2nd attempt finished and looking really good, I know it’s only the test print but it’s only my 2nd day with the Anycubic Photon. Again thanks for your words of wisdom. Post printing left in warm soapy water for a few minutes whilst putting the resin back and then cured in uv light for a couple of minutes, not perfect but decent start, now onto my own designs.

What did you clean the vat with now we can’t get IPA?

Daniel Weatherhead

Most of the resin was poured out so just used a tissue to wipe and warm soapy (fairy liquid) water again with a tissue to wipe clean now left to dry.

So I've spent about an half an hour searching around and it seems the general consensus is as long as you clear coat things they are generally safe for casual wear. So if I put a nice clear coat on these would they be safe to wear as necklaces? I made this last night in Fusion 360 and printed it, all my friends thought it was hilarious and wanted one of their own. Just a little something to commemorate surviving the great "Toilet Paper Crisis of 2020" without having to resort to hoarding. From my experience by the time these things are cleaned and set out in the sun for a couple of days, I can't detect any scent of resin. I would think with the clear coat to seal anything inside that they would be generally safe to wear. They're probably not going to be worn against the skin or for extended periods of time either. I have some protectaclear that's designed for metal jewelry which is a pretty tough clear coat. I might try that stuff. I wouldn't try this with something like a ring or earrings that are going to have closer contact with the skin.

I would interested in the stl for these

Keith Yinger
2020-03-23 04:27:36

Ernest Sandridge Ill I saw Aaron's post and his keychains roll. Looked on thingiverse and didn't see an stl so I made these in fusion 360. I'm by no means an expert in Fusion 360 but this was a pretty simple design. A couple of circles and a couple of tangential lines, then extrude and there's a toilet paper roll.

Aaron Strome
2020-03-23 04:30:04

this is the one i ended up making in the end the one i posted wouldn't print the extra paper area. but this one works.

Keith Yinger
2020-03-23 04:30:30

Aaron Strome nice. Those look even better than mine. They have pleats and more texture and everything. Like I said I'm a complete new but 3D modeling so I thought I was doing pretty good to get a nice looking roll as I did haha

Aaron Strome
2020-03-23 04:33:28

you did a great job. i'm still trying to learn fusion 360. i find myself spending so much time fixing models i find online i really want to learn to make them.

Keith Yinger
2020-03-23 04:33:45

Aaron Strome ahh. Ya mine got a little weird at the start of the extra bit but it started after a few layers. it just kind of adds a bit of a torn corner look.

Aaron Strome
2020-03-23 04:35:08

few of mine turn out like that too but thought it added to it..

Keith Yinger

Having a few problems using the resin works violet HD resin, for some reason my prints are not printing on to the build platform and sticking to the Fep film!

I have attached a screenshot of my settings below what would you suggest changing?

increase your bottom layer count (2 is too low). Also worth leveling again and checking fep tension

Matthew Burton
2020-03-23 01:07:10

Great thank you what would you personally change it to?

Zena Andreou
2020-03-23 01:07:46

8 should be sufficient

I agree, bump up the bottom layer count to at least 5. If after re leveling it still isn't staying on the plate, bump up bottom exposure time. I've been going as high as 120 seconds on bottom layers with this resin.

Matthew Burton
2020-03-23 17:04:03

John Rudisill Thanks man will give it another go!

Matthew Burton
2020-03-23 17:19:59

John Rudisill What settings do you currently use for the most detail in your prints?

John Rudisill
2020-03-23 19:39:25

Matthew Burton I have been doing .05 at 19s. I do not like this resin that much but it works. Harz labs red prints better in my opinion. I might finally give bluecast a go once this bottle is finished if I don't come across something cheaper that's worth trying.

Matthew Burton
2020-03-23 19:46:28

John Rudisill Okay great if it isn't to much of a hassle could you please take a screenshot of your settings in chitubox just saves me keep wasting resin form messing up the settings! and great to hear going to give something else a go aswell after I finish this bottle

i want to change from the anycubic green to the anycubic black resin. So i think i should make the r_e_r_f test that is on my originial anycubic usb stick, right?

but i cant change the settings (like layer thickness, normal exposure time, bottom exposure time and bottom layers) when i open the r_e_r_f.pws in the photon slicer. is this correct or do i anything wrong?

i have printed this testfile, but cant see realy a differnce between the 8 pieces. in my opinion they are all ok ? ?

