James Lin 2015-11-26 22:48:46
Charlie Ting 2015-11-26 22:50:00

What about printing with ABS?
By mistake I ordered a spool of ABS filament instead of PLA. Should I return it for PLA, or can Atom2 print OK with ABS as well? If so what would be a good temperature to start with?
Clarence Lee 2015-11-25 12:17:01
戴士偉 did it without heatbed!
You will need to modify your atom a lot.
André Medborg 2015-11-25 15:16:52
230 - 240 degrees c. So you need to double the heater ring get a heated bed and mod the os. But then you should be able to do it. ABS emits toxic fumes so make sure its ventilated.
Birk Binnard 2015-11-25 16:15:11
Sounds like returning it for exchange of PLA is my best bet

2 questions about the teflon tubing material:
1. Is there a place from which I can order a piece of teflon tube that will fit the Atom2 hot end?
2. What is the diameter of the hole in the top half of the Atom2 hot end?
Background:
Several months ago I was unable to feed filament and I discovered the problem was that I had somehow burned the end if the teflon tube inside the hot end. By mistake I had discarded the leftover teflon tube after finishing the assembly of my printer, so I tried to find a place from which to order a new piece.
I was told the size of the Atom2 tube was 3mm outside diameter & 2mm inside diameter (3/2mm OD/II) but I discovered that here in the US the only 2mm ID tube was 4mm OD. So to get around the problem I just cut off the burned part of the tube and put the remainder back in the hot end. Fortunately this worked OK.
Later on I found a place in the US that sold 3/2mm OD/ID tube and bought some. Today I had to disassemble my hotend to clear a jam of PLA and I thought I would replace the old cut off tube with a new piece the proper length. But I quickly discovered the 3/2mm OD/ID tubing I bought would not fit.
It turns out the 3/2mm OD/ID tubing is actually about 3.2 - 3.5 mm OD and the tubing in the Atom2 is actually 2.92 - 2.95 mm OD. This is not much of a difference but it is enough to render the tubing I bought useless.
So that is the reason for my 2 questions - even though my printer is working OK with the cut off tube I'd like to have some spare tubing available just in case. I was unable to measure the diameter of the hole in the hot end's top half but it seems to be very slightly smaller that 3mm.
Clarence Lee 2015-11-24 08:11:50
1. http://www.mcmaster.com/...... Find PTFE TUBING, and make sure it's temperature could over 260 celsius 2. OD 3mm(a little small is ok, such as 2.9~2.7) ID over 1.75mm, usually 2mm
Clarence Lee 2015-11-24 08:13:22
There are also some tips to use tools to extend the 3.2mm tube from both ends to narrower.
Birk Binnard 2015-11-24 08:35:08
Excellent! Thanks Clarence.
Clarence Lee 2015-11-24 08:52:19
maybe no that small one on McMaster... try ebay or somewhere. It's not heavy, maybe you can bought from jp http://jp.misumi-ec.com/vona2/detail/110400385410/...... 日本代购 said he could shipping to TW, not sure he would like to shipping to US or not.
Birk Binnard 2015-11-24 11:19:42
Bummer - McMaster has either 4/2 or 3/1 but no 3/2. What if I drilled out the hole in the hotend top half to 4mm diameter?
André Medborg 2015-11-24 15:52:08
What does the guys from Layer One say. I mean they should just send you the tube. You should definitely NOT drill the hotend. Besides it is very hard to drill precise !
Birk Binnard 2015-11-25 11:20:00
What is Layer one? The TubeF13010 Clarence mentioned above looks like exactly the right thing, but it doesn't look like they ship to the US or accept US dollars.
André Medborg 2015-11-25 15:21:06
What does the Atom guys say about you buying this tube directly from them? Seems like the obvious thing to do.

Table lamp
This is my first practical design for a printable desk lamp. The lamp has 2 separate parts: the base and the shade. The base holds the light source which is a standard 68mm/2.75" diameter LED "puck" light that is powered by 3 AAA batteries. I bought 3 of these lights at Lowes for $9.98 batteries included. The photos show the lamp base with the puck, the lamp lit in a totally dark room sitting on a grey bedspread, and the lamp on my desk both lit and unlit.
Here is a link to the puck light:
http://www.lowes.com/pd_406110-43768-NS511-R6-306_1z0y4gqZ1…
I originally designed the base to hold some sort of wall-powered light (I found a very cool color-changing LED lamp that has a nifty remote comtrol), so it allowed for a space through which the power cord could pass. But I was unable to find a socket that fit the base, so I substituted the LED puck light instead. With this design you actually don't need the base at all - the shade can sit right on a table top with the light inside it if you prefer. I do plan on redesigning the base by giving it a more organic shape that better suits the overall shade design.
The base for this design prints in about 3 hours, and the shade requires about 7 hours. I used a 0.200 mm layer height for both parts. Note that the shade presents only a small surface area in contact with the print bed, so it is necessary to use a brim when printing. For my print I used a brim of 6 loops, with each loop = 0.400 mm.
My next design will feature this same shade but with twisted ribs on the outside.
