hello all . so I finally joined the resin printer community . got a photon with the photon resin. any pointers or tips. especially for slicing my own stuff as I have not used the software before. I know I dont want stuff to be solid all the time so I will need to make holes and what not. thanks all

Read posts in this group; go back weeks and months if you have to. All the questions you are going to have will be there. But first read the Photonsters FAQ.

Thank you ?

So it’s looking like it’s working this time, quickly paused at roughly the same time as yesterday and there looks like a print on the build plate. Certainly an improvement from yesterday. Relevelled the plate, updated the firmware and set the bottom exposure to 80s so thanks to everyone for your tips yesterday, I know it hasn’t finished yet so touchwood. The irony would be pausing and restarting the print messes it up.

Getting ready to replace the screen in my printer for the first time, any tips or tricks before going into this?
Sean McAnulty 2020-03-22 16:10:17
it isn't too difficult, just an unfun number of screws
Phez Darryn Stanmore 2020-03-22 16:24:16
Watch the tutorial a few times and you'll be fine, and I agree with Sean , there is way too many screws!
Robert Mun 2020-03-22 16:29:20
4 screws is too many?
Sean Isle 2020-03-22 16:49:07
It's a very easy task, just take your time. Make sure you mark up which screws come from where. be gentle with the cables, they should come out easily. And yeah, youtube is your friend.

Any tips how to print with anycubic clear resin? IT keeps me annoyed all the time. Im using resin settings from googledocs and every single print is failed. Mosty some parts are missing even on unsupported arras that should be printer well. So far i was printing with all other resins from anycubic with really good results but due quarantine ive stayes at home with 2liters od clear one and its getting me mad. Any tips and tricka guys? Files are ok, bed is a well leveleded one LCD was replaced on January... Anycubic photon 0.025 layer
Grant Brummer 2020-03-22 05:07:58
Honestly I'm just using it with default settings and they've come out great for me
Lee Rogers 2020-03-22 05:14:41
It's weird as I couldnt get anything out of anycubic black, but everything else works fine. 9 hours into a print using eryone clear, on 60, 8, 1 sec and 3 bottom layers and all looks good.

Just finished painting this. I'm a complete novice when it comes to painting so any tips/advice/constructive criticism is definitely most welcome
Marc-Andre Levesque 2020-03-22 00:05:47
Not bad at all for someone who's supposed to be a novice. Next step is to learn how to use wash, search youtube there is full of tutorials that will explain it way better than me.
Keith Olsen 2020-03-22 00:07:58
Your skin tone looks amazing ...I'd do something more with the eyes and possibly and possible some dry brush to the pants to pull out the creases
Jenny Searcy 2020-03-22 00:09:12
Did you find him on Thingiverse?
Dave Postill 2020-03-22 00:14:19
Hi Jenny Searcy , the model is by Duncan "shadow" louca, his models are availabe on www.duncanshadow.com and his older models where this one is from is https://gumroad.com/duncanlouca
Dave Postill 2020-03-22 00:15:26
complete novice my friend haha, ill look into washes, i did try but it kinda made a bit of a mess, maybe i didnt thin the paint enough
Dave Postill 2020-03-22 00:16:46
Thanks. i primed it with upol grey primer, it gave it a sort of rough bumpy effect which i wasnt happy with at first, but now i think it adds to it, ill check out the dry brush technique and yes the eyes certainly need more work for sure
Marc-Andre Levesque 2020-03-22 00:17:35
It needs to be water like and the trick is not to try to do all the model at the same time and let it dry before contrinuing, if you don't do that well, you make a mess :)
Dave Postill 2020-03-22 00:17:35
heres his fb page also. https://www.facebook.com/shadowminiatures/

Dave Postill thank you for the info. Good job by the way.

YouTube is good, but also follow pages like Figure Painter Magazine and join groups like @ThePaintingLadder. There you’ll get expert advice.
Thomas Holm 2020-03-22 01:17:45
That looks great. I would maybe, just maybe, look at increasing the contrasts a bit. But great work already now.

