So I finished my first bottle of resin since getting my printer. Went with the green Anycubic brand and used the default slicer and had about a 90% success rate. I see lots of people doing firmware updates, but should I bother with updates if I'm getting such a high success rate? What are the benefits?
Damo Cramp 2020-03-30 05:03:29
If it isn't broke, dont fix it :p
Darko Miljak 2020-03-30 07:00:39
some improvements, antialiasing eg. If ur using Photon S its good to upgrade to be able to read different file types.

New to this, test cube printed great, firmware updated. Should there be a slight drum sound when the build plate rises after each layer? Thanks to everyone for all the help...
Anders Jens Ramm 2020-03-30 00:45:06
Yes
Morten Vinther 2020-03-30 00:45:17
That is the sound of succes... print releasing from the fep
Marcel Hansen 2020-03-30 03:27:36
You want to hear that plopp! You should be worried if you don't hear it

Anybody else having a hard time getting any response from Anycubic support? My LCD screen is failing the detection test (whole screen lights up). I put in a ticket and stated that I had already tried updating the firmware and re-seating the connector. The response I got was to update the firmware and re-seat the connector! I replied back to them stating I had already done that but I did it again and the screen still fails. That was about 10 days ago and have heard nothing since despite asking for a response 3 times!
Bob Deblier 2020-03-29 02:33:34
Corona.
Kathy Oettle 2020-03-29 07:39:45
Hey Scott. I also had a service ticket open plus I ordered a new LCD screen. I just received contacted in the last couple days. The person from anycubic said that they apologized for the delay but they aren't able to have as many people working to make the products so there is a shortage.
Scott F. Gray 2020-03-29 08:28:37
Kathy Oettle thanks. I assumed something like that but one would think they would put at least some kind of notice on the website. I just went ahead and ordered a new screen. Hopefully it won't take too long to get. I'm having printer withdrawals!!!
Julia Nichols 2020-03-29 08:29:40
Same here, I have been trying to get a new Lcd for two weeks.
Kathy Oettle 2020-03-29 08:50:30
I kind of thought something like this might happen and it’s understandable but a little more communication would’ve been nice.

Jeremy Swigart 2020-03-29 00:35:39
Jairo Ledesma 2020-03-29 00:35:40
Yes, you probably have a fauxton,
Jim Goulbourne 2020-03-29 00:42:19
You need to make sure chitubox is outputing the file to a .photon files. It isn the settings somewhere
Michael Rolston 2020-03-29 00:44:18
Jeremy Swigart , is there a how to video?
Michael Rolston 2020-03-29 00:45:42
Jim Goulbourne , did that they are discovered but says that they can't be opened, that's why I thought firmware
Reid Ball 2020-03-29 00:51:31
New photon firmware no longer recognizes .photon only .PWS save your STL with supports or whatever from chitubox then open it and slice it in photon workshop
Reid Ball 2020-03-29 00:54:06
At least that's what I learned about my photon s. I also just got it like 2 days ago
Brian Keith Saunders 2020-03-29 00:55:59
Reid Ball yeah thats what im doing with my zeros. I use chituboz to do the supports then photon slicer for the final output.
Jeff Greenfield 2020-03-29 00:57:25
Reid Ball incorrect. Update firmware to 5.0X and it will read .photon, .photons, and .pws.
Jeremy Swigart 2020-03-29 01:08:58
The directions are with the files. It's super trivial
Sander van Deijl 2020-03-29 01:12:02
Jeff Greenfield ?? ??
Reid Ball 2020-03-29 01:12:54
Jeff Greenfield thanks for that, I definitely assumed it would have came with the most recent firmware
Scott Pavlich 2020-03-29 01:28:01
Reid Ball Or update your firmware
John Bkly 2020-03-29 01:43:42
Yeah, had the same issue and did the firmware 5.1 I think from their website and it recognizes .photon files now. I use the Prusa slicer for generating the supports, save as stl with supports included and bring it into Chitubox to generate the slicer file.
Panagiotis Kountouriotis 2020-03-29 01:55:36
John Bkly you use normal supports in prusa slicer?
