Who's up for a list of stupid noob questions?! :)

I know UV light cures resin. How crazy do I need to be about keeping light out of the machine? If I'm in a room with windows, do I need to put up a blackout curtain, or does just keeping it out of direct sunlight work?

Should I leave the protective covering on the inside of the viewports, since they're already opaque?

Will opening the machine in a daylit room expose the resin too much?

There's a bunch of stuff like that were I know certain facts (like UV cures resin) but not the details (like, does UV light bounce around the room like visible light?, etc.). This group has already been super helpful as I've been lurking about, so I appreciate you all and your advice.

Thanks!

after fine sanding and repair of the indexfinger that popped off because i wanted to remove supports between them (!!!) with a razorblade.. the blade was thick enough to be too much.
no matter.. a drop of the resin and my neat little UV lighter thingie to pop it back on.

and a few details of the print.. even the wolfhead on the hammer is clearly there..

So what preferred settings does anyone have for specifically printing detailed 28mm miniatures on the photon S in anycubic grey? Looking for chitubox settings, layer height, exposure, etc. Would love some examples / pics with the settings. Thanks in advance!

Hey! I see this come up a bunch here and I wanted to share my experience.

I spent several years developing LED strip lighting products.

Standard white LEDs use 480nm Blue Diodes and Phosphors, which take blue light and convert it to yellow and green to make White light.

480mm is the standard blue diode, royal blue/deep blue leds are available but their output is much dimmer so they are not used to make white LEDs (less efficient) or RGB LEDs (difficult to match diode brightness).

All diodes are slightly different, in terms of wavelength, output, temperature, voltage, etc.

Despite what the Google Images searches will show, 480nm LEDs DO have output all the way down to UV (although not much). The curve is more like an asymptote.

You don't need a Spectral Irradiance Meter to test this just turn on any RGB strip to blue and you will see fluorescence.

Do your White Task/Desk/Work LEDs have enough UV to cure resin? IMO, maybe, depends on the resin sensitivity at higher wavelengths and the intensity of the lights.

Is it better than fluorescent or sunlight? Absolutely.
Just something to keep in mind.

(Edit for clarity maybe)

I keep printing toys for the kids, and the kids keep breaking them. Is there a reasonably priced resin that's reasonably durable? I saw an impressive video of a tough FormLabs resin that's $175 , which is crazy... even if I did know it would work with this printer. There's some resins in the $35-$50 range that are advertised as "not brittle," or, "ABS-like" which doesn't instill a ton of confidence in me that it will be durable... does anyone have any experience with a tougher resin?

Need some help here... printed clay cutters for my wife’s hobby, but this cutter seems to have done the base and then I’m not sure it finished everything and cracked, before I took it off the build base. Don’t know if it was just a fluke or something else.

Settings:
Layer - .05
Exposure - 6 sec
4 layer base

Hey Folks, looking for a little advice on lighting. Just finished setting up my new garage workspace (Photo is from before the printer had moved in), and I want to add some extra lighting.

Some people have reported issues with LED striplight emitting UV. I don't really want to order 3-4 fixtures off e-bay, then discover I can't have them turned on when there's any uncovered resin about.

Can anyone offer some guidance on what I should/shouldn't be looking for to save myself some headaches?

I finally managed to print this beautiful Bullete-style monster from Thingiverse, but am hoping the experts can give me some advice on three problems I encountered.

1. It seems to have cured quite dull and matt vs. my other more glossy prints, the detail seems fine (but it's not hugely detailed anyway).
2. It has what looks like a layer line about a third of the way through.
3. It has this weird milky finish in some areas

So, where's the hotspot for buying resin in Aus.
Ebay averages $82 a litre
Ali express is $61 a litre but comes with unreliability and lonnnng shipping times.
Amazon $46.71, still longish shipping
https://www.amazon.com/SainSmart-Printer-Printing-General-Photopolymer/dp/B07V1MRNJK

I'm going to try the amazon stuff but anyone had issues with SainSmart brand before I hit buy? 翻譯年糕
