Hey fellow Photonsters!

First of all, sorry for the long post. Have a potato ? ?

When I joined this group I was a total noob at 3d printing and I knew it wasn't going to be easy. I ran in to a few problems while printing and decided to ask the group. Everyone was really helpfull and thanks to that, I fixed most of the problems! ?? And as a bonus, I got to learn a lot about this printer. Now I will try to pass on my knowledge and show you my step by step preparation for printing. I'll also add some tips I wish I knew off when I first started printing. Feel free to try them or completely ignore them, it's up to you ?

?️ I'll start with some links wich will help you understand your Photon and get you ready for printing.

1. A link to the FAQ on the Photonsters github page. Full of tips&tricks so a must see for the newbies ?

https://github.com/…/anycubic-photon-do…/blob/master/FAQ.md…

2. Anycubics youtube channel shows you videos wich will help you getting started with the Photon.

Anycubic Photon: https://www.youtube.com/playlist…

3. This channel shows you the solutions to almost all problems thay you'll run in to while printing. You'll find videos about cleaning the printer and replacing parts.

Photon Problems Solving: https://www.youtube.com/playlist…

4. Very usefull video wich shows you how to properly level your printer.

https://youtu.be/qEaNVfT8y9w

?️ Once you've got to know your printer a little better, cleaned your VAT, checked your FEP, checked your LCD, leveled the bed and tightened the screw (I mean, really really tight! If it's tight enough you can keep printing without having to re-level for a while ?? ) it's time to start printing awesome prints! ?

To achieve the best results, and save resin, I start with printing some test/calibration prints. Not the most exciting models to print, but trust me, it's totally worth it ?

The following links contain the files and programs I use every time I start using a new Resin.

1. Anycubic Photon resin settings. This file contains an overview of the resins used by members and the settings they got succesfull prints with. These settings are a good starting points but changes might be needed for finetuning.
https://docs.google.com/…/1crvzMnt_8NJXAsABinoIhc…/htmlview…

2. The resin xp-finder. This is a file wich will help you find the right exposure settings for your resin. You'll need to run the printer in a test-mode so it can use different exposure times in one print. You can print 2 different tests, one at 0.025mm and one at 0.05mm.

⚠️ Make sure to run your printer in print-mode once you get back to printing other stuff than the resin xp-finder ⚠️

I will add a pic wich shows you how to read the printed result ?

https://github.com/…/photon-resin-calibrat…/releases/tag/1.2

3. The matrix calibration test. This is a test print that shows you different types of details in one print. It's also pretty fast and can be printed flat on the bed.

3D printer Calibration Matrix found on # Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:165389

After printing, you can scrap it off the buildplate and start cleaning and curing. (I'm using an ultrasonic cleaner filled with resinaway and an nailstudio uv light as an curing station)

Most of the time I print the matrix with 3 or 4 different exposure times. So one with 12s, one with 13 etc. I compare them to see wich one gives the best results.

4. The last test print I print before i start with the real deal, is the Ameralabs Town. This is a very nice looking and very usefull testprint wich I really like ??

https://ameralabs.com/blog/town-calibration-part/

Once finished, it's time to start printing models! ?? ??

Use the settings, wich gave the best results, for your model and be amazed by the results you can achieve ?

?️ Last but not least, there is something wich kinda bothers me.. ?

I see a lot of problems posted on this page. But most of the time the post only shows a photo of an failed print and the almighty question: "What's the problem?"

So please, if you decide to post your problems, add additional information such as slicer settings/ support settings/resin type/oriantation/hollowed or not hollowed/cleaning method/products used and stuff like that. This will make it easier for everyone to help you fix your problem. Oh, and definetly add photos ?

Huge thanks to all the people who developed and created the files and videos posted above and I hope you guys find this post usefull ?

Enjoy printing! ? ??

Hey everyone first off thanks for all the help, this group is awesome. I am working with clear resin and I am trying to keep it optically clear. I am having issues with both it becoming yellow from the UV light and it becoming frosted. What can I do to avoid these issues? Thanks so much ?

If any one can help please guys. Iv installed a new screen after old one was not displaying anything any more, and UV test works perfectly now. When i try and print a design all i get is this image layer after layer. Iv updated the firmware and iv checked all cables.

I have a few questions for this wonderful group :
Currently my printer is in my bedroom and i would like to install it on my balcony.

1- How is the resin reacting to day light ?
2- Should I avoid direct sun ray only ?
3- Can I open the bottle and pour the resin in the printer while indirect cloudy sky light hits the vat ?

I'm considering buying a garden furniture to stock the printer and print outside, obviously I need a UV proof one. But how's reacting the printer to low temperature 0-15°C ? For printing and storing ?

Thanks a lot

I live in a studio so the fumes from the printer are a bit more of an issue - I don't really have anywhere else to put my printer.

I mostly run it with my balcony door wide open and a fan, and only when I'm at work, but still gives me headaches sometimes on the weekends (and worried about my dog ? )

I know people have built containers/covers to keep out UV light before the photon used the yellow panes, I'm wondering if making a container out of HEPA filters would reduce/contain the smell, or if the particles are too small? Has anyone tried anything similar? If not I might give it a go and report back on results.

Thank you for the add. My photon will be at my door tomorrow and I am very excited. Own multiple FDM printers but this will be my first SLA. I have taken some points from others posts and ordered a salad spinner and a UV nail curer. Are there any other tips that anyone can give me to help me set it up and get it running good?
