Bruno Shepard start here and tweak as you learn. This says Anycubic White should be around 15 seconds exposure time per layer at 0,05mm layer height.

Noone can tell you the best settings, because they depend on so many factors. Do an RERF test and you'll get to what works best for your current conditions.

Is this any good by itself or does it need to be used with a surgical mask underneath?

mhm i have to question like SLA is really usefully for air tight stuff so its a bit waistfull to use the resin for parts that would be better printed on an FDM machien

Glenn Mcfadden I have to agree. FDM is the only way to go for printing out these safety mask thingys. PLA is way less brittle and generally easier to print.

Alex Weitzman it’s just a shield so yes, you would require a surgical/N95 mask in addition.

Unless you are a medical professional their is little to no need for a face shield.

Did you print him at full scale? I loved mine. Took it to show at a trade show and ended up selling it right out the gate. Guy absolutely had to have it. One of my favorite AG prints.

Vinícius Dos Reis Costa I was able. To just barely do the wings on my Photon. The tip was still submerged when it was done.

I used the photon s the wings were a tight fit.

Christopher Finlinson searching in the net I found out that mars Is actually 5mm bigger, can you share the configuration that you used?

Well I just rotated it around in the slicer until it fit. Looked like this when I finisdhed.

I just finished pringing mine with out wings because the wings where cutting it real close to the top of the print limit. I did not want a fail so I did not risk it.

Dang the way that looks like it fits together is sharp.

Just make a mold and cast it in resin if you want to produce more and are worried about durability.

From what I understand cured resin is mostly safe to handle in non food related activities.

Fully cured resin should not irritate skin.

Are you putting them on the lathe and putting a finish on them? That would put a barrier between the skin. A lot of exotic African & South American woods that I've made pens from irritate skin as well.

No lathe. The pen bodies would be purely 3D printed. Thanks for the note though

Resin out preforms FDM in all categories except price.

Certain items can be printed faster by FDM machines if layer thickness is not critical.

Both technologies have strengths and weaknesses. I use both all the time. FDM is generally much better for bigger stuff than resin. Case in point, you can use FDM to print something as big as a car. I can't imagine that being realistic with resin, even if resin was free and you could get it in 50 gallon drums, lol

They make huge resin printers. I saw one make a boat haul. That said the machine was $20M.

Jordan Baldrige I have seen a BAAM in person. I have never heard of a resin printer that big. It doesn't seem worthwhile to make a resin printer that big. My point is that it's not better at that scale, regardless of price. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should, lol.

Jeffrey Opel resin prints way faster, if your printing minis u can print 10 vs 1 on fdm, if you are printing buildings, resin is still faster as it does the whole layer at the same time. I started with resin and just got an fdm for terrain stuff, resin is so much better

Personal use, or selling? If the latter, you might want to be a bit more cautious, 'just in case'.

Ask oneself is it safe to put in your mouth like say Dental applications or surgical apperatus & you may find the answer.

One small advantage of FDM over standard resin I've observed is distortion - FDM doesn't warp as readily as resin does while curing so if you need a high degree of accuracy of overall shape FDM may be best.

Saying that I expect there are resins out there that are designed to overcome this issue.

Still, not going back to FDM - resin is amazing.

There are plenty of resins you could use if you're really concerned about it. This is just an example, but pro black 10 resin from figure 4 is Biocompatible capable per ISO10993-5 and ISO10993-10, which means this:

ISO 10993-5:2009 Biological evaluation of medical devices Part 5: Tests for in vitro cytotoxicity.

You wouldn't really need to go to these lengths though as people have said prior to this comment, fully cured resin should not irritate the skin. But this kind of resin would be safe if you're one of those people who bites things haha.

I've been wearing a printed resin ring as my wedding ring for the past 4 months. No issues.

Chris Svo it does after prolonged exposure. I printed a hollow 16mm ear tunnel last year, after three days it caused blistering and swelling inside my ear and I had to cut the earring out.

I also made a fidget ring for someone who experienced similar on their finger after a few days.
You won't have any nasty reaction to chemicals found in PETG/PLA/TPU from FDM, but you likely will with resin.

Varnish/seal it. I do that with my stuff.

Anycubic grey resin, printed on a Photon. Cheaper than gold, and if I want a different design, no problem! The first one I made broke during our honeymoon. This ones been solid for 4 months now

Verity Filipow I have only used elegoo ABS-like grey, I’m very pleased with that one

One thing folks have done with similar dolls in brittle material is to not make the bar from (in this case) 3d printed resin but instead leave or drill a hole and insert a very strong wire- basically a small metal bar epoxied into place so you can stri ng quite tightly for good posing, but without any worry you're going to break the bar.

I'd print from a material as close to the finished colour as you can and then paint with model paints or excellent quality acrylic and use a sealant, avoiding painting the ball joints if you can (as it will tend to chip and flake with wear). A mix of resins might be in order, here. Siraya Tenacious mixed with an ABS-like resin should do the trick.

You may have to experiment a bit with ratios...usually not a straight 50:50 mix. And exposure times will be different, too. Run your exposure test on any mix you settle on before printing.

What sort of range of movement do you want from your BJD? If you only want limited posing, light stringing and a little experimenting with exposure times would be worth the time.

Moderate to limited posing. It's for a client, and I've stressed that these things are fragile and mainly for display only!

I'm a fan of ApplyLabWork mSLA grey resin. It has twice the tensile strength than Anycubic and equivalent resins.

Currently still getting through the anycubic green I have but willing to switch!

As stated above: Anycubic Resin is not good for tensile use.

A lot of people have been printing the bjd dragon from myminifactory. They hold up pretty good from what I've been told. Gonna try printing my own when the resin gets here.

Give the green a go...will the BJD be painted? If so, just go with the resin you're use to, if it holds up strength-wise.

Not that I've used but people on the Internet seem to recommend Siraya Blu as being one of the better ones.

Siraya claims to have printed a hook with it and hung a 20kg off it, summat you definitely couldn't do with the Anycubic Basic . . .

t's fairly expensive, though, at $50.00+ IF you can find it.
