So this will be my first print ever and have watch a few videos but wanted to make sure and for some expert opinions. Do the supports look thick enough and plenty enough. Will be using siraya tech blu

do you need back side of this shield? If i wolud lean it back a bit to keep it on buildplate ;)

Chris Roberts
2020-03-24 04:08:35

You'll mostly get some curling out at the ends. If it's a flat surface the supports are attached to I'd print it directly to the bed.

Jimmy Clark
2020-03-24 04:11:24

ok thank you. What do you mean curling ? The part will curl ? Wasn’t sure you could print it directly in the bed. Just about everything I’ve seen shows supports on the bottom

Christopher Barnes
2020-03-24 04:12:12

I’d angle it back some and add more supports along the way. It will reduce the print time by a large margin.

Jimmy Clark
2020-03-24 04:12:23

Like this?

Jimmy Clark
2020-03-24 04:13:24

that is a removable panel/door so the back part of it will be seen and used a lot

Jimmy Clark
2020-03-24 04:14:49

could you explain how that will make the print time faster please?

Christopher Barnes
2020-03-24 04:19:44

Jimmy Clark your printer works one layer at a time. The taller the print, the more layers you will need.

By angling the print you cover a larger surface area at once.

If you were to lay it flat on the build plate it would take 30 minutes or so. But standing up depending on size it could take 14 hours.

Christopher Barnes
2020-03-24 04:21:11

Jimmy Clark i don’t know how printing flat on the plate would work. It would certainly make it harder to remove.

But printing it at an angle will allow more supports to be placed below and increase adhesion to the plate. In addition to also cutting print time down overall.

Chris Roberts
2020-03-24 04:39:42

Jimmy Clark
2020-03-24 05:59:54

Christopher Barnes laying other flat would use less support and less of a chance damage when removing the supports but would it make it that much harder to remove the print?

Jimmy Clark
2020-03-24 06:03:22

?

Christopher Barnes
2020-03-24 06:03:57

Jimmy Clark flat wouldn’t require any supports assuming the back is flat. It would also be the fastest. It’s possible to remove the item. I have never printed flat though.

You can also place stuck prints with the plate in the freezer for a little. It should just fall off once it gets cold enough.

Christopher Barnes
2020-03-24 06:05:22

Jimmy Clark angle more to make it lower and shorten print time. Add more supports and spread them around evenly. Also watch these videos if you haven’t.

Our response to the Coronavirus - Free content

https://drive.google.com/…/1Gxi7ENkSbrjOZMVoznUSCv2bLbhGgiVx

This is our initiative to make these trying times less hard for everyone.

Today at Archvillain Games we had some devastating news.
Today, one of our artists was admitted into the hospital with a serious case of COVID-19. We will not be disclosing the artist’s name as we value all privacy.

We were devastated to hear this and as the virus is closing in towards all corners of the globe, we need to stay safe and healthy.

We need to stay inside, spend time with our loved ones, play a game, paint a mini and count our blessings.

Archvillain Games and our team intends to give an extra incentive to the community to stay indoors and we can only do that by sharing some of our work with it for FREE.

Thus we are giving away some of the content that we made in March.

In the link below, find a free stl of our werewolf along with the monthly 5e module for those of you that play tabletop roleplaying games.
Feel free to share the link around, it will be there for around 30 days.

Our hopes and wishes is for everyone to remain safe and healthy.

We will get through this. Share the love. Keep the spirits up.

P.S. This initiative was backed by the massive majority of our patrons at www.patreon.com/archvillaingames as expressed on a poll, we thank our amazing patrons for this.

Cheers,
The Archvillain Games Team

*EDIT I have already leveled my plate as well as re sliced the file re-positioned the model remade the supports/added in extra supports for piece of mind Model is hollowed out and holes placed to reduce suction
Ive been having some failed prints lately, i couldnt figure out why until Ive been having some failed prints lately, i couldnt figure out why until now.
Its like the print isnt lifting far enough off of the FEP before going to the next layer. Im not sure why it started doing this, does anyone have any ideas? (The layers are sticking just fine to the plate, but the plate isnt going up high enough between layers.....i think anyway)
Usually when i print i can hear the print being pulled from the FEP screen (the peeling/suction sound) which tells me that the layers are being cured and working correctly.

James Capps yea thats what i started from, i havent had any issues printing miniatures, just lately this suction issue

James Capps
2020-03-23 11:58:00

James Swan thats really weird.. do you have a pic of what your printing with the holes you put for drainage/air?