John Bkly 2020-03-29 01:56:40
Auto generate then add a few that I think it missed. It has worked pretty well so far, just a couple extra steps and a bit of extra time.
Nicholas Norton 2020-03-29 02:41:29
Jairo Ledesma careful I got flamed for saying something similar. Apparently the community flips their collective shit over the word “fauxton” even tho that’s literally what you have to google to find the answer to this question.
Nicholas Norton 2020-03-29 02:42:46
Michael Pippin 2020-03-29 02:47:38
Check the file names before you start upgrading software.
Richard Webb 2020-03-29 02:49:13
100% do the firmware update - then you can use all photon related filetypes
Steve Fisher 2020-03-29 03:10:38
I have just got the photon s and will not read the files from chitubox either. Is there a specific version number for the firmware that is know to work, or is it just a case the latest version will do? I only ask as I have seen conflicting advice saying "no longer working on the latest firmware"
Richard Webb 2020-03-29 05:20:50
just update to v5.x and all will be good
Philip J Newman 2020-03-29 13:18:28
Nicholas Norton wouldn’t flame him, just assume he’s the kinda guy who waits in line for the newest iPhone then jerks off about it for a month every time he tells someone about it
David Anthony Vivas 2020-03-29 17:17:29
This is not true. Just update firmware
David Anthony Vivas 2020-03-29 17:18:54
Yea, not sure why.people.keep.saying that, and we are in almost april. About a week or so after release there was a software update. Does .photon and .photons
David Anthony Vivas 2020-03-29 17:19:25
Always make sure to check firmware updates on Anycubic.com
Marcel Hansen 2020-03-29 20:23:17
Afaik The new photons only use the pws file type which you can't export with chitubox you have to open it again in photon workshop and save as pws

I am starting to hate this problem! Sliced in Chitubox, checked it, looked all good. A few hours into printing, all of a sudden the compleet screen is white!? Firmware is up to date, i use a new usb stick. How can i soulve this?
Alexander Bayerdorffer 2020-03-28 19:34:50
Try a different file. If not try a different slicer
Stuart Finesilver 2020-03-28 19:35:45
Maybe a corrupt file I always check slice layer by layer...
David Cornell 2020-03-28 19:38:33
Reformat your USB
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-28 19:39:08
Stuart Finesilver i did that also
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-28 19:39:28
David Cornell i will try. Thanks
Casey Frank 2020-03-28 19:48:04
Did u have models hanging off the build plate somewhere in the slicer? I got this when I had a duplicate sitting out of sight in the background off the build plate
Casey Frank 2020-03-28 19:48:49
Also, does the print time seem unreasonably longer than normal?
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-28 21:01:12
Casey Frank no, all was clear and only inserted one piece to print. Was a print of 12 hours. The sliced model looked good, i checked the layers
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-28 21:02:36
Casey Frank well i noticed a different between the time that chitubox gave (9+ hours), and the Photon S itself (12+ hours)
Wes Shawshank Crain 2020-03-28 22:42:44
Can the current firmware support chitubox?
Casey Frank 2020-03-28 23:46:22
Can u recall this problem start to happen after u started doing something different? Like did it start right after u got new usb?
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-29 01:38:42
Casey Frank no, 26% of the print time. And why i realy dont know. I have printed last days different items and did have that problem a few times. The sliced model i checked.
Casey Frank 2020-03-29 01:41:28
Jurjen de Quelerij so u have dif usb, have u used dif slicer?
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-29 01:42:24
Casey Frank no all the same slicer amd the same usb
Casey Frank 2020-03-29 01:42:33
And I see u mentioned u check every layer, it may really just be a firmware problem
Casey Frank 2020-03-29 01:42:39
Oh
Casey Frank 2020-03-29 01:42:55
Try dif usb
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-29 01:43:12
It is the latest firmware version
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-29 01:43:23
Casey Frank yes i will
Casey Frank 2020-03-29 01:43:29
Does ur usb have connection issues?