Neil Hake
2020-03-24 23:41:21

Uli Sazma they shouldn't all look the same, sure you sliced it right, called it correct file name etc, some should be under exposed, if you sure you done it right, lower the cure time on the first square.

So i had resin leak and it went through the cracks, i have removed the lcd screen but this bottom screen looks like it may be broke or just has cured resin on it, it also seems like there is a secondary this screen that i could peel off im not sure if it was supposed to be part of the lcd or what

The same thing happened to me. I was told I should have bought the replacement as one part. I had tried to scrape it off but scratched the plate underneath. I ended up having a replacement part cut to size. Good luck

What do you guys think? Dead pixels, or resin under the screen. I whipped Down the top of the lcd screen just to be sure it wasn’t anything sticking to the top of it.

I completed my first resin print! Honestly I'm surprised the machine worked as well as it did I bought it as faulty but minimal work got it running. :D I'm looking to get some water washable resin for the time being can anyone recommend a good brand please?

So this is supposed to be Eryone Clear ? ....cured for 4 mins in wash and cure. 8cm high and not hollow.

Is it ...the curing...because it's not hollow (although the towers are), the resin, or can I post process somehow ?‍♂️

Ashley Cobb
2020-03-22 18:46:52

The red background doesn’t help, but I assume it’s yellowed? Normally a sign of over-curing or over-post-curing. What did you wash it with? I got much clearer clear prints with Monocure ResinAway than IPA wash.

Lee Rogers
2020-03-22 18:48:42

Ashley Cobb yeah its yellowed quite a lot. Washed in IPA. I was thinking maybe 4 minutes was too long but the base is solid so thought it may need the extra time. I'm assuming no miracle varnish will bring this back?!

Ashley Cobb
2020-03-22 18:51:20

Lee Rogers anything you do to it short of painting it will only make it worse... sorry ?

Lee Rogers
2020-03-22 18:51:49

Ashley Cobb no worries, thanks, all a learning curve!

Ashley Cobb
2020-03-22 18:53:01

I’ve been through a 5L bottle of clear resin so yeah, many trays of resin dumped out... ha

Ed Horn
2020-03-24 03:25:43

Put it in hydrogen peroxide then set it in your uv curing box or whatever. Doing take out the yellow. Make sure model is completely covers in the liquid

Ashley Cobb
2020-03-24 03:27:40

Ed Horn really? That’s awesome, will have to try it.

Do you know what concentration of h2o2?

Stefan Giudici
2020-03-24 03:34:40

It's just about the resin. Cheaper components, especially photoinitiators yellow, better quality resins are designed not to

Lee Rogers
2020-03-24 03:39:38

Ed Horn ok, will give it a try, cheers ?

Lee Rogers
2020-03-24 03:40:35

Stefan Giudici is this a cheap resin though? Very well reviewed in amazon and no difference in cost to others?

Stefan Giudici
2020-03-24 03:43:19

Lee Rogers I don't mean cheap so much in the cost you'll pay, as they'll charge whatever people will pay, but cheaply made, the trade off is better cure times with these. Monocure clear for instance is pretty long cure time for a clear resin, but it doesn't yellow at all. But yeah this is just a property of the chemicals they opted to use.

Lee Rogers
2020-03-24 03:44:32

Stefan Giudici I'm happy to spend a bit initially to find the better resins. Monocure is one I haven't tried, so I'll take a look, thank you ?

Ashley Cobb
2020-03-24 03:45:13

Stefan Giudici monocure will yellow if over-cured.

Lee Rogers
2020-03-24 03:46:22

Ed Horn just checked...theres lots of percentage strength....any In particular?

Ed Horn
2020-03-24 04:39:28

Lee Rogers I just use what I get at the grocery store. Use it all the time to restore yellowed plastic parts. I can't guarantee it works with all resins though.

Ed Horn
2020-03-24 04:43:46

I use anycubic clear

Ed Horn
2020-03-24 07:30:19

3% works for most things But it will likely vary depending on the resin brand. Good luck.
