Question about resin prints. . . what kind of heat resistance do resin prints have? Could you for instance use them to print a fan vent for your FDM printer (the one I have now is PETG.

I did this but the Anycubic gray resin I used was brittle and broke in a few places. I used it anyway and it held up to the heat just fine

Hi Guys, this is going to be interesting.

So as you know I design a lot of scale parts for my RC helis - this means parts are exposed to vibration, elements, wind - the works.
So far for the small scale fittings I was doing prints on Anycubic Photon (Ameralabs and Siraya resins) and if something had more curviture or was bigger - Peopoly Moai.
FDM was used only for big parts. Now after finishing building my e3d tool changer I decided to optimized my Prusa MK3S for fine detail printing
- prints with ASA
- layer height of 0.05mm (most of my photon prints i do at 0.04 or 0.05)
- 0.15mm nozzle (so twice the diameter of Peopoly Moai laser, photon res is 0.047 by 0.047 but obviously this means aliasing)

I wanted to see how much detail I can get
And I do have to say - to a naked eye there is no loss of fidelity, even under a microscope the difference in detail is managable.

Prints have to be done with ABS or ASA (petg or pla may clog)
Benefits
- parts are lighter, the wire cutter on fdm was 3g vs 8g resin (ASA density is 1.09g/cm3 vs resin that is on 1.35,also can do very thing permiters i.e 0.45mm)
- parts are stronger

Drawback
- marginal loss of fidelity
- print times on average 3x of how long it would tool on photon with 12s exposure.

Oh, acetone smoothing on more organic parts - wow!

I use this tool so often for cleaning support marks on my resin prints, polishing surfaces before painting and just for graving.

Used PETG to make it a little bit stronger than normal PLA and the color fits just perfect.

hello guys!! i am using an elegoo abs-like resin!! but i dont know how strong it is!! does anyone test it somehow??? i want to make something for my fmd printer( a part), cause i cant use atm my fdm to make it from petg, cause something broke :D

so my idea is to make that part i want from resin just to hold enough for 1-2 print to be able my fdm to work again , and then to print that part again with petg! mind blow! :D

Anyone have suggestions on how to package products printed on photon to sell in a store *miniatures* and so on. I was considering a Vacuum forming machine with PETG clear plastic sheets to conform around miniature for better protection. However, I am concerned the pressure may fracture the resin. I would love to pick your collective brains.

Experimenting with a incubator heater. So far so good. The housing is just temp as it was the only colors i had floating around at the time. Going to use black PETG when it gets here. The housing barely gets warm which is a plus. Setting the heater is easier said than done, but its getting there.

Update, I had an email from the manufacturer of the heaters and they told me "Regarding IncuKit Mini heaters. The circuit board has a function if the fan stops turning it cuts power to the heaters. So it is protected". So its a lot more safer than those PTC heaters!

Thought id share my new curing box. ...
Its a fdm printed box, in petg, then the interior lined with aluminium foil, then 5M of 5050 uv leds on every surface, including the door.
The bottom has a 2mm sheet of acrylic to hold the models just off the leds.
Oh and yes thats a baby, photon printed version inside :)

Today's tip: When taking a screen shot of one of your resin profiles in Chitu, make sure to change it *back* to the profile for the material that's *actually* in your vat before slicing and starting a new print job. ? ? ?

Absent-minded me has done it with my filament machines too, like trying to extrude PETG at PLA temps. That's also somewhat... prone to failure. :)