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-29 01:43:53
Casey Frank no not that i know of
Casey Frank 2020-03-29 01:44:12
The white usb can with my photon s started having connection issues
Casey Frank 2020-03-29 01:45:09
I think cheapest solution first, try dif slicer and if it still shows, try reformat usb or buying new one
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-29 01:45:58
Casey Frank i know that the white one is bad so i bought a new one.
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-29 01:46:27
I will reformat it first. What is a good other slicer?
Casey Frank 2020-03-29 01:47:09
Keep us updated if it still shows
Casey Frank 2020-03-29 01:47:41
Jurjen de Quelerij I really like photon workshop that comes with it
Jurjen de Quelerij 2020-03-29 02:35:35
Casey Frank i will do so and i will also try it with Workshop.

Hey there photon collective!
It’s been a while since the Photon S firmware updates have come out where you could no longer use ChiTuBox, but gained the ability to do the resin tests by dividing the screen. Originally I said f that because I like ChiTuBox and didn’t have a hard time dialing my settings. Recently I’ve had a number of failed prints or loss of details and so I’m tempted to update so I can use the tests. Now that’s it’s been a while, I’m curious to get your opinions on updating firmware. Should I finally update the firmware?
Thanks for your responses in advance.
Sander van Deijl 2020-03-28 14:59:46
With the latest update (5.0.2 from last december?) you can use chitubox. The first thing I did when I got my printer is updating to this firmware. Never had a problem besides user errors.

Ok guys, I've tried quite hard to find some answers on various internet sources without any success. So I'm trying here. I have a standard Photon, firmware 4.2.18 and experiencing wierd lines on a cylinder printer verticaly. Antialiasing did not help much...
This is sliced in Chitubox 1.6.1, layer thikness 0.3, antialiasing 4, printed in Anycubic Green resin.
I do not have any other resin to try but the lines are also visible when previewing the sliced file in Chitubox...
Any suggestion how to avoid the lines when printing vertical cylindes? ...except changing orientation :)
Thx for any help ;)
Anders Scot Hudson 2020-03-28 00:50:41
I'd have to say this is an issue with the file, looks like an aliasing issue like you would see on an FDM printer because the poly count was too low...
Alexandr Uhlik 2020-03-28 01:04:55
Thanks a lot Anders. I have quite a high polygon count. Here are the properties: 41778858 vertices, 13926286 polygons STL file is 670MB.
Ray Sears 2020-03-28 01:09:17
Saturn V?
Alexandr Uhlik 2020-03-28 01:12:52
Correct :D 1/96 ;) The whole CSM + BPC needs to be replaced ;)
Pete Kastner 2020-03-28 01:14:36
Alexandr Uhlik 2020-03-28 01:15:58
This is the mesh structure
Anders Scot Hudson 2020-03-28 01:18:00
What are you using to model? is everything "closed"? Slicers hate anything that just a surface, if that makes sense? They can get creative with artifacts like that if something is left to interpretation where it starts and stops.
Niall Forrester 2020-03-28 01:20:34
Don't think this is relevant for curved surfaces, unfortunately
Alexandr Uhlik 2020-03-28 01:23:46
Thanks but this is for angeled prints - I need it printed straight vertical ;)
Alexandr Uhlik 2020-03-28 01:25:23
I am using Rhino3D. STLs are checked in Magics and repaired if needed. The "lines" are in fact on four sides of the part where it cross the X and Y axis. It seems like the very low X,Y resolution but the Chitubox is correctly set up for standard Photon. :(
Anders Scot Hudson 2020-03-28 01:31:02
Check the image below with the angle chart, because that "wall" is on a right angle, you may just be getting aliasing from the LCD as well, photons hate right angles sometimes so it's good to force them to see things as slopes.
Jason Pedersen 2020-03-28 01:33:39
Also, this is relevant to layer height, this particular issue is caused by the pixels of the screen.
Andrew Rosenthal 2020-03-28 01:34:44
I get these lines on vertical surfaces too, and wondering what they are. Not just cylinders, but other flat surfaces as well if perpendicular to the lcd.
Jason Pedersen 2020-03-28 01:34:59
Lcd pixels. Something in the anti-aliasing isn't working properly.
