I'm working my way through the concept of setting up my first model to print. This is something that my 10 year old son deigned in Desktop Hero 3d. I ran auto supports in Prusa Slicer 2.1.1. I was hoping it would help me understand the concept of supports, but now I'm more confused. Is there no need for any support on the sword? It sure looks to me like there should be. Any help or direction toward something that will explain the why of supports would be appreciated.

So I've never printed anything with a resin printer. I have an Anycubic Photon arriving this week, so I was messing about with an STL file that I really want to print out. Unlike FDM printing, I know nothing about this (other than what I've viewed in videos). I know I need to hunt down the spreadsheet with the values for the various resins, but I was curious about this set up -- specifically the supports. Why is the base of the mini lifted and put on supports rather than just being flat against the print bed where it could be... flat? Should I get rid of the supports under the base of the mini? Thanks!
