I am about to buy my first clear resin for making some chess pieces. If I recall correctly I thought I saw people talking about how to make clear resin as clear as possible. Any specific tips? Any resin that people suggest?

Somebody said cure them underwater, I'd like to know if this really works. UV Protective lacquer apparently exists too, which prevents yellowing, but I've no idea what it is or where to get it!

From my experience the best parts you can get are made with two different resins. The first is applylabs MSLA clear , 10 second post cure (underwater if you wish) after it is cleaned in IPA, but I use Denatured Alcohol from Home Depot. The ither resin is polyjuice water washable, but its gotten expensive and hard to find. Then usually automotive 2 part urethane clear coats have UV protective qualities that will protect your print after the build lines are sanded out. The clear makes the matted, frosted look go yo a much better optically clear look.

I have glass clear prints that are over a year old sitting in direct sunlight, I used Monocure rapid clear, make sure your print settings dont over expose it or it will yellow. Clean with ipa or metho or whatever your cleaner of choice is. I cure in th e Aussie sun, 15 to 20 mins max should cure it (scratch a bit with your nail, should leave a mark if it is cured) then 2 coats of semi gloss tamiya clear or the gloss clear and barring any unforeseen issues it'll be clear. If it goes yellow in the sun you've left it out too long, if it does after the clear coat you missed a spot with the gloss

Monocure clear...watch your exposure carefully...little to no post-cure, and coat with a good quality uv-blocking clear coat

It's more about the resin than anything, most will yellow because of the cheap chemicals they use, better resins stay clear

So I am making these parts for a guy and about half way up it is getting a weird texture to it. I made 6 of these and all of them to varying degrees had the same kind of surface imperfections show up. I printed 5 of them (actually 6 but one failed so I had to redo it) right next to each other and so I was thinking that I was just not able to clean in between them quickly enough, but the 6th one that I did separately I was able to clean very well and did not have anything next to it that interfered. I have seen this before though not very often. I am wondering if the orientation of the part being perpendicular to the build plate is part of the problem after it gets that far out of the vat. What do you guys/gals think?

So I have always been interested in getting a scanner for reverse engineering parts and things. Does anyone know of one that is decent and affordable? I keep on seeing this one in my facebook feed. Anyone gotten one before?

Hive mind,
I am having this issue with this particular print. I am printing about 20 of these at a time and for some reason there is a strange layer that appears and slices through the parts.

The first time it happened I was certain I knew why it happened. I paused the print like normal to make sure the parts were adhered to the build plate but that time I actually opened the door to look closer. After seeing this I was certain that is what happened, I figured I cured a skin onto the top of my resin pool in my vat and that is where this came from. Except I did it a second time an I never paused it or did anything with it this time and got the same results at the same layer location. The only thing I can think of is that for some reason in the slicer it programmed a brief single layer of UV that went to these areas. Other that that I am stummped. I am going to re-layout the models and re-slice it and see what happens but even assuming that works I want to know why this happend. Anyone have any thoughts?

What are the best FEP films to get? I just replaced mine for the first time and want to make sure I have some on hand for replacement just in case I need it.

I am going to a gaming convention to set up as a vendor and I plan on taking my FDM printer to draw people in. I am also considering taking my anycubic photon to do the same but I have some concerns about public health and safety with that one. All of the things I have read before and after purchasing my printer about the toxicity of the resin mostly concerns direct contact, and this is not my main concern, I would not allow anyone to be in a position to come into contact with uncured resin. However I am wondering about the fumes. I have read conflicting information regarding if the fumes are dangerous or not. And not even conflicting really, what I read said that the fumes are unpleasant but harmless. I say conflicting in reality because if the resin itself is dangerous then perhaps the small amount that gets up into the air as fumes could perhaps be dangerous as well.

Can anyone actually give me an absolute answer on this? Sited references would be preferred so I can read over it some more.

I am pretty new to resin printing and so I have allot to learn so I figured you guys/gals can point me in the right direction lol.

I am making this part with my FDM and resin printer so I have a good comparison between the two.

I printed the following part and just did it flat on the build plate. When I did the bottom fused together, and I had to throw them away. I am thinking I need to maybe use supports to get it off of the table to get it out of the longer exposure time (not to mention it was a beast to pry these things off of the build plate with so much surface area).

I wanted to see if anyone has any other suggestions before I make another attempt.
