What are the best Chitubox settings to 3d print a Funko as smooth as i can? I'm using the basic Anycubic White. It says UV Wavelength 405nm

First, the model needs to be high quality. Without that, settings won't matter.

For print settings, we need to know what resin you are using.

Bruno Shepard

Bruno Shepard start here and tweak as you learn. This says Anycubic White should be around 15 seconds exposure time per layer at 0,05mm layer height.

Noone can tell you the best settings, because they depend on so many factors. Do an RERF test and you'll get to what works best for your current conditions.

Hi everyone. In the link I leave you the files of this face protector, which will be useful for those who have small platform resin printers and who still cannot print their protectors. please after printing, they must be washed well to remove the resin residues, especially on the threads since otherwise they will not be able to assemble it. Glenn Mcfadden
2020-03-29 23:50:52

mhm i have to question like SLA is really usefully for air tight stuff so its a bit waistfull to use the resin for parts that would be better printed on an FDM machien

Gary Slovinsky
2020-03-29 23:55:05

Glenn Mcfadden I have to agree. FDM is the only way to go for printing out these safety mask thingys. PLA is way less brittle and generally easier to print.

Gary Slovinsky
2020-03-29 23:56:21

Alex Weitzman it’s just a shield so yes, you would require a surgical/N95 mask in addition.

Hi everyone thanks for accepting me.
I do have a question I have a unique toys ordin and the ankle rocker broke.

So I've made a new one using a 3d design program. However when i go to print the new rocker it comes out smaller than the original part.

How do i correct this and put the print into proper scale?

I am using a anycubic photon resin 3d printer. The units change from inches to millimeters in the 3d print program.

So, a quick followup on my earlier post of my rendition of the Fallout Nuka Cola machine. Here are a few happy snaps of the finished vignette.

A fun little project. Only the drink machine, bottles and bottle caps were 3D printed on my Photon. The base is scratch built from styrene stock, two-part epoxy putty and sand and gravel. The organ pipe cactus is from a Pegasus Models injection molded set.

Resin out preforms FDM in all categories except price.

Jeffrey Opel
2020-03-27 08:56:15

Certain items can be printed faster by FDM machines if layer thickness is not critical.

Micah Vestal
2020-03-27 09:20:44

Both technologies have strengths and weaknesses. I use both all the time. FDM is generally much better for bigger stuff than resin. Case in point, you can use FDM to print something as big as a car. I can't imagine that being realistic with resin, even if resin was free and you could get it in 50 gallon drums, lol

Jordan Baldrige
2020-03-27 10:51:43

Jeffrey Opel LIKE LAST TIME.... this is a false statement. It is mechanically impossible.
Have you ever been a used car salesmen?

Jordan Baldrige
2020-03-27 10:53:36

Micah Vestal like I said it’s not cheaper. But it’s 10x faster, stronger and detail isn’t even comparable.

They make huge resin printers. I saw one make a boat haul. That said the machine was $20M.

Not cheaper, but better.

Jordan Baldrige
2020-03-27 11:27:16

Jeffrey Opel last time sure. This time no. I’m old too, so that doesn’t count, plus it was a joke. The other thing was a question.

Jordan Baldrige

Jeffrey Opel with what? 1 old man calling another old man old?
Is that what your bent up about?

Micah Vestal
2020-03-27 12:02:44

Jordan Baldrige I have seen a BAAM in person. I have never heard of a resin printer that big. It doesn't seem worthwhile to make a resin printer that big. My point is that it's not better at that scale, regardless of price. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should, lol.

Vincent Balmont
2020-03-27 13:56:21

Jeffrey Opel resin prints way faster, if your printing minis u can print 10 vs 1 on fdm, if you are printing buildings, resin is still faster as it does the whole layer at the same time. I started with resin and just got an fdm for terrain stuff, resin is so much better

Niall Forrester
2020-03-27 14:47:12

Personal use, or selling? If the latter, you might want to be a bit more cautious, 'just in case'.

John Vickers
2020-03-27 16:08:42

Ask oneself is it safe to put in your mouth like say Dental applications or surgical apperatus & you may find the answer.

Gary Noble
2020-03-27 19:49:27

One small advantage of FDM over standard resin I've observed is distortion - FDM doesn't warp as readily as resin does while curing so if you need a high degree of accuracy of overall shape FDM may be best.

