placing a full tall support. It only placed tall supports. No more bridging close to a support and not having a base. This is great as now you can edit those supports vs before, you had no way w/ out creatively adding a full support and moving to where you want it every time.

I give this a usable thumbs up for me. I can work with the small inconveniences to the mouse and undo.

That is all i really tested. Hope to see some good feedback from some of our resident experts and power users.

Ok so my first print using the Anycubic grey was a “success”.

Google doc suggestion for Anycubic Photon Grey
(I am printing using the photon s though so maybe it’s different)

Layer: 0.02
Normal Exposure: 12sec
Off time: 6.5
Bottom Exposure: 95
Bottom Layer: 8

I forgot the supports under the bottom of the axe head so I’ll be reprinting.

The settings suggested for the Anycubic grey seems to be a bit much and from what I read I should try reducing the exposure time to get more details out of this. Does that sound about right?

Also I think I need to rework the supports because it really messes up the back, or would getting the exposure time tuned properly help with support removal as well?

If you have tried the exposure test and could not decide which number was best, you can always print the AmeraLab Town in 2 increments. I mainly compared the letters on the building and the logo on the building. I found 14 second exposure works well with SainSmart Rapid Gray.

Have you used this technic for finding the exposure?

First major fail after switching to Anycubic Gray. I had been printing fine with Anycubic Green before this. 0.03 later height, bottom layer count 8, exposure time 4s, bottom exposure 60s, l-off/b-off 1s. Supported in Prusa then added a few more supports in Chitubox before slicing. Temperature is 70 degrees on a Photon S. Is this because the exposure is too low? I got these settings from the Photon S spreadsheet for Anycubic Gray.
Also, is my FEP ruined? It took great effort to get the globs off it and there's a lot of scratches. 翻譯年糕

I need help with diagnosing why my prints get slightly bent in the bottom. I feel like I've used enough supports (mix of heavy and medium and a single light on the outer edge) to avoid this. Old-school Photon, Anycubic Grey resin. 0,05mm and 12 second exposure.

Any thoughts on the accuracy of the Chitubox Volumes estimates? I find a week into printing I have used my first full bottle and the math for what I have printed doesn't add up. I am printing larger lithopanes which each are supposed to eat 31 ml but I have only printed 6 of them. I have had one failure that resulted in a filter of my resin and my other experiments were measured amounts (total of 150ml). That leaves me 150mlish short.

Hey guys, my new big project is finally completely finished!
Cyber Metal Biker Chick !
If you're interested, here's little about the process:

I started sculpting this back in summer, but had to constantly put it away because of "Jobs" and stuff. So just kept working at it whenever I had some free time and kept adding details, changing the design, re-sculpting a bunch of stuff and so on, but I'm pretty happy with how everything turned out x]

In general it was a little bit inspired by old school Heavy Metal Magazines style - you know - where everything just looks COOL and makes no sense :D

Printed on Anycubic Photon with Ameralabs Grey resin. I was using 5.61s for 0.04mm thickness layers, 4xAA, 4 raft layers - 80s exposure.

Everything was cut into 26 parts - which was altogether 7 full plate prints (check picture in chitubox). The final model is around 1/10th scale (about 21cm in height)

I printed everything hollowed with 1-1.1mm wall thickness.
Usually I never used auto-supports in the past, don't trust them at all. But I tried PrusaSlicer and it's not too bad! Still a lot of nonsense supports but a good start.
So I was orienting parts in Chitubox - creating full plate scenes (because it's very easy to see how everything will get printed with that Slice Slider thingie and Prusa's Slider is not that good),
Then exported those full plate STLs to PrusaSlicer, generated auto-supports, went into manual editing, deleted some nonsense, moved some support points around to better distribute the weight, added a bunch more supports manually.
Then exported everything back to Chitubox again, checked if it looked alright, added a few more supports in chitubox if I felt the need and sliced everything with 4xAA.

Most likely I'm using way too many supports, but I kinda want to feel safe and secure everything in place while printing. I really don't mind some quick sanding, and I tried orienting all the parts so there's not too much marks on the good sides of the model - all the crap went to the bottom where no one will see it x]
Because there so many details, there are some small unsupported islands here and there, bet they usually get attached to the main print in a layer or two, so I wasn't sweating about it x]

One thing that I really learned - Next time I won't use cylindrical keys for joining parts.. it can get annoying, but redoing all the keys and cuts and then test-printing everything again will take me another 2 weeks or more, so I left them as it is for now.

Sorry for a long read! I hope I didn't forget anything important, let me know if you have any questions.

I don't want to flood the group with 50 photos, so I have uploaded a lot more photos here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/armians3d/photos/

It's a pretty complicated project, but if you're up for the challenge - STL files are now available to purchase on MyMiniFactory. 翻譯年糕

BUP BOWWW.. FAIL! Hey all, my new Photon S arrived today and I was excited to get it setup and print my first test cube. Alas, like many other new owners, I had a failure.. The thing is.. The cube looks basically perfect except the 'PHOTON' text in the middle seems to have failed and messed the 'ANYCUBIC' text up a bit also.. Any ideas what caused this?

I do notice that I get the FEP 'pop' sound after each layer, perhaps it's not tight enough? It felt/sounded tight out of the box. Cheers!