I am about to buy my first clear resin for making some chess pieces. If I recall correctly I thought I saw people talking about how to make clear resin as clear as possible. Any specific tips? Any resin that people suggest?
Simon Wilson 2020-03-21 21:57:30
Somebody said cure them underwater, I'd like to know if this really works. UV Protective lacquer apparently exists too, which prevents yellowing, but I've no idea what it is or where to get it!
Ben Knipper 2020-03-21 22:54:36
From my experience the best parts you can get are made with two different resins. The first is applylabs MSLA clear , 10 second post cure (underwater if you wish) after it is cleaned in IPA, but I use Denatured Alcohol from Home Depot. The ither resin is polyjuice water washable, but its gotten expensive and hard to find. Then usually automotive 2 part urethane clear coats have UV protective qualities that will protect your print after the build lines are sanded out. The clear makes the matted, frosted look go yo a much better optically clear look.
Greg Chapman 2020-03-22 07:36:53
I have glass clear prints that are over a year old sitting in direct sunlight, I used Monocure rapid clear, make sure your print settings dont over expose it or it will yellow. Clean with ipa or metho or whatever your cleaner of choice is. I cure in th e Aussie sun, 15 to 20 mins max should cure it (scratch a bit with your nail, should leave a mark if it is cured) then 2 coats of semi gloss tamiya clear or the gloss clear and barring any unforeseen issues it'll be clear. If it goes yellow in the sun you've left it out too long, if it does after the clear coat you missed a spot with the gloss
Scott Pavlich 2020-03-22 07:38:52
Monocure clear...watch your exposure carefully...little to no post-cure, and coat with a good quality uv-blocking clear coat
Stefan Giudici 2020-03-23 04:10:18
It's more about the resin than anything, most will yellow because of the cheap chemicals they use, better resins stay clear

I got some model files the other day and they are huge. when I import into Meshmixer it crawls like molasses in freezing weather. Chitubox wont load it and Prusa slicer is really slow. Nettfabb wont allow it to upload because of the file size. I just want to hollow and add drain holes but Meshmixer does not like it and that's the only way I know how to reduce it.
Anyone have alternate suggestions? I know its not my computer, I opened multiple other files and no issues.
Jim Nelson 2020-03-21 08:59:35
Following, because I have a file with similar issues.
Scott Pavlich 2020-03-21 09:01:18
How large is the file?
Quinn Mehling 2020-03-21 09:03:28
Scott Pavlich one of the files 427.5mb
Quinn Mehling 2020-03-21 09:05:27
All the files in this model are acting like this. Thought maybe something was wrong and tried sending to nettfabb. It won’t accept it because it’s over the 400mb.
Quinn Mehling 2020-03-21 09:30:41
I finally got Meshmixer to crawl through and reduce the file size. 427.5MB > 225.2MB Hoping it doesn't affect the print resolution, guess I'll have to reduce all the files so it looks the same just in case.
Scott Pavlich 2020-03-21 09:46:06
Quinn Mehling While you’re computer might be fine, many times the weak link is with the graphics card. I’ve had to update all my cad computers over the years to handle ever increasing cad files. Any 3D model is math- intensive so that, RAM, and a fast processor make life a lot easier on large files
Quinn Mehling 2020-03-21 09:50:58
thought about that too, currently running 2, ATI HD5770 Mac editions probably wouldn't hurt to up them. haven't had too many issues running Zbrushcore or Maya.
Tyron Craft 2020-03-21 11:58:48
Did you solve the problem by reducing the file size? Having the same issue atm
Quinn Mehling 2020-03-21 19:59:33
Tyron Craft I believe so, I had to reduce it quite a bit. The render looks ok but I’m going to print it today on the photon and see how the quality is.

I recently printed my first model that was split into multiple pieces. Unfortunately some of them don't fit together. The aligning pins are too big, some of the larger portions are rounded. I'm thinking my exposure settings might be off. Thoughts as to whether this might be an under or over exposure?
I'm using Elegoo grey at 8s
Ray Sears 2020-03-20 21:55:38
Every printer is a little different and exposure with resolution doesn't say much. If you are at 0.5 that seems reasonable but it would be high for 0.2.
Tom Chandler 2020-03-20 22:02:28
Im at .03 so maybe I’ll back it down to 6s
原文網址 Ben Miller 2020-03-19 23:08:34
Like most people I am constantly surprised with the level of detail this printer can pump out.
I seem to be running into a problem with printing multiple items at a time. Anytime I fill the plate with several minis, only one will come out while just the supports and a sliver of flat cured resin prints out for the others.