Saying that I expect there are resins out there that are designed to overcome this issue.

Still, not going back to FDM - resin is amazing.

Stefan Giudici
2020-03-27 20:51:54

Huge disagree and I've used both for many many years and worked in the sla field

Logan Lees
2020-03-27 22:59:05

There are plenty of resins you could use if you're really concerned about it. This is just an example, but pro black 10 resin from figure 4 is Biocompatible capable per ISO10993-5 and ISO10993-10, which means this:

ISO 10993-10:2013 Biological evaluat ion of medical devices Part 10: Tests for irritation and skin sensitization

ISO 10993-5:2009 Biological evaluation of medical devices Part 5: Tests for in vitro cytotoxicity.

You wouldn't really need to go to these lengths though as people have said prior to this comment, fully cured resin should not irritate the skin. But this kind of resin would be safe if you're one of those people who bites things haha.

Chris Svo it does after prolonged exposure. I printed a hollow 16mm ear tunnel last year, after three days it caused blistering and swelling inside my ear and I had to cut the earring out.

Hey guys, this is still very much a work in progress, but I need some advice! I'm making a dragon doll and I've sculpted some elastic ball joints for its legs. There is also a top part to this leg which is not pictured. Anyway, I was wondering if you think using the 3D print on the actual doll would be strong and durable enough to do? I kind of dread the thought of moulding and casting these (there are holes running through the inside of the top and bottom part of the leg to allow for the elastic).

My question: what resin is strong enough to be able to use this as is without moulding and casting? And any advice on painting/pigmenting the resins?

EDIT: I'm using a Photon!

Thanks! Hope everyone is safe and well!:)

One thing folks have done with similar dolls in brittle material is to not make the bar from (in this case) 3d printed resin but instead leave or drill a hole and insert a very strong wire- basically a small metal bar epoxied into place so you can stri ng quite tightly for good posing, but without any worry you're going to break the bar.

I'd print from a material as close to the finished colour as you can and then paint with model paints or excellent quality acrylic and use a sealant, avoiding painting the ball joints if you can (as it will tend to chip and flake with wear). Check out some of the awesome full repaints of Monster High dolls on Youtube for inspiration. I highly recommend this channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCitKV0ebZVbtU2nIPihDGMQ

Okay thank you! I will have a look:)

Oh fantastic! Thank you so much for all this!

Verity Filipow
2020-03-26 19:29:54

Joseph Kason
2020-03-26 19:31:33

You may have to experiment a bit with ratios...usually not a straight 50:50 mix. And exposure times will be different, too. Run your exposure test on any mix you settle on before printing.

Verity Filipow
2020-03-26 19:31:59

Awesome, thanks for the tip:)

Kat Schulz-Booth
2020-03-26 20:00:05

What sort of range of movement do you want from your BJD? If you only want limited posing, light stringing and a little experimenting with exposure times would be worth the time.

Verity Filipow
2020-03-26 20:04:07

Moderate to limited posing. It's for a client, and I've stressed that these things are fragile and mainly for display only!

Kat Schulz-Booth
2020-03-26 20:05:59

Then I would play with the wall thickness and exposure times. Which resin do you normally use?

Jennifer Tallman
2020-03-26 20:13:47

I'm a fan of ApplyLabWork mSLA grey resin. It has twice the tensile strength than Anycubic and equivalent resins.

Verity Filipow
2020-03-26 20:46:54

Currently still getting through the anycubic green I have but willing to switch!

Neal Conway
2020-03-26 21:41:35

Richard Tyler Jr
2020-03-27 08:35:54

A lot of people have been printing the bjd dragon from myminifactory. They hold up pretty good from what I've been told. Gonna try printing my own when the resin gets here.

Kat Schulz-Booth
2020-03-27 09:39:35

Give the green a go...will the BJD be painted? If so, just go with the resin you're use to, if it holds up strength-wise.

Verity Filipow
2020-03-27 18:10:31

Which resin were you using?

Neal Conway
2020-03-27 18:24:53

Not that I've used but people on the Internet seem to recommend Siraya Blu as being one of the better ones.

Siraya claims to have printed a hook with it and hung a 20kg off it, summat you definitely couldn't do with the Anycubic Basic . . .
