Hi everyone. I got my Photon today and did my first print. I am happy with the unit so far, but the slicing software it comes with leaves a lot to be desired. I am curious, what do you all use to slice your prints? I use Cura for my filament printing, but it doesn't look like Cura works for the Photon.

Do any of you guys know if there's a min and max ambient temp to run the anycubic photon at? I think the Form 2 has its own heating system, for the resin tank, but I can't find anything in regards to this one. I have to imagine resin viscosity is crucial to print accuracy.

I'm totally new to DLP and SLA printing, so thanks in advance!

"Nest a Cube"
(quick calibration test model)

Quick test for dimensional accuracy tweaking.
Use this to dial in resin tolerances for parts that are meant to fit together, pegs, etc.
Quick 1 1/2 hour print, 0.05 layers, standard settings for anycubic green.
Other resins or layer heights, times will vary.
Saves on resin too!

Print cubes as is. Slice and print.
Sleeve cube is 10 x 10 x 10mm.
Walls are 1mm.
Solid nesting cube is 7.8 x 7.8 x 8.9mm.

Tweak exposure settings until the solid cube can slide into the sleeve cube snugly. Sleeve cube has a hole on top so you can push solid cube back out.

Bonus! Check for Z Wobble and other anomalies. Fast print to verify accuracy. Print both together!

Don't kill me for this, nor poor resin over me and cover me with feathers ? , but I don’t own a photon nor any other 3d printer. I own a CNC.
Reading all the stuff here, is getting me confused should I buy one or not. Some posts let me think yeah do it, others tell me don't touch.

It’s all about what you get for the buck no? Can I go wrong with it?
I just need to print tiny parts for my hobby, accuracy is important but there is a workaround by making adjustments in the slicer.

Here is an example of a part that I want to print. The part was printed for me in a print shop on a form2 in but 4k for a printer no I can't be asked to pay that amount. The ruler is in mm btw.

Is the photon capable of printing this stuff? Yesterday I discovered the Phrozen Shuffle looks more stable on the Z, is that one any good?

Yeah you can clearly tell I’m in the woods here, can someone give me advice here. It will be my own decision so no problem if it does not work out for me, just point me in the right direction please.

Hi! Are you guys all using this printer for figures? Anybody using it for engineering parts? Thats what I bought the printer for. Watertight, highly dimensionally accurate, and sometimes optically clear parts with high quality surface is what I am looking for. In addition to my FDM machines off course..., as an synergistic addon so to speak. Let´s see what it can do. Anybody else?

Hi there. Following this great forum. I will be using the photon to make jewelry. How accurate are the measurements produced by the machine e.g. for the seats of stones?

Thanks for the add. I'm a 3D designer and have been selling on Shapeways for the past 3, 3 1/2, years. I'm sure a lot of you know about the mess that's been going on there for a while now. So now I'm looking into purchasing a printer to make and sell some of my more popular models myself to avoid SWs' hassles. I'm looking at either the Photon, the upcoming Prusa SL1 (the Prusa kit is basically the most I can spend on a printer and I'd get the cleaning station no matter which way I go), or maybe the "Bean" printer. I'm not sure which, though, or if I should even get into it in the first place.

I'm a college student and don't have too too much time except on the weekends. From my understanding, a DLP/SLA printer would require quite a bit more time and work than just a regular FDM printer would. I'm also unsure about how well a desktop DLP printer would lend itself to small scale, but relatively frequent, production of multiple models at once. I know that no matter what, these printers wouldn't be able to really match the quality of Shapeways' MJM printers but if Shapeways goes any further downhill after Jan 1, this might be my best option.

Also, a question about the Photon and resins. What is the highest resolution layer height that the Photon can reasonably print at? Shapeways offers detail plastics with a layer height of 16 and 25 microns. Can the Photon match the smaller height with reasonable accuracy? Also, I know that the resins tend to be somewhat toxic with a strong odor. Are there any high detail resins out there that are either non-toxic or won't emit such strong odors and vapors such that I wouldn't need a ventilation system? Space is somewhat tight for me so the less room and peripherals needed, the better.

Thanks.