Ray Sears 2020-03-28 01:43:44
Alexandr Uhlik is the printer big enough for the bottom sections? And of course where did you get the STL? I grew up in Houston in 70s and spent a lot time with my rocket model, it was taller than me.
Mark Weller 2020-03-28 01:49:47
nice!
Pete Kastner 2020-03-28 02:03:15
Why can't you print at 15 degree angle?
Alexandr Uhlik 2020-03-28 02:17:52
Pete Kastner I just do not want to use any supports ;) to have a better surface :D :D :D . I will probably think about it. Thanks ;)
Brad Thomson 2020-03-28 07:55:12
not 100% but i think i heard the original photon doesnt anti alias, maybe the firmware 4.2.19 allows it, or in general does it better.
Nikola Pijanac 2020-03-28 09:29:29
The new firmware allows for anti aliasing you need to enable it in chitubox. Problem you could be having with your model is some normal's may be reversed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLgD88KFKJI&feature=youtu.be this can be done in meshmixer. The p roblem people have at times with oddball things happening to their meshes can be because of a multitude of reasons. I keep stressing that if you have a mesh it needs to be checked. Things like Netfabb and a multitude of other programs from free to commercial can do that. I think Cura can check meshes as well, I know its for fdm but if you check the mesh you can resave and use with the photon.
Nikola Pijanac 2020-03-28 09:34:38
Even though a mesh looks watertight in software, which compensates for the way a mesh looks on screen it doesn't mean its ok to print. When you slice in Chitubox take the time to look at the slices and see if you notice any abnormalities. Yes it could be pixels from the LCD, you'd really have to be unlucky. When artists create meshes they look at the monitor, looks ok, release the model. As to how the structure of the model is, well that becomes the users problem. Imagine it this way you have a building with a lovely facade, everything looks perfect on the outside but the frame on the inside is shot, falling apart or cobbled together. Take the extra minutes check your mesh and you will generally never have any issues again unless they are mechanical.
Alexandr Uhlik 2020-03-28 15:19:59
Ray Sears the CSM stack is my own creation. The rest of the rocket is the old Revell kit ?
Ray Sears 2020-03-28 19:03:20
Alexandr Uhlik nice work
原文網址 Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-22 21:24:25
So it’s looking like it’s working this time, quickly paused at roughly the same time as yesterday and there looks like a print on the build plate. Certainly an improvement from yesterday. Relevelled the plate, updated the firmware and set the bottom exposure to 80s so thanks to everyone for your tips yesterday, I know it hasn’t finished yet so touchwood. The irony would be pausing and restarting the print messes it up.
原文網址 Mi Ha 2020-03-22 17:10:38
I'm having a problem with the original photon slicer - I can't get it to slice the stl exported file from chitubox correctly. With the 5.0 firmware on the Photon S is it possible to print .photon files that chitubox exports? There's a lot of contradicting information about this, some say the compatibility has been restored and some say onle .pws files are supported.
Erivelton Silva 2020-03-22 17:15:12
Both files are compatible using fw 5.*
Mi Ha 2020-03-22 17:16:58
awesome, thank you!
Rik de Reus 2020-03-22 17:42:08
Erivelton Silva They are not using the newest fw. They used to work. Then stopped working. Then beginning fw 5 they worked again and now they don't. That's why all the contradicting information.
Mi Ha 2020-03-22 17:52:55
Rik de Reus So with the latest firmware from the official website it's not working anymore?
Rik de Reus 2020-03-22 17:56:08
Mi Ha correct. It's not working for me with the lastest fw from the Anycubic website.
Erivelton Silva 2020-03-22 21:04:06
Rik de Reus , I'm using V5.02 with my Photon (not S) and .pws and .photon working normaly. Is there any difference between the S version and the common version?
Mi Ha 2020-03-22 21:32:11
I just checked on mine and it's kinda random. Sometimes the .photon files show up and sometimes they don't. This is on 5.0.2 also.
Erivelton Silva 2020-03-22 21:34:09
Very strange .... for me, until now, the files generated by chitubox have always appeared.
