Hi, I got my photon zero two days ago and cant get the slicing software to open at all, it just wont go past the initialising screen which only stays up for a few seconds then nothing happens. Obviously with the Zero having a different extension to other printers its going to be really hard to get it to work without the software. I have downloaded the file from the Anycubic site and the same thing happens, not sure if my pc is to powerful (windows 10, 8gb, 1gb graphics card), but I am at a lose as I can only print the test file that came with the machine.
I have the latest version of Cura but that doesnt seem to have a setting for the Photon Zero and likewise have downloaded Z Suite.
can anyone help at all

Have you tried ChiChuBox?
Marc Farrimond 2020-03-29 03:40:05
Yes but there is no settings for the Zero Ryan sadly
Leonard Grubbs 2020-03-29 04:08:44
Just go into Chitubox setting and click on add printer. Go to other and select default 1. Type in your resolution and the bed size and rename the profile to a name of your choice.
Evan Boone 2020-03-30 13:45:40
lol you think 8gb and a 1gb gpu is TOO powerful?! nah man something is likely wrong within your system. do you do yearly os resets? i find not doing so will usually result in issue like this. also i recomend chitubox and prusa slicer over the included software. anycubic's software is just a rip-off version of chitubox with less functionality. even if you dont see settings for your printer, you can enter then manually easily.

Does anyone have any experience with this exposure test? What’s your opinion of the result? (I know this isn’t the preferred test, but I’ve given up on reading the other one, every time someone posts one I try to read it and EVERYONE picks very different settings than I saw ? .) This one is exposed with 0.05 layer height, with 115s on the bottoms layers and 18s normal. The circled area are thin risen areas I accidentally crunched while cleaning. Resin is AnyCubic Gray. Thanks for any insights you can offer!

It'd look good if a hammer and sickle were in the star haha
David Collinson 2020-03-29 00:12:29
It looks heavily overexposed to me
Lee Furry 2020-03-29 00:17:10
That was my thought as well, this one was exposed at 80s bottom and 8s normal, and seemed horrible underexposed. I guess I’ll split the difference
Anders Scot Hudson 2020-03-29 00:18:58
100% I don’t know who dude was that put 18 seconds on “the sheet” but 7-8 seconds is plenty

Having issues printing dnd minis. Been to keeping with the settings with no success. They start printing but it's not sticking to the platform so the whole print fails. Any advise would be welcome

So you end up with a thin wafer that’s a shadow of the model? Or a half printed model that falls off the plate?
Randy Roones 2020-03-27 13:45:15
Neither. The first layer wont stick the plate
Randy Roones 2020-03-27 13:46:27
I've level the plate, set z. This is my first print other then the set up print
Thrall Hood 2020-03-27 13:50:04
I use prusa for auto orientation and supports
Randy Roones 2020-03-27 13:55:56
Prusa?
罗西晟 2020-03-27 13:59:28
Not sticking to the platform:usually has 1 of 2 (or both) issues: (however there is a third) 1) Z=0 not set tight enough (from "home" go down until it is really tight! and then go up 0.3mm) 2) Base layer exposure not high enough (try up base layer exposure with 10 seconds) 3) your build platform is greasy due to your skin touching contact surface. (clean build plate contact surface (with alcohol) and let it dry, make sure no residue is left)
Randy Roones 2020-03-27 14:08:17
Aight. I'll try those out
Mark Wardle 2020-03-27 15:20:04
dial up the base exposure by 10 till the bases stick
Randy Roones 2020-03-27 18:13:29
Still adjusting the base exposure but is the rest ok? Using chitubox splicer
Patrick Haeflinger 2020-03-27 20:31:46

