Hello everyone!

I've had my photon for about a week now and I'm having a blast learning, failing and testing! Been trying some of my own design the past few days and its loads of fun!

Overall I'm improving print per print but I'm just curious, the crystal skull got a white "frosting" on some parts after cleanup, or maybe it was even there right from the start.

I am cleaning using an ultrasonic cleaner filled with some all purpose cleaner and a dash of iso. Then I dunk them into a bath of iso for a few minutes and agitate little.

Finally I dunk them into a bath of deionized water and then a cure under a nail polish UV dome.

I am using the Anycubic eco resin.

Any ideas or tips are appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

What's the best way to print circular coin-like objects? I tried angling them at 45 degrees, but the circular shape causes the first part of the model to act as a lever against the few supports it has at that point.

Then i tried laying them flat like I would on an FDM printer, but I guess the Z cross section was too big because that had failed supports and warping.

Should I print them on their side straight up and down? Here's a screenshot for reference.

Took a few high tech unbelievable expensive super duper over the top machines to print these tiny little structures. And some fucked up old electron microscope you have to kick to make it work.
And then it turned out to be an almost perfect, almost no visible layering on the sub micron level, hardcore bad ass print.
Voxel size is 0.3 micron = 300 nm = 0.0003 mm, nominal layer height 100 nm, stepped by piezo drive.
Technique is 2 Photon Polymerisation, you can find some nice videos on that on YouTube (e.g. https://youtu.be/mdup3w7DCZE ).

I am about to sneak in a dragon to print or something... Video of live printing will be added soon.

Printing took about 15 minutes per structure.
Most are hollowed with internal support structure, no vent holes ;) each is about 80 micrometer in height, pics don't show the scale so good.

Also hive mind.. these structures shall serve as height and angle standards, somehow for electron microscopy. Has anybody another good idea to combine height and angular measures, in a compact shape or structure, or an array of scaled tiny somethings? Task is to probe these structures from above and to reconstruct the found heights and angles later on. Right now half sphere and standard pyramid are my favorites.

Enjoy some nanoscience :)

This is my 2nd attempt to print this part. This time I had to pause the print and most of the supports on the left side failed to recover from that. The bottom part which came out curved due to lack of support looks much better as I have added a bunch of them however other parts like the top cross cutout are still not 100% good and it seems I need to add even additional supports. I am wondering if I should simply increase the support density and let ChiTuBox run automatically or that will never be good enough?

Improvements from previous attempt: longer "off" time of 3.5 seconds. 10 base layers rather than 6 with 80 seconds on time.

Hello Guys,
So after 2 Months (bought on Sept 2 from Amazon) of using this wonderful Printer, the LCD screen finally croaked, not sure why though, I don’t think I reached 20 prints on it (fails and successes combined), anyway..
Seems it's a case of Frame shearing If I'm not mistaken (pics posted)
The print that failed was Artisan's guild free Bugbear Stl, which I printed once before successfully, this one printed 90% of the way until it failed on the spiked club and left that weird drag across the FEP.
LCD test is now a double rectangle. (ss attached) Tried this using 2 different USB sticks: Better Anycubic Photon LCD tester both fail miserably (ss + video attached) Dry printed a test Cube, safe to say it didn't work (ss + video)
Ordered and Elegoo Mars LCD screen from Amazon just in case I can't get this one working again, doesn’t hurt to have a replacement.
I'm currently running Firmware V4.2.12_LCDM.0 / 1440x2500 /F2.7
I'm a bit reluctant to upgrade the firmware since I know that can cause more issues rather than fix the problems, other things I'm thinking of doing before upgrading the FW is taking it apart and cleaning everything with IPA & detaching / reattaching the LCD screen.
Anything else I can try?
Is the screen still under warranty? AFAIK it's supposed to be 90 days, not sure though :/
Thank you! Bump 翻譯年糕

Hi All,

Bought my Photon in November last year from AnyCubic's eBay store. It sat in its box in my office until this last weekend when an opportunity presented itself to create something.

Unboxed it, set it up following the instructions and all was well apart from the plate not tightening up and when I tried to use it the USB port wasn't working.

Contacted Anycubic, Then found this site and the comments about the plug falling out of the motherboard during transit. Opened her up and sure enough that was the issue. Plug back in and USB stick is readable. So cancelled that ticket with Anycubic :-)

Dismantled the print plate to find the reason the grub screw was't working was there was already one deep in the hole.! Using that one the head could be levelled and locked in place. :-)

However. Now the unit wasn't working at all. Z-axis jammed stationary but making a motor drive noise like it was trying, fans not working and main LCD dead.

Contacted Anycubic (again) and their customer support have been extremely rapid and helpful. Sent me a print to run that generates a diagnosis file. When I sent it to them they assessed it as a faulty motherboard.

Asked for my delivery details for a replacement which I gave them and got a message today saying its on its way to me.!! The tracking info they gave me suggests its coming from local so fingers crossed unit will be all fixed and running very soon.

Bob

Hey guys, hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction.

Looking for a cool fire elemental and frost/ice/glass(?) Elemental for the D&D club I run in my school, kids were asking me if I could make one for them. Had a look on thingiverse but couldn't see anything on the frost/ice/glass side that looked the part

So running resin printers for a month now. 8 Units total. 7 Anycubic Photon S and 1 Elegoo Mars. I have learned a lot. I have been printing with FDM machines for 18 months and this resin world is very different but the same.

In the resin world I have seen some very odd stuff and some very cool ideals.

I need to say is that both worlds are needed at the moment due to size and cleanup of work.

The resin world aka SLA printing it is a little messy and the resin costs a LOT. You can get GREAT results from these printers but they are small, BUT bigger ones are on they way as the price drops.

You need to watch yourself and protect yourself at all times. GLOVES..... CLEAN UP.... Resin can cause issues.

For us and when you dispose of....

Next compare the Anycubic Photon S to The Elegoo Mars.

PROS

Anycubic Photon S

Bigger Z

A Little Faster

Elegoo Mars

Easier Bed Level System

Great Price

Adjustable feet on the printer for better machine leveling

I think the Build plate is better and prints come off easier.

CONS

Anycubic Photon S

Plastic Plastic Plastic

PRICE

Elegoo Mars

Very Loud Fan

You have to remove the WHOLE Cover off the printer

The USB jack is in the back and not a great connection

The power switch is in the back

Smaller Z height but unit is Taller.

Both units are Great machines it will come down later to Customer service and so on for choice change.

I have used both Anycubic and Elegoo Resins in both machines and no issues.

These style machines make great additions to you FDM machines or by themself.

Next when you buy a curing lamp aka UV lamp make sure your lamp is 405nm and not the others styles like 365/368 and so on. Those lover nm units will take longer to sure and might cause you issues.

But to All Good Luck Printing and HAVE FUN.

Thanks

Michael Enoches

please feel free to add to this or ask questions.

This is just my info.
