Anycubic Photon Printer Owners 造訪社團 » Lite

<> One Week as Noob <>
Hello Makers !
I received my photon last saturday and i'm very satisfied with this Printer.
.
As first, I need to check Chitubox and find a good setting for my Anycubic Skin Resin.
> 0.05 / 8 layers / 10s Expo / 65s Base / 1 Extinction
> 0.035 / 10 layers / 14s Expo / 80s Base / 1 Extinction
.
I did the leveling only few time and it was quite easy.
.
My process is the following :
> Chitubox + Object : If a big one > Heavy Support / If reasonable object > Middle Support.
I enforced the support to be stronger and hollow the part all the time.
> After print > Cleaning with IPA and Denaturated Alcohol (cheaper and working fine). I bought a cheap ultrasonic cleaner and put the part for 6 to 12 minutes in a proper IPA bath.
> Cut Support before cure the object... more easier.
> Dry the print with Aerograph !
> Cured by Sun in metallic little box.
.
So, i did not consumme a litter of resin for the moment but it should be done in few hours lol.
A bad experience was cleaning supports of a cured object and a spot directly comes to my eye... A very bad moment... But after washing it with special water, the little resin spot went out without damage.
So, I will never never never... remove support without Glasses. Please take care.
.
Additionnal cost :
- Ultrasonic Cleaner 30€
- Nails UV system 20€
- Denatured Alcool 2€ / Liter
- Protection glasses 10€
- Patreon addicted... 10€ x2
.
A good surprise was the ring stuff with resin. They look really cool and i need to learn how to paint them and how to apply a paint who can be on skin contact an entire day.
.
I would say than Printing Resin is not the same than FDM systems but if HELL is on Earth, he should be incarned in a Support !!
Supports are a pain in FDM World and Supports are a pain for Resin lol... I should improve this :)
So, i'm still a noob... I think my next step in FEP replacement but for the moment... Need to find Clear resin to try.
.
Have Fun :)

Question for the group...TLDR: WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ON OTHER BRANDS VS STICKING WITH ANYCUBIC?

Long Version: Do you guys stick with the Anycubic resin or have you found better 3rd party brands? I have used about 3 Liters of Anycubic resin in various colors and had great luck. I have to admit I am a little reluctant to change brands when I haven't had any issues yet. My only real complaint is that the Anycubic stuff does stink but oh well.

So I've been using different slicers and I struggle hard with support placement. And it's not about where to supports its that I literally can't place them.

I see an island, E. G. The fist of a miniature floating around. After auto supports I try to add thin supports to the fingertips but when I click nothing happens. I've been using the anycubic slicer and chitubox - both gave me the problem. I'll update with a photo asap after restarting my pc.

Okay I notice on every bigger print I do I always have a line roughly 45mm up the z but only on the front and left and right side, not the back. It sands flush super easy but just odd not all the way around and only at ~45mm Z. I don't think it's z wobble as everything above and below is perfect. Thoughts? Maybe dirt or flaw on the z rail/lead screw in one spot? Can provide pictures if needed but it's literally just a single line that sticks out

Ok so I literally have no sense of smell at all..so I'm good but, the wife and kids can. What is the least odor producing resin? Color doesn't matter to me reallly.

Greetings from Torres Vedras, Portugal! I've been following the group for some time and this is my first post to show my first print. Everything by the book and it went well in my opinion.

Photon S received yesterday after waiting more than a month for it. All I can say is that I was *very* patient, although several times I almost cancelled my order... Anyway, it arrived and I have a lot to learn from you.

Just a question for now: I received 2.5 liters of Anycubic white, and I would like to color some of it to grey. Any advice on a liquid dye for the purpose?

Thanks!

Carlos

I am still on a mission to find relatively affordable ways to clean parts that minimize the reliance on IPA. IPA in a heated ultrasonic bath is a no-go for me. I found moderate success with Yellow Magic 7, and also with home grown combinations of 20% IPA and industrial detergents. Those are pretty good, but not as good as straight up IPA. I think I can do better.

I am nominally a chemist by training so I used my ACS credential to do a literature search yesterday and learned a bunch. Commercial SLA outfits seem to use and recommend di(propylene glycol) methyl ether (AKA DPM, AKA glycol ether, AKA DOWANOL-DPM (TM)). That comes in at around $50/gal. Along those lines I found commercial solutions used in the UV ink and silk screening industries that contain variations on that, such as the tri(propylene glycol) methyl ether, or di(propylene glycol) butyl ether. Those solutions run in the $60/gal range. That industry also uses esterified soy fatty acids (essentially bio-diesel) as a solvent. If those work then in principle they could be economical and safe to use, but I don't think they are water soluble which could be a caveat.

As confirmation of what I learned, I later discovered that the highly-praised but $160/gal (in the US) ResinAway product contains propylene glycol ($30/gal) as the top ingredient, and the glycol ether as a secondary ingredient (along with long-chain alcohols - which I believe are the main ingredients in Yellow Magic 7). So I may be on the right path. I have some of these chemicals on the way, for additional tests.

A question out to the existing owners, is it possible to get the detail captured in the pictures with a Photon?

The small unpainted Xeno is 22mm tall, the larger silver headless one is 60mm tall detail capture is super important and many projects I've seen here are larger than these

I'm aiming to make duplicates of these to fill out an army and since they can't be bought anymore I'm trying to find a printer that can. I've had literal suggestions between the Photon and the Form 2 which are at the grand opposite of each other in terms of price.

So this is a first... like literally searched the group and didnt see any models this bad With layer skipping or “z-hopping”.. woke up to this today. Measures I’ve taken: Emptied and cleaned the vat and screen no cracks FEP seemed good. Releveled the bed and lubed the Z-rod, resliced the file (using chitubox again) changing orientation and positions. Possible problems I did notice the bed sticks to the FEP sheet (a little more then it did new) and Ive had a similar problem it was using multiple shape and size objects on the bed so i think it could relate? Either way its almost done after my attempts to correct if not ill try the tension of the FEP to see if its loose and try to reslice with all of the same model on the bed with a new USB to see if that is a conflict. If not tho i would like some input from some of you OG’s who may have seen this. Thanks!

Hello!
I have been using my Anycubic Photon for around 2 weeks and been buying the same brand of resin.

I have had luck buying it on ebay for around 38-44 dlls a liter depending on the color but I was wondering if there is other resin brand cheaper and compatible with this printer.

Also if there is a way to mix colors or get different ones.