What resin and what Photon are you using?
Anders Jens Ramm 2020-03-26 04:21:59
Miles Redman 2020-03-26 04:26:20
Generally, I produce my heroic scale miniatures at 50 micron unless they are particularly ornate or it’s a special request.
Miles Redman 2020-03-26 04:30:04
Two thin coats of a nice primer seem to gloss over any visible layering other than that dang everpresent and slight z wobble
Ryan Tudor 2020-03-26 04:35:39
I have gradually started printing closer to 35mm scale (maybe this is considered heroic?). In so doing I feel pike alot of the details show and when I split a model up into parts they aren't so tiny that they're annoying to assemble.
Ryan Tudor 2020-03-26 04:37:19
I like to print .03 layer height for medium/tiny & .05 for anything large or bigger
Jason Walter 2020-03-26 05:56:21
Brendan Wood photon s and photon grey resin
Anders Jens Ramm 2020-03-26 06:00:04
Ryan Tudor what do you set your expo time to?
Ryan Tudor 2020-03-26 06:09:41
Anders Jens Ramm that mostly depends on resin and the temperature of your work space. Right now my jam is siriya fast grey. It is way more flexible than elegoo so I get less breakage. I may have traded some detail since switching but idk. Since I'm roughly 22°c (optimum is 25 i think?) I get good results with 6sec @ .03 and 10sec @ .05
John Bubuz 2020-03-26 06:24:10
The same for the Gamesworkshop miniatures
Joshua DeBoe 2020-03-26 08:17:44
35 mm is way past "Heroic", generally I would expect that to refer to 28mm. "Heroic" also in conjunction with the above refers to certain traits in the sculpting - larger heads, hands, weapons, etc. Then there are issues with the evolution of 25 into 28 and people selling "Heroic 28" that are 30 mm or more...
Ryan Tudor 2020-03-26 08:51:55
Joshua DeBoe thanks for that, I was blindly talking out of my ass. You are right, I shouldn't have used numbers when I do all my sizing to an stl scale. You definately bring up a better point in that you really need to check the sizing of all your mo dels in order to give it the best continuity you can manage. Most designers just do their own thing so keep a look out. One exception I make is mz4250. He consistently and thoroughly makes models true to their sources. 35mm is way too tall. But I might give a major villain or an encounter boss alot more stature by scaling them to be abnormally tall. Maybe 32mm? Be careful though, especially when scaling down. You can thin weapons and parts to a point that the photon can't print it.
Ryan Tudor 2020-03-26 08:53:17
Or perhaps the photon can, but I can't
Joshua DeBoe 2020-03-26 08:56:09
Ryan Tudor Yeah I just had some prints that were labelled 1:700 but were more like 1:575 or thereabouts. Only 20 mm too long...
Ryan Tudor 2020-03-26 09:02:11
Joshua DeBoe do you have a workflow for measuring using exact numbers? Is there a preferred software you like?
Joshua DeBoe 2020-03-26 09:07:23
Ryan Tudor So far I am working with model ships, so I just look up the real measurement, calculate the scale length, and then resize the model appropriately. I do allow for some scale creep - for example, I didn't resize the French 118-gunner down as much as I should have, because I want it to look big and impressive on the table next to the regular 74's.
Danny Gonzalez 2020-03-26 11:37:31
It tends to be a battle between print detail and support damage. I have had decent success with reducing my exposure times and increasing the size of my light supports to get better detail. Again highly resin dependent.
Diego Gonzalez del Rio 2020-03-26 20:24:53
Orientation. It sound weird but it's the main problem with the layers. For example with female minis you want to avoid print them straight because the bossom will end with marks.

What's the recommended distance and lift speed setting? Is there one?
推薦的距離和提升速度設定是什麼? 有嗎?
Andrew Storlie 2020-03-24 21:59:48
Id assume different for every resin. But slower is always better. I only lift about 10mm
Mike Tree 2020-03-24 22:03:23
According to Boris, the recommended distance is 2 metres.

Mark Anthony Vasquez 2020-03-23 05:09:02
Depends on the resin, Elegoo Skin and Grey seem to do good for me at 10s and the Elegoo Clear Green and Red are 12s. Using Prusa for orientation and 70% supports and Chitubox to slice
Shawn Spradling 2020-03-24 03:35:00

This maybe a stupid question...can you get dodgy bottles of resin? I have a bottle of grey and black anycubic and a bottle of elegoo clear blue. All recommendations the same 60/8 seconds. This is what I have set out to in the slicer. was using the Anycubic grey and getting great results (pic 1). I then switched to the black Anycubic (same settings) to print a simple base for a model. I've tried upright, 45 degrees, flat, all raised on supports etc but 5 failed prints. Either supports breaking, not sticking to build plate, but mostly resin forming on the FEP which I've had to empty and peel off (pic 2 and 3). I thought it was the screen so swapped to translucent blue, exactly the same settings, could see the screen working through the resin , and it printed a random print perfectly first go (last pics) ?♂️ what's going on with this black resin?

Anycubic skin 0.03 at 4s, bottom 8 layer at 90s
I'm surprised that came well, a few supports failed bit I'm gonna fixed to print again
