Anycubic Photon Printer Owners 造訪社團 » FDM

The FAQ here is great! A few things it didn't cover, that if you can point me into the right direction would be great.

A.) Optimal part orientation? (Yes I know prusa slicer does this - and you can use that as part of your work flow - cool) - BUT what is it doing? I know there is more resolution on the z then the XY, so why is it tilting the part better? How does it know what is the best compromise?!?!? And how can I outsmart it?

B.) I'm new to SLA, so what kind of long term testing has there been with resins subject to the outdoor environment? Where can I read about that more?

Thanks!

(PS - I'm not spring chicken, I have 5 FDM machines, and work for Adafruit, so no need to treat me like a total newbie! )

3D Print Design Challenge - I'm reaching out to people smarter as well as have more time than me. Originally I had planned to reverse engineer what I use, but due to rehabilitation from an operation thought it best to reach out to others since it can be a benefit to other users.

One of the main contributors to inconsistent resin prints is due to resin not being mixed thoroughly. When resin sits on a shelf, even for a couple weeks, simply shaking it is enough to get the buildup at the bottom. I use a spatula to mix up the stuff at the bottom short term. Long term though use a cheap amazon hot dog roller. The positive is that it is cheap ($15-30) compared to a scientific bottle roller ($1000+), but the negatives are it is cheap, breaks, poor design and not really designed for resin bottles.

I believe there can be a design that could be FDM/SLA/DLP printed, combined with power, electronics, controller ( Arduino Dieni ?) for the motor, rollers that could be created. Or maybe someone has already done this and I am just not searching for the right keywords.

Confession time: how many of you thought that switching from FDM to SLA will be easier than it actually was?

We have compiled a list of 9 misconceptions we often see around here.

*Edit* Sorry for posting the wrong pre-paint pic. It’s fixed now.

So for anyone contemplating the Photon, this is my fourth print from the Photon.....ever! My first was to ensure I had it set up right, and stopped 5 minute in, and the next two had support (placement) failures. I am experienced with the Prusa Mk3 (amazing printer), but I picked up painting minis in the past month as a hobby, and needed a better printer for the purpose. I watched a bunch of videos on supports from 3DPrintingPro, did the exposure test, and here I am, 4th print.

Now, before anyone cracks on my painting skills, I’m trying to get my coordination back after I suffered a traumatic brain injury and brain bleed. My fine motor skill is shot. ?

All I came here to say is that if you do your homework on this thing before jumping in, it’s truly a breeze. I’ve had a lemon FDM printer before and understand if anyone is going through that with their Photon, but man, mine is a keeper.

Gushing post over!

HELP!!!!! ;) Ok, so I have been rocking some great FDM prints and decided to jump into SLA. With the recent deals on the Photon, I decided it was time to take the plunge. It arrives and I am thinking great, lets crack it open and see what we can do. Clean out all the packing materials, read the manual, install the slicer, watch a few videos, then a few more on leveling the print bed, and determine what my first print will be. Great, lets get started! Bed level seems easy enough, printer in a good stable spot, pour in some resin. Queue up a small miniature of a skeleton. no need for supports, this should be a dream. Slice (50 sec first layer, 0.05mm), copy to usb, print. Uhm, ok, so what I end up with is the first layer sticking to the FEP. OK, Dr. Google what do you have to say. Bad bed level, get it closer. Really? hrm, ok, remove VAT, put in paper, home, up/down, paper is snug, can pull it but not push it, hold plate, tighten. Same result. Lets try again, paper is snug, a bit tighter than before, same result. Re-slice with 90 second first layer, still no joy. Re-level again, paper is very tight, pulls with a lot of resistance, had gone all the way down on the LCD, then up I think 0.05mm. No good. Change 1st layer exposure to 120, re-level, no good. What else can I be looking at to help with this. On the plus side, I have some awesome translucent green poker chips. ;)

Is there any kind of list of what resins to use for what purpose? Yeah, I know.. dental is used for dental prints, castable are probably used for like lost material casting etc.. but what else can they be used for? Extra toughness prints? Extra heatresistance for like engine parts? Extra fine detail? ABS/PETG/NYLON/Carbonfiber FDM filament equivalent areas?