James Swan
2020-03-23 12:06:13

James Capps The handle bit has a hole in the top and bottom, but it hasnt made it that far to even matter.
Im about to try it again without the handle and print that on its own.

James Swan
2020-03-23 12:16:13

James Capps so here is what comes out, I first thought it was leveling but I flipped the design and it happened in the same side as the first

James Swan
2020-03-23 12:16:51

And the other side always prints out fine

James Capps
2020-03-23 12:22:34

Did you create the supports in chitubox?

James Swan
2020-03-23 12:23:37

James Capps custom supports in chitubox yes

James Capps
2020-03-23 12:25:43

James Swan Every-time I have used chitubox for supports i have had a bad time. Maybe try again using prusa slicers auto supports and exporting the stl with supports and import into chitubox to slice.

James Capps
2020-03-23 12:27:51

James Swan if anything hopefully someone sees all the stuff you have done so far and chime in with some advice ?

Jacob Palmer
2020-03-23 18:38:57

From what I can see one of the raft layers is peeling up and seperating from the rest of the raft is that right?

Ivan Del Bene
2020-03-23 19:51:14

Usually I use only prusa for support.. Where did you find the handle? Is in scale to fit in your plate? ? ?

Sorry didn’t see your msg

What temperature is the room you're running the machine in. Sometimes low temp can cause delamination, but usually it happens in more than one layer...

big prints fascinate me and terrify me at the same time, never done one and am not feeling very confident!

I want a Bust to paint, never done one before so would be a good experience, but I dont know how to print it! as i said, it scares me lol

This model is hollow but the hole is on the bottom of the base, is that going to be a problem?

Dallas Winston Fitzgerald

I'd say the various islands are going to be a way bigger problem :x

John Chrapkowski
2020-03-23 09:15:43

Lift off the bed

Jennifer Tallman
2020-03-23 09:15:58

I prefer larger prints. You may want to put a few holes in the bottom, but they won't be a problem if you're adding supports under it. Also, tilt it back just a little so that flat bottom doesn't print all in one go.

Philip J Newman
2020-03-23 09:18:45

Biggest print I’ve done so far

Tom Barnes
2020-03-23 09:19:01

was that one piece!

Tom Barnes
2020-03-23 09:19:07

i was thinking of printing it with no lift at all

Philip J Newman
2020-03-23 09:19:36

Tom Barnes 10. It took 60 hours, 5 print beds

Tom Barnes
2020-03-23 09:20:10

not that many tbh, mostly the arrow fletchings and the braid bottom.
the ear lobes are floating though and the software wont place any supports there, manually or automatically :L

Philip J Newman
2020-03-23 09:22:54

You could print her way bigger, turn her sideways and add some supports, hollow with 3-4 holes on the bottom I bet you could get her to 5-5.5” tall

Ben Fairbank
2020-03-23 09:22:56

Tom Barnes then holes in the bottom won't help.

Piotr Kuśmierski
2020-03-23 09:29:31

I had printed this model with no problems, I may even have file with manual support ;-)

Tom Barnes
2020-03-23 09:42:38

if you do please can you share that with me! then I can analyse is and learn from it!

PM

James Capps
2020-03-23 11:28:19

Here is my workflow that I have for models like this

1. Hollow with chitubox and add some holes to prevent suction cupping preferably the bottom layers towards the plate. And export stl.

2. Open in prusa slicer and lean it back as to prevent supports on the face and to prevent a large flat surface on the plate. Refer to the beginners guide if you want more info why. Then add auto supports in prusa using the basic settings. reorient till you’re happy with the supports and export stl with supports.

3. Import hollowed stl with supports into chitubox and slice then look through the slice for any large islands and ad manual supports in chitu as needed. Once done take slice to the machine ?

Ps use really hot water to separate the supports after ipa but before cure

Attached a pic of my results

Liam Plotts
2020-03-24 01:06:17

I've had issues with holes on the bottom blending with the surrounding base, so make sure it's fairly large, I'd say 3 or 4mm. Tilting isn't necessary but will help drain as it prints instead of after.

Tom Barnes
2020-03-24 01:24:36

It's working so far

Resin Odor Question: I can currently printing in my garage with my Photon. I can't vent it outside other than opening the garage door itself. I had transparent green in a black bottle and it has a really strong odor. Anygubic transparent green in the brown bottle is better, but still smells.
